Very cool riffage taking place in the first comparison. Great job here and especially the bunch of preamp comparisons.

They sound identical. That's because the circuits are the same. The pcbs(circuit boards) both say grind/33v2 on them. The differences are due to parts tolerances. Capacitors have 20% tolerance so that will change the eq curves slightly. The pedals are the same. Try out 2 different ts808s you will get the same results. Good to hear in an example how close they are. Look at the eq graphs lol literally identical. One was louder than the other. Probably due to the tolerance of resistance on the potentiometer. You can have them both at noon but measure the resistance and see if they are matched. I'd bet my left nut they aren't dead on
@MetalHeadProductions
@MetalHeadProductions 5 жыл бұрын
Correct, they have the same board,but having the same board doesn't make them identical. The 33 is very close but has some minor tweaks to make it more like a tc preamp Fredrik used for years.
@MetalHeadProductions
@MetalHeadProductions 5 жыл бұрын
The curves aren't identical and one wasn't louder. I was real careful to make sure everything was the same for recording my audio. My results match other results people have gotten and mapped out. I have compared a lot of pedals with the same circuits, dude. I've worked with pedals for a long time, and for a while it was part of my job.

Slim, on the 33 pedal, there’s a little hidden switch on the side under the side quarter inch jack, what does the switch do?
@MetalHeadProductions
@MetalHeadProductions 4 жыл бұрын
That controls the polarity for the channel switching option if you have a two channel amp. If you have a two channel amp and have the other jack plugged in, you can turn the 33 on and switches channels at the same time.

Metalhead Productions thanks Slim. I got a 33 in the mail today. I play a Friedman BE100 watt head. The 33 sounds awesome in front of it. As you may know the BE has a top notch gain channel in the HBE mode. I did notice when I have the 33 maxed out and play a guitar with an EMG 81 it tends to bog down and muffle the sound with clipping as if Mike Fortin is choking out Dave Friedman lol. In your experience does the 33 respond better with not as high output passive pickups? The sound with the EMG cleaned up as I rolled back the 33 to noon ish.

@@kylefitzgerald2497 dude, congrats on the Friedman, I'd love one, specifically a butterslsx but damn that BE is great. I never use the 33 maxed out. I think the sweet spot in around 2 o'clock on it. When you max it out it's just absolutely slamming the front end with so much volume

Metalhead Productions I had a Butterslax Head. The day after I ordered it a guy listed a brand new condition Friedman BE100 & 4/12 Cab on Craigslist which I grabbed for $3200 for the half stack. Seller still had the Sweetwater boxes. It was some lawyer burning cash who wanted a cool amp but his wife hated it (volume) so he downgraded to an EVH lunchbox. So with the BSLAX on the way, I had WAY to much money tied up in Amps. I sold the Butter on Reverb. They were so close in sound. Like put a blindfold on, crank them both up and I could have guessed wrong. I do think the Butterslax is the best looking amp in the line.

hello friend, what pedal do you think Revv g4 or G3 is better for extreme metal, or might fortin 33 or wrampler dracarys be better
@MetalHeadProductions
@MetalHeadProductions 5 жыл бұрын
G3 and G4 are preamps based on channels from the revv generator 120. The Fortin 33 is a boost you use to hit your high gain amp harder and tighten everything up. The dracarys is a distortion. It all depends on what you need because these pedals all do different things

@@carroza111 yeah I'm not totally sure as I never used the channel switch function on the 33. The 33/grind were made to channel switch two channel amps, but since the crunch and channel switching are controlled by the footswitch, yeah, maybe the 33 doesn't. Can't say for sure, sorry, man.

It might work, though it seems people really love them for boosting Mesa amps. But I get good results boosting a '78 JMP with A Boss SD-1, which can be followed with a decent and even cheap 7 or 10 band eq pedal to shape it just a bit tighter and push it just a little more for a combined tight high gain sound. A noise gate pedal can also be used to tighten up the riffing.

@MetalHeadProductions
@MetalHeadProductions 5 жыл бұрын
They are EQ'd boosts. They are meant to get a particular modern metal sound and do that well. The grind is based on Mike's grind setting on his amps like the natas, and the 33 is a tweaked version of the grind from Fredrik from messuggah.

Those that say these two sound the same you need a different set of ears. On isolated tracks it is clear day and night. On mixed tracks, that is dependent on whoever behind produced it to be able to reveal that difference. Some people don't mix into that much depth and try to show the difference as guitars nowadays are just produced as massive boxy mids walls. But if you are careful and put in effort in sculpting out the eqs in mixing you CAN reveal different guitar track differences.
@Adrin1117
@Adrin1117 4 жыл бұрын
They do sound the same.. because they are the same. They're literally the same pedal just with different covers. There are slight differences due to product tolerances. But there's definitely no day and night difference. You might be the one needing a new set of ears lol

nice demo, shows again how similar they are. that liiiiittle differency might just be due to the 33 being turned up a bit more than the grind. and since they are actually the same pedals, that shouldn't be surprising.

They aren't the same as they have a different eq. They were settle same for the recording, and I play with both out of mix so you can hear the difference, which are small but there.
@le0_fx
@le0_fx 5 жыл бұрын
@@MetalHeadProductions why do you think they have different eq? its the same frequency curve, the same PCB (take yours apart, says "33/grind" on the pcb), the same components (with one diode removed/added(dont remember which way) on the 33 for +2dB boost). check out plague scythe studios video, he took both pedals apart and measured the frequency response, they are so fockin identical it's just down to component tolerance. as for the tiny audible difference in your video, the pedals aren't set the same in the pictures provided at the beginning, and the frequency diagram doesn't show a clear difference in tone since not only the peaks of the harmonics are louder on the 33, most of the "valleys" between are louder, too.

@@le0_fx there are minor differences between them. I showed it in my video, and you can hear it when I switch between them, I can when playing, and mixing especially, and you can see it in the EQ graph I linked to and put in the videos. its minor things to the low end, minds, and high end. very, very minor, but they are there.

@@MetalHeadProductions hm, don't know if i made this clear enough. both pedals use the same PCB, use resistors/caps of the same values, and their frequency response is so identical it's inaudible. I am hearing differences in your video. but i can see clearly that both pedals in the beginning aren't set the same (they should be for a fair comparison) so thats where the minor difference comes from. your graph shows just that everything is louder with the 33, not only particular frequency ranges.
