Formula One Grand Prix "F1GP" also known as World Circuit in the US. is the first installment of Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix series. The game includes all 16 international GP circuits of 1991. Players may drive them in quick race mode, single race or a full championship. The 18 teams and 35 drivers and their performance are based on the 1991 season, but the game doesn't include real names. It is possible to edit and save team and driver names by hand.
The extensive tuning feature influences the performance of the car. In-race setup allows players to adjust gear ratios, brake balance, wing downforce and tires during each visit to the pit box. Six optional driving aids help F1 rookies finish their race: players can toggle best line and suggested gear displays to learn track tactics, or have auto brakes, auto gears, self-righting spins and indestructibility to improve their driving. A replay system allows players to watch race scenes from three different views, including track-side camera footage.
The game features 3D graphics and various details and effects such as working rear mirrors, collisions with flying debris, crude damage models (wings are visibly bent after crashes), and wet weather that influences traction, including a fog effect that obscures vision when driving in another car's splash water.
While the Amiga version allows multiplayer races in hotseat mode, the PC version originally had solo races only. In 1993, the v1.05 update added modem support and a few other improvements.

This is insane. Not only is it one of the first 3D games ever, coming out nearly a year before Wolfenstein 3D, but it also has surprisingly real physics for the time as well! Edit: When I say one of the first 3D games, I’m referring specifically to PC games

Probably the most legendary driver line up of any F1 game ever made; Pirro, Modena, Martini. Those were the days. Cut to 1:44:43 Mansell getting destroyed twice in a row.

Back then I loaded all actual team names and drivers into my career. It felt better than racing against fictitious names. Once you load your career then it keeps the names throughout the game modes provided you don’t exit the game. I loved playing this game even though I got it only in the late 90s.

I started sims with this when I was a kid. Decades later I get into sims again with F1 games, Race 07 and other stuff and I was shocked that I still know the tracks, the gears, the shifting everything. This was a REAL sim back in the '90s.

I feel a bit ashamed that I didn't play this back in the day, because this is a monumental achievement for 1991. A top spec 1991 pc would have been something like a 486 DX33 and I have doubts it would run as smoothly as in the video. This game probably wasn't a real performer until the DX2/66 era.

If you watch the intro, you will see that there is a big accident on the starting grid at Imola! Just like JJ Lehto in 1994! This game was released 3 years before!!

My very minor complaint about this game is that they made Häkkinen-> Kris Bergen and Lehto-> Lasse Jacobsan in the default names. Neither were Finnish names. But ofcourse you could change those.

Great memories there, especially trying out some fancy, 'non-regulation' manouvres to win against impossible odds (e.g. being at the back to star with and to win in under 10 laps). The best one was a manouvre overtaking 4 cars at the first chicane at Monza by going across the grass and then sliding in-between the cars half way around the chicane. Only ever managed it once, the rest of time I crash and burned!

Stowe was 4th gear not 2nd. And omg Abbey flat out in 6th gear not 1st gear. Raise the gear ratios a bit. Add more front wing.

the game would have been perfect if not for the cockpit colors... (ferrari, mclaren and dallara red) (williams, benetton and coloni yellow) ( jordan and larrousse green) (ligier and brabham blue) (tyrrell, footwork, lotus and ags white) ( fondmetal, lambo, leyton and minardi black or maybe gray)... l remember that lambos has coloni's paint... and coloni was yellow in this game...

Takes me back! I used to love playing this. I modified the teams with the actual F1 teams and drivers at the time, ended up with Ferrari and McLaren not in their actual colours to keep the performance realistic. Way ahead of its time, too

My oldest brother gave me his C64 to me in high school and this is one of the games that came with it. Played this countless hours on end. So far ahead of most of not all the other racing games of it's time! After a while I tried to win championships with the smaller teams. Wish I still had this. I'd play it today. The physics were excellent 👌

Had one very similar to this. It was on 5.25" floppy disk. Sat in a wet basement from 2003 to 2010. I'm pretty sure the floppy isn't any good. It would be cool to emulate in Android 11 though.
