I don't think that's typical. They definitely mention it now and then, but it's inconsistent at best and they don't build storylines from it. I feel like DGN hates to mention anything negative. So often they stop commentating when someone misses a putt for example. If I'm listening to coverage, it's infuriating, especially if it's a chain out. No idea if the putt was made when they just never mention it again and cut to someone else. I have to rewind (at least we can do that now) and check. So discussions about how poorly people are doing? Feels like they're allergic to that.

It's asking a lot for pros to stay another day for a chance of cash vs guaranteed cash. I also think it would cripple the pro tour since guaranteed cash lines would go away.

Dustin did way better than Gary in the final and probably should have won. Gary basically regurgitated everything Dustin said with only a point or two about Sofia's specific athletic background that was not already mentioned. Don't know how he got so many points by basically repeating the same 1:45 almost verbatim.

Side note: really love the commentary from everyone on this one. I'm new to disc golf and I am discovering a lot of new content creators... Brodie, how you are reacting to the comments has me a surprised and pleased. Addresses peoples internet comments very well, imo. Although you come off as a big personality, to address the comments coming at you shows so much tact. Trevor doing a great job moderating too... Maybe let's just step in when Brodie is yelling 👍 All that being said... The Mando ruling that happened was fine. The rules themselves do need to be addressed. The disc golf course should be like traffic lights. The Mando aka the big sign, should show the exact point of where you need to be left or right from. Cash wise, 3 cut lines is fine, but let's make the cash line as large as possible to grow the sport

@DiscItfortheBiscit I hard disagree. Sam made solid points that the others reiterated if not directly gave him credit for. Example: Dustin and Gary - two abnormally fast talkers who keep coherent as they go.

@devonwatt2194
@devonwatt2194 4 ай бұрын
Baseball foul poles are a boundary marker, not at all the same as a mando. mados are in bounds 99% of the time and tell you where you need to throw. Comparing to baseball, that would be like telling a hitter they have to hit it to the right side of second base or it doesn’t count as a hit.

for the mando sign, at what point is the right most portion of the tree. If the mando is not the actual sign, one could argue from the caddie book that if the disc was within the birds eye view of the tree canopy that it makes the mando.

When evaluating player of the year, I think of it this way. If 18 (or just choose a reasonable number) random holes across all the courses on the entire pro tour were picked to play 1 "super round" or whatever, if I had to wager an absurd amount of money on who I think would win, who would it be?

Cut line same a cash line. Don't allow ties in the cut though. If there is a tie for 45th there should be a playoff. Even if it's one hole CTP in regulation or outright winner. Allowing the ties into the cut complicates the payout formula. And there's your added narrative. Show the playoff.

Brody is on the right track but the solution can't be standardizing mandos on split trees because not all tree splits are built the same, there can very easily be instances in which having a mando apply to only one side of a tree's fork would be engaging in the shot shaping of a hole. Imo, the answer is with the DGPT, if they want to be the ruling authority for the pro tour they should ensure that tournament directors and courses meet a certain standard that they set.
@kero1640

I don't really understand a player of the year argument being subjective like an MVP award. Team sports have an MVP and individual sports have a player ranking system. If you want to know who has the best year just look at the pro tour points.
@Viral9
@Viral9 4 ай бұрын
You have a very good point, and yet I could see weird situations where players who made a big impact on the season also missed a bunch of events. What if someone had just as many wins as the points leader but had fewer starts? What if the points leader won zero majors, or had a bunch of wins while missing cash every other week? In short, I think it's worth recognizing the points leader in some way that is separate from player of the year, but points alone could get weird when there are other factors worth considering. It would be interesting to look back at previous years.
@bsmithhammer
@bsmithhammer 4 ай бұрын
It's not subjective. It's very simple and completely objective. Most tour points in a given season = Player of the Year. I don't know why they keep wanting to make it more complicated than that.

Brodie is right about standards need set, because without standards you can't have a set precedent, or expectations.
@thumberlife
@thumberlife 4 ай бұрын
100% agree. The follow up to that standard, that we were trying to convey to Brodie is that if a standard is created, someone is still ultimately responsible for ensuring the standard is communicated and enforced at each event. If that person or party doesn't do that, they are responsible for the confusion, not the rule itself.
@Zipoqs
@Zipoqs 4 ай бұрын
@thumberlife you are very true about that. I believe a TD is responsible for said supervision/management. But also with an organization, like the PDGA they should set the standard, and either watch over or bring in a "director" if you will to audit what the TD has modified and or done, and evaluate and approve that is meets the standards. They shouldn't just make a TD responsible and then trust it is done correctly / to the right qualifications. (I am unsure how the PDGA does about it but with such varying circumstances event to event It seems they don't micromanage it)
@thumberlife
@thumberlife 4 ай бұрын
@Zipoqs I think what makes that tough is the relationship between the tour and the PDGA. For Majors where the PDGA is in charge, 100% on them. Maybe this is a good place for the tour to employ a small team to ensure standards are kept.

I think that where the conversation got lost is that both groups want the same thing. We all agree that standardization needs to happen for stuff like this. Personally, they should create a standard marker that is used in all cases. That will accomplish what Brodie is talking about. However, it is still the responsibility of the TD or group running the event to place that marker correctly and articulate to the players that it is being used. If they don't do that, it creates confusion and varied outcomes. We were all caught up in the sauce of the argument, so this concept wasn't clearly articulated. We all want the same thing, but ultimately, someone or some entity will be responsible for the placement and enforcement of the standard created.

I think this show has run its course. Format sucks. 90 secs way too long for most questions. Topics arent interesting at all or direct repeats from tour life or grip locked. Shut her down boys.

Just stop watching it then. I hardly ever watch grip locked anymore. Different strokes for different folks.

Considering the skill level and age of everyone on this panel. Even foundation has to admit these opinions are kind of a joke. I love Brody and Trevor but what besides the internet articles the others are reading off of makes their opinion valid in ANY WAY!? Going on my 14th year of playing and honestly listening to everyone read the stats recorded by someone else and give their less than experienced, and way less than professional opinions is entertaining because of how big of a joke they are. I could just watch a recap and say EXACTLY what these "experts" concluded but as an experienced player I want true and gritty experienced nuance not chat gpt. I'd love to see the three strangers throw. Form will show me/everyone all we need to know

This is an opinion show! You got the qualifications right but it’s a fan opinion show as in people stirring on bar stools talking. I think you need to stick to Charlie and Josh and their overly long worded slow explanations of everything to make themselves appear so intellectual.
