I used to write my first drafts longhand with a fountain pen to avoid editing, but transcribing took forever. Then I moved to a typewriter and used OCRM scanning, which saved time, but the writing time took a while and I still had to edit lines together. Now that I've picked up the Freewrite I've been able to just sync and copy/paste into Scrivener and it's speeding things up for me so much and it still keeps the spirit of avoiding the editing while drafting.

Not really. This device is a welcomed break for those of us who don't want to look at our blue-lit screens on a laptop anymore, that we've been looking at all day for our day jobs. Also, the battery life an mobility of the set up you are describing simply won't compare to the Freewrite. But if it works for you, congratulations! But what you describe most certainly IS NOT a Freewrite, but a modified laptop that I'm tired of looking at all day.

No e-ink is main problem. It is possible to get cheap, old laptop, remove wifi drivers, move files with pendrive. But nice keyboard, especially with stand for tablet, get android-based ebook reader or even e-ink smartphone. But if u want nice device just for writing - freewrite I guess

@@fasdkjaszdfkjhgbkadh Yes, obviously. That's what people want this device for. Only writing. Hence the name, "Freewrite". I have since purchased the device, and am very glad I did. Typing on it really is a different experience that is liberating in a way I've never felt on a laptop or a desktop computer. I understand that others may find this device unnecessary to help them write, but for anyone who thinks it may be helpful, I would encourage the purchase of one, speaking from experience.
