I'm not religious, but it is pretty hard to ignore all of the connections. Tae looked like Jesus on the cross. JK had thorns wrapped around his wrist. RM looked like Noah. Suga looked like a preacher. JHope is almost like a spirit. IDK. Also, they all have outfits from different time periods. So, it could fit into the whole Jin time traveling thing.

The only thing that could be tied to religion (sorta? more like to the movie) is Noah. As for the rest is way too contrived. I mean spiritual, essence, soul =/= religious. J-hope first appears when Jungkook closes his eyes, it almost feels like a bit of a suspended, dream-like sequence. Not to mention this kind of "death/holy" imagery we get between him and Suga: J-hope's got the black jacket, the dead tree trunks, the bird on Jungkook's collapsed body almost like a scavenger bird. Whereas Suga's in the temple/monastery, and the way his white shirt appears to "glow" makes him feel more ethereal in a way.

The raven (if it is) is symbol of death in certain folklore/mythology such as Norse where Odin is represented through ravens and death is tied in especially in battle (im not 100% if I got that right but it’s something along those lines) and in Irish folklore of a banshee who can appear as a raven and shows its self to families when a death is going to occur in the family. So it could be J-Hope is a grim reaper figure which is reinforced by the raven and also his clothing and could tie into the battle from the start?? Might be nothing but that’s my input haha

This MV truly seems like a trailer for a movie. I'm not sure if I like how Hope and Suga's parts seemed to be framed more like a traditional Kpop music video, because to me it feels a bit out of place when the rest of the scenes are more storytelling driven... However, I did love the inclusion of the dance break, even though I could have the same criticism about it... The reason why the dance break fitted well is because, in my opinion, that part of the choreography is so intense, so agressive and with big jumps/hicks reminiscent of martial arts, that it felt like a metaphor; a metaphor for the characters there being soldiers training for the next battle, as if the dancing was representing how they could have been practicing military formations or how to fight with swords or weapons.

"Something big is on the way." That gave me the chills! I agree with everything you said. A *lot* of people are saying that this album is their best yet, that they really put a lot into it, that they would have to work even harder to top this comeback... The fact that this MV is so epic and probably the most challenging project Lumpens has done *has to* mean something. I actually think they will all go to the military together after the Grammys or during the summer or spring next year. That would make total sense (especially because they promised countless of times in the album that they will continue on their journey, sing endlessly, fight the pain, to /bring it/. And they are leaving a big imprint before leaving for a little moment before coming back even stronger.)

If you look closer at the tracklist of MOTS7, you'll note there are a lot of solos and subunits. I suspect this is BigHit getting us used to a BTS that will not be a seven-member-group for some time. They'll go into the army, one by one (or two by two), and we will see all kinds of units, of 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 members, and a lot of solos. I think it very unlikely that they will go in all together. That would practically mean they would disappear for two years and lose all the momentum they've been building up recently. It would be a very bad decision for the company to deal with, and I doubt this would be the way PD Bang chooses. Economically unsound, and pure hell from the viewpoint of marketing management. And I don't think the US market would remember them when they return. It is very fickle. But of course I may be totally wrong. They'll all go together, return in two years' time, and nobody will have noticed their absence, while they then pick up the thread where they left it. Somehow, I find it difficult to visualize ... We'll see. ###

I agree. There’s on way they gonna enlist together. JK is still very young and it’d also be very harmful to their career. I think they will go separately according to their ages and focus on solo albums and stuff. JK will debut as solo for sure, Jimin maybe as well. Taehyung might release music casually and independently and focus more on photography and art while still communicating with armys etc. That way they will not be forgotten and while I’m sure most of the armys won’t abandon them, if all 7 was gone for 2 years I can see a lot of fans shifting their interest to other active groups and distancing themselves from BTS as a result.

Because: 1) Removes the bias: To a lot of people who scoff at K-pop and boy bands, the Kinetic MV is stripped down, making people more open to watching a performance videos. 2) Talent focused: The MV also shows just how talented and powerful BTS is without any extra things. A lot of Doubters or naysayer of BTS will have to admit that their are really good. No tricks up the sleeve except immense hard work and talent. 3) : After the MV, they followed up with Grand Central performance which again wowed not only ARMY but others. The performance just reconfirmed their greatness. 4) this MV is for army with all their theories and AU stories getting connected.

Whatever it is, the support we have for them now is rly crucial. And i hope it continues on forever.

I was surprised at first that you didn't mention any of the movies (Bird Box, Maze Runner, Lion King, Lord of the Flies etc.), but all of your comments towards the MV were really fascinating, especially about the 'what's next' comments. BTS does it again!

i'm rewatching this video again bc it's so well reviewed, but it occurs to me that big hit has been moving towards something like this for a while. less about making a simple music video, more about exploring different forms of art in relation to music. now that i'm looking back on all their endeavours beyond music (video games, animations, connect bts, dancers in black swan and the kinetic manifesto, etc) i find that so many of them are all different kinds of art. this type of cinematic approach to mv storytelling might well be along the same lines.

