So true. I intervened once in an animal abuse situation. Going out to dinner the wifey and I saw a guy kicking a dog. My girl prefers I not get involved, but we took a neighbors cat and gave her a choice, we leave the cat but call the cops to investigate OR she let's us rescue it and she won't miss it anyway. Besides, Precious Kitty had been hit by a car in the street, left for dead. My sister saved her. Her hip was broken. It wasnt until Precious Kitty was all healed up. Long solid black, beautiful meow meow. Then the neighbor saw her and coaxed her over and locked her in the house. That night she was on the porch meowing at the door. Next morning BANG BANG it's the weird neighbor lady demanding her cat back. We took pictures of stages of recovery/healing. 5months. After a week it came to a boil and the confrontation. We had Precious Kitty 6years. She would regularly leave a mouse or bird on the porch, her way of contributing

ícҽís թհօҽղíx Pitt bulls are not evil animals “with an instinct to kill”. They have a bad reputation because they were used as fighting dogs, but that isn’t their fault. They can be sweet animals if they are raised right, and treated with love and kindness. They are only dangerous if people abuse them, and they learn to distrust and they become scared, and even then people like the ones in the video can turn around the dog’s attitude. The progression is so amazing. And that smushed face at the end while she was relaxed really shows how far a little love and patience can bring a dog back to a happy place.

Damn her foster family REALLY got their stuff down. She went from not moving from the corner of the yard with them, to jumping onto the bed of a new home! Jeez, what pros.

I can not fathom how anyone can treat a living being the way they treated Iris. So horrifying. You’re so precious, Iris! So happy you found a loving home.

I'm in tears. This was so heartwrenching in the beginning and then super heartwarming in the end. Props to Max, though, for not rushing into Iris' face and overstimulating her. He's a smart boy!

This is almost exactly what I went through with my rescue who was used in fights or something. It took about 2 years for him to completely become a real dog.

My mom has a pitbull/german short hair mix who was a rescue. Very similar. He would not let us touch him. He would just cower into our other dog nellie. With much love he is a whole new Dog.

It's so sad when a dog is so scared but so touching to see them happy again. Reminds me of when I watched a family friends dog, he was a big rescue dog that they adopted and I came out a few days before they left to meet him and he was so friendly and followed us around and let me pet him just fine but then I went to stay at the house to watch him and he was like an entirely different dog. Which is understandable but it was so sad to see him so scared and to know that animals never forget what they go through. He hid from me and was almost always under the kitchen table looking out the front window waiting for them to come back. He barked whenever he saw me walking around or if I talked to him. So I just decided to never push him and left a treat on the floor once and a while. At the end of the week though, the last two days, he started to peek at me in the living room from around the couch and on the last day he collapsed into my lap and just slept there. It made me so happy to see him trust me.

Great story. Thank you The Dodo. Seeing Cleo at the end brought back some memories. When I was a teen we had this dog that looked just like her. We just found her one day wandering nearby in the neighborhood. She was well trained and incredibly smart. We took to just calling her "Dog" as we canvassed the entire neighborhood to try to find her owner. But we never found anyone. So, she joined our family. The name stuck. Though we changed it to "Dawg" to make it more appropriate. It wasn't until a little later that we had any clues to her history as we found out that she HATED old men. She would not let them get anywhere near her and would have the most vicious bark towards them. She was super sweet with everyone else. So, we came to think that she maybe belonged to an old man who beat her. We think one day she just had enough and bolted. Dawg lived out the rest of her life with us being well loved.

Seeing her hide behind that bin was downright heartbreaking. She was as far away and as hidden from people as she could be. It makes me sad to think of all the other dogs like Iris out there who won't be rescued. 😭😞

Aw, Iris reminds me so much of my dog I just adopted! He was a stray for over a decade and, when I first got him, he wouldn't come inside, he'd stand in the doorway just staring in, and wouldn't sleep on anything but bare floor. But with patience (and encouragement from my other amazing dog), he's really coming out of his shell (I honestly cried the first time he let me pet him without pulling away). Seeing how far Iris came with her foster family gives me hope that, with time, my guy will learn how safe and loved he is.

Of course I watch as many of these stories as I can, but I’ve watched this one like 10 times. Every time I need to smile, I watch this video. Tells me their are still good people in this world. Cause all I see is the dark side. So it’s my light. These families that adopt or foster are just incredible.

Experience makes a hell of difference. For anyone with less experience: do not do what they did. Petting and touching a fearful dog backfire immensely when not done right. .

@Sleepy comments No, they CAN be, just like people. Training dogs is key.

Sleepy comments You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Most large animals can be dangerous but very very few dogs are dangerous. I’d trust a random dog rather than a random person any day of the week and I am a fairly trusting person. I have known hundreds of dogs and met literally thousands. I say hello to any dog that comes within a few metres of me and since I’m in my 50s and spend a lot of time walking, I have met a lot of dogs. I have had three small bites, none of which broke the skin and I’ve only ever been bitten by a dog that I approached once. Dogs are not dangerous. Dogs are not people, it’s true. Dogs are more trustworthy than people.

As someone who used to be a dog handler, this is very true. Body language is a huge indicator.

@@joshuarosen6242 Truth! The only time I've been bit is when I first started working at a dog daycare. Two dogs got into a fight and I got in between them, catching a deep bite to the leg. The only other time I've been bit was a very shallow, scared bite. Which again, was because of a reaction and me not able to sense it quickly enough. This was out of hundreds of dogs I've dealt with (not quite a thousand though!) Most dogs do not bite if handled properly.
