Even though our tastes in pens doesn't overlap very much I really enjoy videos like this. You may want to consider an Edison pen for your collection, I really enjoy that brand. And by the way, you don't have too many pens, you just have too few cases! 😉
@MartinMadeCo Жыл бұрын
Yes! Too few cases! I like the way you think 😆 I’ve seen Edison pens around so I’ll definitely take a closer look now. Thanks for the recommendation

Woman! lol. This is so fun! I’m exploring fountain pens for the first time. I have some cheapies from Amazon on the way. The TWSBI Eco and a Pilot Kaku-something. 😂 I need to learn more about inks. Can’t wait to check out your playlists! ❤

Hahaha! I’m glad you’re loving it! Inks can be as addicting as the pens so be safe out there 😂

I have 19 pens in my collection currently and I'm always wanting to add more lol. I have a big case for all of mine and since it isn't even half full yet I keep thinking I need more even tho I really don't. I have 3 Jinhaos (one x750 and two 87s), two Ferris Wheel Press pens (one is a Carousel, the other is actually a Roundabout rollerball that I modded and put a Kaweco nib on), one Caran D'Ache 849, a Kaweco Sport, 4 Pilots (Metropolitan, Kakuno, Prera, Petit1), one TWSBI Eco, 2 Sailor PGS, and 4 Pelikan M205s. I'm sorry that your Prera dries out! I've never had that happen with mine, sometimes I'll leave it on my desk for weeks untouched and it always starts up fine. I wonder if the cap just doesn't seal right on yours? 🤔 mine seals almost too well and it causes the same kind of nib creep that my Metropolitan gets. I love your collection!! You can never have too many pens in my opinion, I always say the more the merrier. The only time I say it's a bad thing is when you can't decide what pen to use or you don't have any joy for them anymore. Anything that doesn't spark joy needs to go, it's why I'm contemplating giving away my Jinhao x750 and my Pilot Petit1 just so that I have space for other pens to add to my collection. The Jinhao is too large and heavy for me since I havw such tiny hands and the Pilot I just don't like for whatever reason but because either are very cheap I keep hanging onto them. Anyways, you've got quite a few on my list and I'm glad to hear that you like them! My wallet is definitely in danger lol. You not knowing what's inked and what's not is such a mood omg 😭 I'd be an absolute wreck if I had to make one of these videos and I have less pens in my collection lmao. A Pilot Kakuno was my first ever "real" fountain pen. I'd gotten some disposable ones before some unbranded ones from Amazon as well as the Pilot Varsity pens. I loved them so much it got me into fountain pens. But yeah, the Pilot Kakuno in clear with an EF nib was my first ever "real" fountain pen! Highly recommend that one to everyone. Sometimes you can even get it cheaper on amazon, the clear one I frequently see on sale there and it makes me contemplate buying another 😂 My top 3 pens is my Pilot Metropolitan, my Sailor PGS and my Pelikan M205, I love those pens so much, I'd replacd them if I lost them because I love them so much. My Metro holds sentimental value to me too because my mom got it for me as a gift.

I love my Platinum Curiidas pen. You may want to soak it for a few minutes in Pen flush to get rid of the ink. Thanks for sharing.
@MartinMadeCo Жыл бұрын
After this video, I’d did try soaking it in pen flush and that worked great. There’s still a bit of residue in the barrel so I plan to soak it again the next time I clean out the pen. Thanks for watching and thanks so much for the suggestion!

Thanks so much Sonia! I do have a few videos inking different pens for my planners and journals each month. I do talk about which ones I prefer for different reasons in those videos. You can find them in my fountain pen playlist.