I was thinking of it in another way! The kinetic film, and appearances are all building up to this music video so i do get why they chose to release this later. My mind is absolutely blown away while watching it

I think this MV is closer to the message behind the song and the Kinetic Manifesto Film is focused in the performance aspect of the song, so I do understand why they released this one after the other.

I agree. I think they are preparing us for something. As for enlistment, I almost wish they'd all go at once and get it over with. The thought of this tour being cancelled because of the coronavirus makes me sick. This is likely the last tour with all of them until enlistment is over and it is at risk of being cancelled. Too much to think about. BTS is next level though.

Yeah PD the cinematic view is epic.. love it.. true for marketing the first mv more hyped this one more to understand whole & the theory behind it.. more we dig into it.. the more we got suck.. that #bts for us..

My theory is that both Jhope and Suga are trying to express something. For Jhopes case, the futuristic black jacket with the crow makes me think he's expressing death or pain. And for Suga in the church, he seems to express the opposite, life and faith. The other characters have more cinematic themes because they're themes that are visible? Like V expresses protection when he uncovers the girls eyes only after everything is okay, RM expresses hope with Noah's Ark, Jin expresses healing when he takes the bird and brings it back... etc.

I agree with you it was such a good idea to make 2 videos. This mv really makes it seem like a war anthem and moves you,the manifesto one was total hype and showed off their choreography

About them going to the military together, this past two albums sound like a kind of goodbye? Also, a theory I like a lot, DKDKTV talked about it, if they are going to the army, they can have prerecorded videos, songs, stages, a lot of things, if they are in the military doesn't mean the completely disappearing of BTS for two years. They can keep with the webtoon, or I insist, publishing like a couple of mini albums. Two years seem like a lot, but in BP style, is a comeback and a half (sorry for bringing this, but I'm salty about YG).

imho, this feels like the best way of showing their last hurrah before temporarily leaving for the military. leaving fans and the music world with a scale as big as this.... wow. it really is better for them to enlist all together than having to wait for them to be complete again in like 5 years time.

I actually love ON anthem like feel. The Kinetic Manifesto version also released on a traumatic day for my country political turmoil. I was at the very low moral state of mind that day, but ON really help pull me back up and not to give up on the fight for Democracy for my country. Thanks to BTS for always being there to pull me out of that negative headspace.

it’s really refreshing to see a music video like this. while I do love the visuals in kpop music videos, it does get a bit stale just to see the same thing over and over again. but this is different. wouldn’t expect anything less from bts

I think the reason why J-Hope's and Suga's scenes were shot in MV setting is because they have no significant screen time after their scenes. That way of shooting makes their scenes look more prominent.

In my opinion this MV looks like a short movie it's one of the most beautiful things that I've ever seen from BTS and I'm happy I found them in 2017 because now I can understand more about them and the meaning behind MV's. Here I see a lot of connection with bible but also with their big dreams and the thing that they will always be together so I think that maybe it's a big announcement that they will go together in the military I will not be surprise if they do that it will be smart but also will show everyone how close they are and how much they trust ARMY. So I feel very happy for this new MV I want to call it short movie. I was sure they will release something on a big scale and they did it. I love so much last part when Jungkook smile and run is like he finally is free and happy. In this MV RM is the leader because at the end he made a sign and the others followed him. I have to say that BTS are so unique in their own way. Jungkook part(singing) is so beautiful but also emotional.

Its interesting how people in the comments section have started prediction about military service and thus This song and album. It's not mine to call you guys wrong or judge BTS choices, they are the finest ,most humble artists I've ever seen. Bighit ,BTS should decide about their future ( as band or solo artists). But ,I just wanna stress here, that they are working very hard every CB ,let's not dampen their efforts with parting words. Let's just support them for now. Future hasn't come yet,so no need to actually calk this 'farewell' ..if it is BTS will surely reveal it. Being an ARMY, I wrote what I felt about the 'farewell' conversation. And PD, your reactions are always wise, and meaningful. So, Thank you. Borahae ARMY.💜

Istg My breath caught during that first beat and kook starts running with bound hands... almost cried on how beautiful all these are. Im like you actually where in im a much bigger movie lover that music enthusiast. I think i only got captured by bts because of all the other stuff like the story lines and extra art that goes into every single one of their work. Made me want to pay attention to music and appreciate it. And their awesome personalities don’t hurt either ;)

*the kinetic manifesto film video is to feel and conncect with their choreography,* *the music video is to feel and connect with the whole message of the song.* well, just for me 😅 thank you so much for this reaction PD!! I truly agree to what you said about how this music video changes the way you vibe with the song. It really feels like the song and the music video itself is talking or telling a story to you personally, I really understood what they are aiming to say with this song after watching this music video, and I think they really did that very well.
