This song features Styles of Beyond. Who also had a song featured in Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005 Version) which was Nine Thou. They also appeared as a feature on Shapeshifter by Celldweller which was also featured in the game. Shapeshifter was also the theme for Razor, the main antagonist for the game's career mode.

It may be just that I've loved the "Numb/Encore" song since high school so I have rose-colored glasses, but I always justified the discrepancy between Jay and Chester's verses as a story being told about the passing of a torch. It goes from a legend reminding people of their accomplishments to a new artist who wants to break out of their predecessor's shadow and do their own thing. Again, that was how my teenage brain justified the different topics, but I love the song due to that personal meaning-making.

What made this album solid for me was that they had actual talented and top tier lyricists featured throughout the album. Oh and this is the first time I think Skylar Grey got any mainstream attention as well.

Yeah, KoRn gets a lot of undue guff; while I can’t speak for their work post-Untouchables (except See You On the Other Side, which had a fucking Dem Franchise Boys mashup that was better than it had any right to be) there was a lot of raw emotion and genuine musicality in their first albums that their imitators sorely lacked. Plus, like a lot of kids in the early 2000s, I was introduced to the genre of heavy metal thanks to them, and for that I’ll be eternally grateful.

@AllWIllFall2Me5 жыл бұрын
With Numb/Encore, I always felt that there was ALMOST a cogent song from the two halves, but that they needed something to connect it. Because, yes, Jay-Z's rapping about how amazing he is and how he'll blow you away...but he's also explicitly ending his career, saying goodbye, and asking for the crowd's approval, ("Do you want an encore, do you want more...For one last time, I need y'all to roar.") and those verses END, before Linkin Park's kick in...expressing a constant self-doubt and feeling of being trapped, and a desire to stop being what YOU want them to be, and instead be what THEY want to be. Like, if this were a purely Lupe or Kendrick joint, you could see it: the video would be them on stage, performing, and then walking into a dark backstage, and sitting as crew bustled around them, visually showing that they're nothing when they not performing, Like a more schizophrenic version Lupe's Bitch Bad video, where we saw the pain and cost of black performers having to portray black stereotypes to support themselves, but here we're meant to exult with the performer in the moment...so that the resulting recitation of how this performance is killing them is more impactful. Which works TEXTUALLY from the Numb/Encore mash-up, but does not read in performance. Because it's not one voice, we feel like the singer in Numb is purely a different person than the one in Encore, the music doesn't switch enough to reflect the more somber tone, etc.