Such a beautiful collection! My plan is to buy that demonstrator Pilot 823, but I have to wait until Christmas. I have 3 823s now...lol and it is just my favorite fountain pen ever so far. The Pilot VP is such a great fountain pen do to the ease of use while I am out. You have the Kaweco that I am so sorry that I missed out on and that is the brown one sorry forgot the name..lol. Thank you for sharing.
@MartinMadeCo Жыл бұрын
Hi Donna! 3 823s means you’re definitely a fan 😆 I do love how you get multiples of favorites but in different nib sizes. I think that makes a lot of sense. The brown Kaweco is the golden espresso. And I don’t want to be an enabler but I’m sure I’ve seen this one for sale in the past few months at some smaller fountain pen retailers so it’s still out there to add to your collection! 😆

I only have 17 because I've sold quite a few. I plan on buying a few gold nib pens that's why I decided to sell some pens and some were just not my cup of tea and I want other people to be able to enjoy them. I love your collection though!

Nice collection. I prefer the Girologio case over the Galen. I have both. The metal zipper teeth bother me on the Galen.. i'm afraid as I pull the pen out of the loop it might be scratched by the metal teeth.

Thanks for showing your collection, we have some of the same pens. I really like the customization you have done to your passport. I think the word you were thinking of for the ink on the nib is “nib creep.” I’ve tried to not let it bother me. And there is no such thing as too many. Unless it gets to a point you can’t enjoy them, then that might be too many. I’d m afraid to count mine anymore. But I really should.
@MartinMadeCo Жыл бұрын
Yes, nib creep! That’s the the term I couldn’t remember. Thanks! 😊

Lovely collection, I have some of those pens like the Estie Nouveau Bleu and the Evergreen… and the Cola is on the way, just found it 2nd hand. ;) I don‘t think there‘s a limit to a collection, that‘s really subjective and everyone should decide for themselves. I have about 350… and I‘m fine with that… just like I‘m fine with people just having 20 and inking up only 3 at a time - but that‘s a different question. ;) Do you have a Pelikan in your collection ? I can‘t remember seeing one… you should try one of their cheaper steel nib piston fillers… M200 or M205 - they are really good. Then there‘s Leonardo, I love my Momento Zero Grande Sand. And an Opus 88 should also go on your list as well as a Laban 325. ;) Oh, and a Lamy 2000 perhaps ? :D
@MartinMadeCo Жыл бұрын
Kirsten, it sounds like you’re going to get me into trouble….but the good kind of trouble 😂 I don’t have a Pelikan but I’ll definitely put the ones you suggested on my list. I’ve always been curious about the Lamy 2000 and I’ve been deciding between adding that or the Pilot E95S to my collection next. And 350 pens!!! 🤯 A video on your collection might take a couple hours but I’d definitely sit through the whole thing 😂 Thank you so much for watching!

After I got the Platinum 3776 I started reevaluating my collection because I wasn’t drawn to using much else and ended up selling more than half of my collections so I’m down to 13. I kept a Kaweco brass, a couple Esties, a couple 3776, a few Benus and two of the rose gold TWSBI 580s in smoke and white. I have a Galen 20 pen case so that’s my maximum, but too many is subjective 🤷🏾♀️
@MartinMadeCo Жыл бұрын
Too many is subjective, indeed. But you make a great point. If I’m not using some of the pens, that’s a sure sign that I might as well let them go to better homes.
@ichirofakename Жыл бұрын
My experience is similar to yours, and possibly many others. Once I got a Sailor Pro Gear, I questioned all the lower-end pens I had previously purchased. I got rid of about half my collection, and plan eventually to get down to 24, but it's hard cause I'm attached to every one of my 46.
@MartinMadeCo Жыл бұрын
Definitely! Once you have pens that provide a better writing experience, you’re really not interested in using anything else. I think streamlining your collection to only those you love is a great idea

I love seeing BLACK (all Diaspora) fountain pen and stationery content creators. We enjoy and use fine writing instruments too. My current collection contains the following: 1 x TWSBI Eco-T 1 x Jinhao 82 3 x Pilot Kakuno I prefer finer nibs so the Japanese (e.g. Pilot Kakuno) made pens are my go to. A Japanese is the equivalent of a Western nib. Jinhao are dupes of the Japanese Sailor Pro-Gear fountain pens. The extra fine Jinhao is the equivalent of a 0.38mm rollerball or gel pen.
