Take HyunA, for instance: she certainly had the looks and the talent, but the thing about Hyori was that she didn't do those "oppa please like me"-songs, and Bubble Pop is just that. CL had the confidence, but she was never a hot topic in the Korean press like Hyori was. Hyolyn's solo career is full of excellent songs, and she probably came closest, but she doesn't have the star power as a soloist. Sunmi has a case, maybe. But she always followed a different path, and found her niche there. No, as far as I am concerned, this is what establishes Nayeon, with unabashed, CONFIDENT sex appeal, HUGE star power, and undeniable talent, as Hyori's heiress.

Look, I loce kpop an dhave for 15 years. But, when kpop artists do 90's-early 2000s Western R&B style songs, even when I REALLY love them, they still, at some level, feel like homages, like a talented effort coming from the outside in.. A song like Standing Next to You or Get It from Pristin V, and I LOVE those songs. But this just feels straight up like a 90's pop R&B dive song, it could fit right in with a Janet Jackson or Beyonce or Ciara or whatever song from that period. It's borderline shockingly good, I like it more than Pop and Pop was great.

I LOVED seeing another side to Nayeon! Obviously we know she is Main Vocalist material right alongside Jihyo and they fit so well together. We know Nayeon can rap from a few different clips of various shows or fan meets and she did some small amount of rapping in 'Pop'. We know she can dance like all the other members can dance but I think she stepped up her game just a little bit for this. 'Pop' really was an 'okay, that is so totally HER' kind of a moment, nobody was surprised at the genre or type that she displayed, totally 'expected' of her. This was such a departure, it WAS a completely unexpected surprise! We really should have known that she COULD do this. She pulled it off so well and I am so happy for her for that! I am a very proud Once!

Had the same reaction when I first watched the MV + my jaw dropped to the floor when she did THAT handmove. The buildup and the layers of ABCD are insane. The album is insane. I can’t remember the last Kpop album where every b-side could be a title track. Her voice and delivery left me speechless. With POP/IM NAYEON, esp with the b-sides, I thought ‘oh she is a really good soloist’. With ABCD/NA I’m thinking ‘Nayeon is THE soloist’. I’m so impressed with this comeback.

This is very 90s/early 2000s black female artist inspired. Like I know Ciara, Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child was doing this back in their early primes. My first thought was literally Goodies, Crazy in Love, and Lose My Breath. While I like Nayeon, this concept didn’t hit very hard for me. I think I’m just so used to her doing cutesy concepts that more mature pieces like this don’t feel authentic. Even the move where she placed her hand between her legs felt a little off in my opinion. I do like the song though
