Did anyone see Jesus at the Fort? Or Prince Henry the Navigator, The Pope and the Apostate Catholic Church start the West African slave trade which grew into the Transatlantic Slave trade and contravene 1 Timothy ch 1 v 10, which says MENSTEALING is contrary to sound doctrine?

Most Kenyans think of Fort Jesus as an attraction. It was actually a place of grieving and sadness to enslaved Africans. Even after the abolition of the evil trade the fort was used to 'smuggle' slaves outta Africa.

The fort was built by the Portuguese as a military post to protect the Swahili Coast, Mombasa then was Called Mvita which means a City of War since Many people wanted to conquer it, that's why Fort Jesus has old war tools like canyons . The Swahili Coast slave trade was done by Arabs not Europeans. In fact Europeans copied the idea from Arabs before the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

@@nairobinyeusi5811 They weren't protecting the coast because of the goodness of their hearts. They were protecting a trade route of which the most valuable commodity were the thousands of slaves shipped from there. The Arabs and Europeans both used the port for this purpose and even later when the British took over, they used it to jail the resistors of colonialism. Kenyatta was earlier on detained there.

@@Martin-jc3un They were trying to conquer the coast. That area was a deadly battle ground contested between the Mijikenda Bantus, Arabs,Portuguese, Persians and the British that's why it was called Mvita which means in Swahili a place of War. The fort was built by the Portuguese after they took over but were eventually kicked out by the British who ended up colonizing East Africa through Mombasa after building a railway inland with the use of Indian slave labour whom they shipped from India.

There are a lot of gaps of information when it comes to the east African slave trade Few narratives of the enslaved I'd like to know more about - injustices done be the slavers (arabs, europeans) - Destinations of the enslaved - Resistances and uprisings by the enslaved - Runaway stories - any communities of runaways built Watching from Muthama, Kenya

The Portuguese slave trade was began by Pope Nicolas V and recorded in his Romanus pontifex, papal bull of Portugal, 8 January 1455, courtesy of the Arqivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo, Lisbon, Portugal. This papal bull, through the Vatican, legally granted Portugal the right to enslave any and all Afrikans they encounter south of Cape Bojador, on the coast of Western Sahara.

Fort Jesus in Mombasa is a name just given by the Slave Masters(Portuguese Colonists)and built by African slaves without their will. Until today Africa suffers without no credit, without no respect, without no dignity, without no Reward in the End. Outsiders taking all the Natural resources but with little Respect or Reward to Africa/Africans. We always 4give and 4get but it's our time to Unite N take over Our Continent back. Hello Phil great to see you at Fort Jesus there is a lot of history on slavery at the coast which is not fully documented and memorialized by the local communities and Government. There are locations like Mambrui , Kengeleni , Freetown and Shimoni that should have markers and powerful memorials where descendants of enslaved can come back and do pilgrimage just like you are doing. Most of the ivory that was stolen from Central Africa Congo , Angola and Eastern Africa was sold to 2 large companies in Connecticut cities of ivoryton and Essex. These ivory was used to make pianos. Dr. David Livingston a missionary who interacted with the slave traders estimated that for every ivory it took about 5 slaves to carry and 4 more died on the way from hinterland to the slave ships. From ship records over 100 000 elephants were killed and estimated 2 million slaves who went to the America's, Middle East , North America. There is need to do more research and preserve the historical assets using markers for purposes of repairing past injustices. I am still researching on this subject.
