I’m with Uli on that last point. It should work like a warning system, and if someone has already been ‘warned’ twice in a round it’s much easier to call them out on it again and not seem antagonistic.

Yea I completely agree. I think it makes a lot of sense from that standpoint. Nothing worse than having to play with time violaters. The round just drags and it's hard to keep your flow going

You can only call time out twice a round. Its like a re-rack in bowling. You get 2 per game. It adds a minute or 2 to the over all. It wont affect pace of play honestly.
@blakebrittain1294

Let’s look at it a different way. You have well over a 100 players in a pro tour tournament between FPO and MPO. Let’s say only half of a 100 players uses there time outs. Thats 50 x 2 which is 100+ minutes added. That is another hour and 40 minutes added. That’s if players are strict on the 60 seconds per timeout. Thats not including the extra 30 seconds they will get after the timeout. These rounds already take all the way into the evening to finish now since both MPO and FPO play the same course on the same day. You add the extra time from timeouts, you are absolutely slowing down pace of play.

I can see how documenting the instances of speed of play leniency will improve awareness and enforcement of the rules about speed of play. This rule is a great experiment and I can see how it’s written specifics are not elaborate enough to cover all situations it might need used in, but also how writing a rule that long would kill it from the start. Let’s give it a try

Why do I feel like in most other sports people are way to competetive to let people get away with these rule violations. If they wanna put it on the players to enforce the rules on each other then we need to let them do that without fear of them not getting along.
@samdoss1736

I’d say you get 2, 30 second “timeouts” a round. It would essentially be a time extension to make your 30 seconds 60. And then id be very strict on the time rules. If everyone takes 30 seconds for 50+ throws and then takes 60 seconds on 2 throws it’s not gonna affect pace of play.

I think it’s been said, Uli is onto something. From an opponent/competitor perspective the timeout is essentially a warning. This lowers the stakes on holding guys to their 30sec, and then as Uli points out if you call a guy twice forcing timeouts, it becomes much easier to “stroke” him on the 3rd strike. To Brodie’s point, does it actually improve pace a play? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

let them have a timeout for a bathroom break if they need one? they should extend the 30 second rule to 45 seconds though. that's about how much time they are taking anyways, right? But have a rules official on the fairway / green with a stop watch and actually time them. if they don't beat it, then penalize them a stroke on that hole

I have seen, on the pro level, in person, that they rarely make any calls. Almost every single player takes, " too long." Lots of foot faults on film. I'm comparing to local and am events. I understand that the pro's do it because there is so much more, on the line, to lose or gain. Amatuers and locals do a great job of policing themselves. The pro's are the ones that need officials, on the course.

the pdga just has to identify the slowest players/slowest combined cards and stay on the time. if you have cupcake and goose on a card, then have someone there. if you have gannon buhr and nikko on a card, get someone on it. if you have emerson keith and dickerson on a card, stay on the time. if you have ricky, calvin, mcbeth, and barela on a card, no need to look into their time. identify the slow cards, and fix it, it's so simple and the management just is slacking
@ThugLifeBitches1
@ThugLifeBitches1 Ай бұрын
It’s not simple like you think it is because you haven’t thought of very much. Let’s say we throw out everything and go along with it for the sake of making a point, this only would work for the first round of play because all of the subsequent rounds are based on placement in the tournament and makes complete sense the way it is. From what I’m seeing when I look up how the cards are made I get two possibilities, random draw and a seeding system based on tour rankings. The seeding system again makes sense the way it is so there’s not really much to change as far as that goes. You only know the players you know about, there are lots of people playing in these tournaments and to do the level of micromanagement required in your theory is not worth the trouble vs the payout of the “issue” that it supposedly solves

To make disc golf more interesting, have the most recent winner decide a new rule to be in effect only for the next tournament. The process repeats with the next winner. At the end of the season, the players vote on a rule they would like to be made permanent from the past season.

This sounds like a great idea. If Brodie or any player supports spending more than 30secs on a tough shot sometimes because it is important and adds value to coverage when someone is analyzing options (I've heard him express this, maybe has changed opinion, I agree they should though) then we should try to allow it without letting players take longer anytime they think it's a tough important shot. I think this would make the field way more time conscious too with stopwatches ready and start calling players when they are taking more than 30secs if they dont call timeout. Sounds super legit to me and adds to the professionalism. When will we see these players be democratic on the course instead of talking about it on podcasts and coverage after the fact? It makes the sport so unique and awesome to see players handle those tense moments, they are too rare for high level competition. The tour should not showcase someone taking more time unless it is allowed and if its allowed with no limit I'll give up my dream to get a contract 😮 I want to throw discs more not just be on the course longer. Sheesh.. good job guys, got me typing lately lol

It's a stupid idea because the time rules are not being enforced at all so what's the point? I'm also not at all in favor of PDGA trying to force the pace of play rules into being so cut and dry. Like it's been discussed in this podcast, if you take ten seconds to execute most of your throws and keep a brisk pace in everything else you do, you should be allowed to take your time when you do need it - as long as you're in net negative for the round. In other words, enforce the rule exactly how the guys here are suggesting... You don't need an official on every hole or following every card, the Pro Tour has live scoring so it only needs a few people, surely it can be done.
