Also - 1) improve your microbiome with lots of fibre types. It makes compounds that lower inflammation. 2) lower Visceral fat, plenty of tips online 3) Turmeric with pepper. 4) Berries. I worked out Sulforaphane in red cabbage is cheapest. I used to sprout broccoli. Also get a ton of polyphenols in red cabbage. I blend the cabbage and heat it to 40C for 10 mins to max out Sulforaphane. I also add a small amount of ground mustard just in case I heat it too much. I also add the mustard to cooked Cruciferous veg to max its Sulforaphane. After blending the red cabbage I leave it for 30 mins as that also helps.

@@andrewnorris5415 How do you improve the cabbage for the porridge?
@andrewnorris5415Ай бұрын
@@NellyFernandez-ow3if same way, blend the cabbage first in a blender with some water. Putting a little ground mustard seed in. Then it stand for 40 mins in the blender cup to give the myrosinase enzyme time to fully convert glucoraphanin into sulforaphane. After that, you can heat the broccoli without worrying as much about losing the enzyme, since the sulforaphane has already formed. But I usually stick to 40C anyway, but really do not need to. Especially if have the mustard in which helps too. I then put the blended with water cabbage into a pan and add enough oats to thicken it to taste then heat it up. If it gets too thick I just add more water! If not sweet enough can add usual fav fruits.
@andrewnorris5415Ай бұрын
Just avoid banana as that would wipe out most of the polyphenols which we also get in red cabbage in high amounts! bonus!

In the beginning of this year (2024), I was diagnosed with IBD (UC). One of my first conversations with one of my doctors (a professor in gastrointestinal disease) was like this: Me: "What food do you recommend eating or avoiding in order to reduce inflammation?" Doctor: "No particular food." Me: "But we can agree that sugar must be avoided?" Doctor: "There is no evidence for that." This contradicts everything I have been able to find in the scientific literature and what many, many other doctors (also on KZbin) say. Obviously, I don't trust him! I have asked three of my doctors (specialized in gastrointestinal disease) the same question about sugar. Their answers were the same!

She missed a few critical ones: 1. Avoid processed foods, not only refined sugars/carbs. 2. Eat lots of fiber in the form of vegetables and legumes 3. Add key foods associated with low inflammation, e.g., turmeric, garlic, cloves More broadly, the higher the percent of calories that come from whole-foods, plant-based sources, the lower the inflammation. The higher the natural fiber content, the lower the inflammation. Reducing meat consumption and opting for plant-based protein sources, also reduces inflammation. 4. Also, sleeping well.

Only 4% of the US population is vegan, so he doesn't want to state that plant-based protein is healthier than animal protein, but the evidence is clear. You can't eat "protein" by itself, you have to eat the whole food which contains protein. In that sense, a plate of lentils is far superior than a piece of lean chicken.

A good high quality Curcumin supplement should definitely be on the list, probably top 3. I do time restricted eating, roughly 8-10 hour window of eating, I still eat before bed sometimes within an hour, I still do a moderate amount of sugars, but am a high level athlete and workout maybe 10-13 hours weekly very intense. I’m 43 and my crp and other inflammatory markers are so low in my bloodwork they’re almost off the unmeasurable. So while I do some of this I still consume moderate sugars and have numbers that low. I would credit that to exercise, fasting, and Curcumin in that order. Number 4 would be a NMN or NR supplement. And the most important that makes all this go is good sleep and sunlight, if you’re working third shift and want low inflammation you need a new job or schedule.

Are you male or female? All I can say is that will catch up to you and it happens QUICK. From your description I was similar but once I hit 50s,menopause, everything changed in about a year. Inflammation high, and blood sugar high. On the outside you couldn't tell but if I continued on that path it would have been a quick downhill slide. Cutting carbs and sugar dramatically dropped both those. I was even getting joint pain and that's gone to. If you're male it will also catch up to you at 50. They don't call age 54-56 widow maker years for nothing. At a certain point your body can no longer do what it did in 30s/40s. You damage that mitochondria.

