That would be great - this project is a bit overwhelming. This car was toast actually. Now I know why the guy sold it for only 6K. I just take it one small goal at a time though so... Every single part is frozen in place, clogged up or broken. Sticking with it though 🥴

@LakesideAutobody8 ай бұрын
Do you have any AIRGAS places around? A lot of auto parts places carry gas too - they just exchange your tank with you. Gas MIGs are cheap now. That bestarc gas MIG welder that I reviewed is one of the cheapest but works just fine for body work.

This is the stuff i can do ,and then hand it off for the bodywork and paint 😂 As an upstate new yorker ,ill never attempt to save another rust car again. New floorpans are nice ,but only if there was metal to attach them to. Bust out the cad design and go to town making patterns. I will say im not afraid of a little rust hole anymore. (Cad =cardboard aided design)

Any tips on setting my MiG as to feed and amperage? I have a Hobart 180. Great stuff here!
@LakesideAutobody8 ай бұрын
If your welder came with a settings guide, you can start with that. If not, I see that the controls are the same as my Miller. I would start at 1 or 2 - probably 2 for sheet metal and around 35 for the wire speed. For thicker metals 3 or 4 and wire speed around 40-45. If you burn through on anything simply turn the voltage down a bit. Turn the wire speed way up to see how it affects your weld and way down to see that effect. That will give you an idea on if your wire speed is too high or low in any given situation. Ask any ?s if that don't help :)

That's about the exact time for me too. Very good little welder for sure - never had one issue. It actually welded an eye back on the main leaf spring on my 73 Charger (couldn't really afford a new one at the time). Drove on that spring for the rest of the time I owned it until 2016. Hard to believe it held :)

Question: Where's the best place to buy dog-leg patch panels for a ''97 Lincoln Continental?
@LakesideAutobody7 ай бұрын
Have you tried millsupply or raybucks? If not just type that into GOOGLE :)
@jesse.vr62 ай бұрын
So, even on something like a rocker panel, you don't have to use weld thru primer on the back side of the lap weld? Maybe that's what's making me take so long fixing my rockers.
@LakesideAutobody2 ай бұрын
Absolutely not - you do not need weld through. Weld through is really only for "pinch" type spot welders as it doesn't "add" metal. What's coating the wire that comes out of the MIG welder. The best way to prevent future rust is drainage and this - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bonEi3WvbKx2baM here's more proof - kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5XVfa2pr5eYgsk

@LakesideAutobody8 ай бұрын
I'm using a Miller Millermatic 90. It's a great 110v welder - no question - but there are some really good welders out there for a lot less $. ARCAPTAIN, YESWELDER, BESTARC, RILAND There is a review for these welders on this channel if you want to check them out. Ask ?s if you need to :)
@patrickreynolds8018 ай бұрын
Awesome advise. Thanks. What kind of primer is best to use on body panels repairs. I've watched alot of your patch and repair panel videos and see the process. Is there a dos and don't matching primer to filler and base coat to primer? Not sure if this makes sense. Like is there primers that don't chemically bond to filler and base coat to primer?
@LakesideAutobody8 ай бұрын
All primers work fine - don't listen to the noise out there. There's a ton of misinformation. Lacquer primer surfacer, Urethane primer surfacer (DTM), polyester primer surfacer all work excellent over body filler, sanded metal and sanded paint. You don't need epoxy primer although BC sticks to that too. Basecoat can be applied to all - lacquer, uethane & poly. You'll hear that you can't put BC over lacquer but that's not true - absolutely not true. Last, if you are ever in doubt simply hit it with a coat of sealer before your first coat of paint - problem solved. All sealers stick to primers and all paints stick to sealers. Always feel free to ask any ?s - even ones that you think you should know - those are most often the ones that are the hardest to find the correct answer to :) Check this vid out - may help - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2a1knSdl7OCm5I

Yes - you could do that - no problem - but I'm sort of on a time schedule - I try to have one good video each week. Each video I make has to make a point or have a good lesson in it. The point of this video is exactly what the title states. As stated when this resto was started - "This car is going to be driven year round - it's not going to be a trailer queen." Remember... "The enemy of progress is perfection." - not sure who said that - Jerry
