Politicians of your country have zero sum game mindset. Since your country is the sole superpower after Soviet Union collapse in early 90's, politicians of your country are afraid that China will surpass them in the future. This is why your government feeds you anti-China rhetoric everyday.

I would argue that you are very articulate. The bright city lights at the end of the video reminded me of Beijing, when people I had come to know during visits, kindly drove me to the airport. I didn't want to leave (2012). But I'm going to Lhasa in October via Chengdu - I can't wait. Another enlightening video (good stories). I'm sure we all cried with you 😊.

Inarticulate...? Confusing...? This video was SO clear and open and vulnerable! I love your videos, Siming! You are breaking new ground with them! You are using the power of openness, curiosity, and your strong belief in human connections to break some very tough barriers -- barriers that are pulling the world apart right now. It is an awesome power! Take care of yourself and please continue on your path!

Hello! I discovered your channel last year and it's my favorite one on KZbin! I'm American, but my mother is Chinese born in Singapore and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and my dad is Mexican born and raised in Los Angeles. I've always taken a great interest in China, and especially thanks to my husband who is Brazilian and has really got me into the history of China and he admires how the country has lifted up its people in such a short amount of time. It's both of our dreams to one day come visit China together and get to know the China that we never get to hear about in mainstream media. Thank you for creating such informative, beautiful an inspiring videos that speaks to curious minds like myself and so many in the comments here. Looking forward to the next one!

I taught English in Foshan for a year 20+ years ago. Back then it was a grimy factory town with a small shopping downtown district. We would take a small bus there from the industrial area, which wasn’t far. Thank you for doing a video about your hometown and see how it’s developed. I learned to really respect the Cantonese culture and learn about China more broadly.

A beautiful video Siming--thank you. I am a former high school teacher. Several of my students tracked me down to tell me how I changed their lives--one even naming his child after me. So your emotional reaction was very real for me. I also teared up. BTW, I wrote to you before about Peter Hessler's book River town--which is based in Fuling. I believe you lived in Fuling at one point in your life.

I am also from Guangdong but not from Foshan and I am currently studying a history degree in overseas! I experienced the exact same struggles such as cultural and political identities struggles as well as u did! And I am also a person who truly believes two different ideologies can get well with each other. I am not sure if all the Cantonese have the similar mindset tho. I also want to get along with everyone as well as you do too! My bestie whom I met overseas is from Taiwan and one of my close friend is from HK. I also made a lot of frens from Vietnam and Malaysia. Anyways, when I know u are from Guangdong I am just simply feeling so excited!!! I have been watching all of your videos girlie!❤❤❤ Wish your channel would grow faster! I'm always fascinated to hear about education in China, because of the high-spirited students in studying, even though they just listen but I can feel how teachers are so respected. At the end of the day, they realize the actual education is all about perseverance, resilience, hard work to face any challenges to make us grow. No wonder Chinese education is superior, easy to grapple anything. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, your videos have gotten really impressive since the last time I watched. I really liked the story you told about that teacher who made a positive impact on your life. I think a lot of people can relate to that experience, most people can think of at least one great teacher who helped them find something they were pationate about or simply made them excited about going to school. An equal amount of people can probably think of a bad teacher that made their life hell for a year or so. It's one of the reasons I am going to school to be a teacher this upcoming fall, I hope to be able to make a positive impact some day.

Siming, thank you for such heart felt video. I understand your situation in your earlier years as I too was bullied in school. I really did not enjoy learning until I got to college. Students were too busy to be concerned with trivial things. I am 60 now and I am still learning and enjoy it. I enjoy your videos and learning about China, your country and culture is so much older than mine and it is interesting to see how humans have developed over centuries. We are constantly fed BS from our government how China is trying to take over and I am tired of it, so I thought I would find out for myself. I am glad I found your channel. So again, thank you for sharing.

Your experience in talking to a group of exchange students from the USA gave you a sense of success and you earned confidence in learning, or even self. Your English teacher just did the right thing. In the process of preparing your presentation, you learned how to learn and this is the essence of learning (metacognition). Most teachers in China are great. Help please 😅 As someone from Foshan, you may know this. ChatGPT told me about a local story from Foshan. It said : The river of Foshan flooded the village every year. One day a kind old man came to Foshan. He had a white beard and a wooden staff. He told the locals the floods come, because of an angry river dragon. The locals built a dragon boat. The dragon saw the boat. And the dragon liked it. The river never flooded the village of Foshan again. That is the reason why there are dragon boat races in Foshan today. Is that story correct? I've shortened the story. This is a comment after all. If it is, that is wicked cool! ✌😁

I had been to Foshan and Shunde many times, a nice place to be for good food and some nice places to visit. Lake of Thousand Lamps is a really nice place to visit indeed! You are really blessed to have met your high school teacher who lets you blossom in your own way and pace, to a point it makes me so jealous of you since I have never come across any teacher that I regard as a mentor or someone who let me explore myself and the world freely, your teacher is a rare breed even in Hong Kong where education system is spoon fed by nature and not allowing one to be creative (is it by design of the then British Government?), unless you can attend International School but have to pay a premium to get in! BTW, where's this place with a tower and three dome shaped structure?
So Cute 🥰
