FORMULA ONE VS INDYCAR | Head-to-Head

Despite their similarities in design, IndyCars and Formula One cars are completely different machines, created with different priorities in mind. IndyCar competes on a variety of tracks, with the cars changing dramatically depending on the circuit.
F1 is considerably more standardized each race, but the innovation and improvement of the cars creates more variability among the teams and makes them the quickest racing cars in the world around a regular race track.
Although an IndyCar is roughly 70cm shorter and substantially lighter than an F1 vehicle, the simpler aero means they are significantly slower around a regular track.
In 2019, the fastest Formula One lap was a 1:32 at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, while the fastest IndyCar lap was a 1:46 earlier in the year.
The top speeds of F1 cars are limited by circuits and draggy aero, so the highest speed you'll see in a season is usually around 220mph with the help of slipstream and DRS, whereas an IndyCar in superspeedway setup will nudge 240mph in clean air, despite having just a smidge over half the f1 1000 brake horsepower.

So combining real world data with a simulation’s data, is using it for your own personal viewpoint and not 100% based on accurate and correct data. I don’t think they did it maliciously, like politics are distorted, but it’s a bad thing to do and it’s why I pointed it out

F1 is the greatest motorsport there is. F1 cars are faster. They drive around tracks. Roads, streets. Not ovals with smooth track that’s great for the cars. They have the best drivers, mechanics, etc. in the world. It’s the most popular motorsport in the world. F1 has and is the best. There’s no debate.

They race at Detroit and Nashville which are arguably the most bumpy and demanding temporary tracks in the world. There’s no power steering or driver aids so they are much more physical to drive. Indycar has been around for longer, also has incredible drivers, produces far superior racing and is much more fan friendly (you don’t have to pay $800 for a grandstand ticket). Just because f1 is the biggest and the fastest, doesn’t make it the best. In fact Moto GP, endurance racing, Indycar and rally all produce far superior products overall compared to f1. Educate yourself before you comment

Ya but the engine and the bodywork stay the same other than the wings the suspension and other parts change depending on the track. Meanwhile Indy changes the bodywork and the engine in oval races. I like to think that indy is more straight line speed and F1 is more corner speed. Of course f1 beats indy 10/10 in a standard race track but F1 can’t compete the full indy500

Palou did 243mph at Indianapolis!! Remember Indy just has shy 710hp vs 1065hp of the F1, right know F1 budget is around $140M while Indy is just around $15M, Indy has the toughest tracks that's why those cars are simple there build to endure those tough surface. Put a F1 at Detroit street track is one of the worst at Indy lots bumps, the corners are insane!! Indy car almost past those rails by CM. But love both!!

The main difference is Indycars produces way better racing and competition, where in indycars every car has a chance to win. F1 only 2 drivers have a chance to win a championship.

Keep in mind, this is top F1 cars. In many areas Indy Cars are equivalent to the backmarkers and rear midfield of F1. This is despite having heacier cars and far cheaper engines and other parts than many of the worse F1 teams

It’s all track dependant. If they were racing on an oval the IndyCars have can achieve higher top speeds and would be quicker. F1 cars have higher drag coefficients due to the higher downforce, given the tracks styles they race on. However F1 cars are notably quicker around pretty much any other track layout, given their superior cornering abilities.

Obviously it’d be setup dependent, but if each had their lowest standard downforce wings used in an average season, an IndyCar would have a slightly higher top speed. Given the track types they race on, F1 cars are more reliant on downforce and therefore suffer higher drag.

Only one company make the chassis in Indycar, so there's no arms race making the cars faster like in F1, at least not anymore. Also Indycars are not designed to launch from a standstill so that acceleration test you did isn't as relevant

Indy car is more comparable to F2 than F1 in terms of speeds. Like F1 is faster, has more grip and more brakes. On top of that F1 cars are much more fuel efficiant. Only place indy cars have advantage is on ovals. And that is theoretical if F1 hosted race on ovals teams would bring aero and suspenssion packages for that so likely F1 would be faster.
