My mom taught first grade for almost fifty years. She always took the “slow” kids and the “troubled” kids back when teachers with seniority got to pick what ability level they wanted to work with. Not like the whole class, usually, but if there was a struggler that other teachers didn’t want assigned to their room or a kid from a bad family, my mom jumped to have them in her room. She got all the extra training over the years to help kids with literacy issues and kept up to date on new studies about what worked and what didn’t. I know I’m biased because she’s my mom, but the woman really is a saint. Just one of those rare good humans. Anyway, I guess I was about 11 when this came out. I still remember sitting next to her in the theater when he said that line and my mom started BAWLING. I asked if she was ok and she said she just wished she could give him a hug and it made her think of her students. I still can’t hear that line without tearing up now.

I’ve seen many reactions to this movie and have been stunned by how many reactors hate on Jenny. You got every single nuance of the story and, especially why Jenny was the way she was. And how she had no self esteem ( meaning she could only do Forrest harm.) A first class reaction. You are to be congratulated! 👍🏼

Such a great movie. Poor Jenny was sexually abused and was so broken. She didn’t want to corrupt Forrest. “Please make me a bird, so I can fly, far, far away.” She ran to get away but never felt good enough to deserve Forrest until the end. Tom Hanks was great. Great movie. Everyone was so good in it. Good reaction!

Jenny's problem is how she was used and abused, 1st by her father, then by every man she met except Forrest. She felt like she was worth nothing and was never going to be worth anything and would just bring Forrest down with her , she had no idea how to love anyone. It wasn't until she had little Forrest and was given one pure good thing in her life she was able to find her self worth to a point and then accepted that she loved Forrest and always had and it was OK to love someone and not expect them to hurt her. It is very complicated and you get snippets of it in every scene she is in. The first thing you see is all she knows how to do is run from anything as she keeps telling Forrest to do , she doesn't know any other way to deal with the pain and bad and it takes her so long to finally figure it out ( unfortunately this is true for too many and some never get to figure anything out) , Jenny deserves pity not hate , she didn't know how to love until it was too late but she gave Forrest 2 gifts before she left, true love and what it feels like , and someone to love and give his life meaning in Forrest Jr. . Forrest might not be a genius but I would lay any bet he is an incredibly loving and good father.

Excellent analysis of the complicated and often misjudged character that is Jenny. So many viewers hated the character because she didn't return Forrest's love. How was Jenny suppose to love Forrest when she didn't love herself. That's what child abuse does to a person. Thank You for your comprehension🤝🏽

And that level of quality of doing that was BRAND NEW. My parents were beside themselves cracking up and being astounded. Cause they had lived through those moments. After they had JFK say, “I believe he said he had to go pee,” my mom just gasped in the theater and whispered, “That looked completely real. I don’t know how they did that.” Lots of new CGI in this film that blew people away at the time.

The blonde girl on the bus who wouldn't let Forrest sit down is Tom Hanks daughter Elizabeth, Tom based his accent on the kid who played him as a kid because the kid was from the same area. There was going to be a sequel where Forrest was raising his son who had aids from Jenny and he was going to meet Princess Diana and be near the Oklahoma bombing and other 90's events but the script showed up the day before 9/11 and Tom and the director decided the movie had no meaning anymore so they didn't make it.

Many people hate Jenny for what she did to Forrest, but people need to understand the past trauma that made Jenny like this. Basically, Jenny was sexually, physically, and mentally abused since she was a toddler (5 years old), and *NOBODY* was there to put a stop to it. As a result, Jenny's mind was brainwashed and deluded and made her believe that she can handle the abuse no matter what and that she doesn't need help. That's why she rejected Forrest's help and intervention whenever she was assaulted or harrassed, why she never answered the letters that Forrest wrote to her while he was in Vietnam, and why she ran away from Forrest several times, becuase she believes she doesn't deserve love or help at all. She never learned to love, value, or respect herself, so instead of loving herself or Forrest, all she ever learned was to love those who abuse her, take advantage of her, manipulate her, make her feel bad, or damage her innocence. She also believes that she's not Forrest's type and she was only doing all of that for Forrest's sake. She told Forrest that he didn't know what love is, when in actuality, she's the one who didn't know what love is. Instead of accepting sweet and real love like Forrest's, all she accepted was hard love from her father and boyfriends. It was basically that the more Jenny hangs out with Forrest and adapts to his optimism and sweetness unlike her previous boyfriends, the more it takes for her to think about the past actions and selfishness towards Forrest all caused by her low self-esteem and trauma. It also took big red flags for her to realize her past actions, especially when she realized that she has an incurable sexually-transmitted disease and she has a son with Forrest that kind of made her a changed and more responsible person. But sadly, in this world we live in, it's a real thing that can actually happen to anyone, especially an innocent, defenseless toddler. Families and homes, similar to what Jenny grew up with, still exist today. :(

Not only that, but I think she felt like she took advantage of Forrest when she slept with him, because she didn't think he really knew what was going on. And in a way, to her, she became the same type of person her father was to her. Jenny's side of things is tragic.

1. It takes more than just being able to run fast to be a level 1 (Alabama with the Bear) RB. 2. Having getting his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. 3. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 4. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😋 5. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 6. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he looses his' 7. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis to John Lennon, Vietnam to the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking but that wasn't touched. ESPECIALLY the music.😎 8. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. 9. When he finishing a segment about death he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 10. Tom Hanks is the GOAT.

Look I get it that Jenny's got some personal trauma from her past but she continues to look for punishment on purpose, I'm sorry as a personal matter of life choices all she's dealing with some stuff it does not excuse her to treat forest like shit throughout their lives together or half of their lives because in the beginning she was a good friend and then she turn bitch towards him, she constantly is running away from him and I understand maybe she doesn't feel good enough for him maybe that's it, but where I draw the line is the fact that she kept his son a secret all those years and the only reason she reached out was because she was dying, he ran for 3 years that kid is 5 years old, So there's a 2 years extra so honestly she was not going to tell him about the kid the only reason why she did now was because she was dying and I still don't see how she'll ever love him because she didn't. This story is sad but at the same time I love Forrest look on life as positive. He's a good soul.

Really enjoying your reactions. Have you watched band of brothers or the pacific yet? Both are really good and highly recommend. I think you'll enjoy them too. God bless 🙌

Psalm 15: LORD, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on your holy mountain? Whoever walks without blame, doing what is right, speaking truth from the heart; Who does not slander with his tongue, does no harm to a friend, never defames a neighbor; Who disdains the wicked, but honors those who fear the LORD; Who keeps an oath despite the cost, lends no money at interest, accepts no bribe against the innocent. Whoever acts like this shall never be shaken.