Chronic Inflammation and Acure Inflammation are two different things or events. A way to think about it is Acute Inflammatuon protects you while Chronuc Inflamation harms yiu and is the enemy. An example of Acute Inflammation would be when a scab forms on your leg after you fall or cut yourself - Inflammation is your bidues defense and protection and healing response at the sight of the injury. Chronic Inflammation is technically the same response but it is when the Inflammation response DOES NOT turn off. Rheumatoid Arthritis is an example of Chronic Inflammation. Think of it as the bodies immune response on steroids and it won't turn off. Very dangerous. You can check fir Inflammation by getting a Crp or C reactive protein test. Dr. Gregor is heavily biased, will frequently cherry-pick studies, misinterpret and jump to conclusions prematurily. Kinda sad, would love me some more unbiased and objective vegan resources. Not that I'm a vegan but I like to get different views.

I’ve become a bit confused on fish oil supplement since this headline came out: “New research from the Smidt Heart Institute shows more than 1 gram of fish oil a day can increase risk of atrial fibrillation” How do we know whether we should or shouldn’t take it as a supplement (eating salmon etc seems to be just fine, just the supplementation)? The study basically says if known heart disease, the can take it, but it you don’t have heart disease it increases risk of AFIB. wish someone would do a thorough followup study so we mere mortals could have some marching orders.

Don't go over 840 mg dose is the recommendation.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Can I ask where you found/head that number, so I can do some research? Thanks again.
@rbt5785Ай бұрын
I can give you the answer from personal experience. 35 years old with Afib for 2 decades. Every dose or brand of supplementation results in increased Afib episodes. I can eat any amount of an actual salmon without any of these same issues. If you ask me, it probably points to quality issues in supplementation

I can tell you how they measure it, is by checking your CRP (C-Reactive Protein) in the blood.

Dr. Patrick, I am very healthy, follow a pescatarian whole food diet and avoid refined sugar altogether and workout 6x per week, but was just diagnosed with a sheath tumor inside my main nerve that runs down my lower body and surgery to remove it could leave me unable to walk properly as it would likely damage the nerve. But the tumor is growing and bothers me. It presses against the nerve and causes discomfort and pain I already take sulforaphane and black seed oil and turmeric and cbd. Is there anything else I can take to help reduce or shrink a tumor in terms of inflammation etc?

No! Get the surgery before it causes permanent nerve damage!!!
@johnulcerАй бұрын
@@BestLifeMD The doctor told me removal would likely result in an inability to ever walk properly again and I’d never be able to run. She advised against surgery unless I absolutely can’t function anymore and the pain becomes too much.

@@johnulcer oh, you said "could" previously which would obviously be a risk with any surgery near a nerve. My comment assumed it was growing and was continuing to compress your nerve.

Put broccoli into bowl of vinegar diluted with water, as soon as you get home from the grocery store. Leave it there for 10 minutes. That will get ride of the broccoli bacteria risk from the prep and store display. Same with cauliflower.

A little heads up on a new for 2024 certified organic broccoli sprout seed from Johnny's Selected Seeds. Sano Verde Max Organic brocolli sprouting seed is freshly grown organically and has been tested for E.Coli and Salmonella. "Unique variety selected for consistent and high levels of glucoraphanin, a precursor to the widely studied, powerful antioxidant sulforaphane. Developed in a traditional breeding program over 20 years." I've been growing Johnnys brocolli sprouts for years and can attest that it is VERY sharp and spicy. Johnny's is an employee owned and operated organic seed company in Maine.

Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences. There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese. What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications. Heart attacks were once only common in people over 65. Today people in their 40 are having heart attacks. Add more plants and vegetables to your diet and less junk and overly processed foods Get off the couch. Get off the iphone or ipad. Get up and go for a walk, run, bike ride , garden, work outside. Move more, sit less.
