@2:35 Ange Ball: "Having these large distances between players is incredibly risky because if you lose it, nobody is going to recover." Correction: There is one person who will be able to recover, and that's Van de Ven. The man can teleport around the field, from making huge defensive plays to assisting goals. When he's playing, Tottenham can play Ange ball to their hearts content. He's possibly the best signing they've made in years.

Also for this game according to Pedro Porro's SofaScore heatmap he went up a bit, but he was mostly between the center half (mostly behind it in our final third) . Compared to his heatmap in Newcastle where he and Udogie was mostly in the Newcastle final third. So, it seems Porro basically went a bit behind then his usual position. He can create a back three for defending.

The only thing that worries me as a spurs fan is the injuries... if there's any more injuries then we can easily become vulnerable. We do have young players but they lack experience in the top flight. So yeah... if we go without injuries then we might have a good chance to be at least top 4
@mauddib1761Ай бұрын
Yeah agree, I think the squad is quite light in quality already. I think the attack is probably one of the weakest in terms of depth and quality of any team chasing European places (including Brighton and West Ham in that too). Solanke and Son are good (although Son is getting older and doesn't always suit the system that well when he plays on the left), Johnson has looked good recently but can be frustrating (if we want to challenge for trophies I think he'll ultimately be a good rotation option or impact sub, but Spurs need at least 2 first-team ready wide forwards/wingers if they want to push on) Mickey Moore might end up being amazing but he's only just turned 17. The central midfield depth looks okay on paper but I'm not sure all the combinations would work, the defence is a worry as centrally the only back-ups are Dragusin/Davis and at left-back it's Davis/Spence. Spence has looked ok and I'm glad he's turned it around considering he looked doomed, but if VdV or Udioge get injured for any length of time the drop-off in quality really affects the entire playstyle epecially with VdV's speed. Also for some reason they picked 4 goalkeepers instead of having Spence in Europe so there are even fewer options to rotate in that competition to keep players fresh.
@gopikishanmurmu8450Ай бұрын
@@mauddib1761 whatever concerns that I had... You had pointed it out brilliantly. The only thing that can break this team is the injuries. We need more solid backups.. but that will cover it out once our new signings and youngsters get the experience. Gray and bergvall played well and others need gametime and confidence to make it a solid team. The main concern for this team will be what will happen if VdV gets injured. I mean that he's so fast in recovering the ball that I fear that hamstrings will get damaged.... And the leg injuries are the thing that every footballer fears. IMO, I think Romero can be covered but VdV can't be replaced ( the amount of saves that he has done due to his speed is unmatched ).

Spurs supporter here, I would say, this game we did everything we have been meaning to do but was not clinical enough to do at Leicester away, Newcastle, and Arsenal at home. We were unlucky, to not have scored more, it should have been 7-0. So for me, I am happy, but at the same time. Beating a United like this is really nothing to boast about. We need to be even more ruthless since our goal is to win the Europa this season. We definitely can, we simply need to keep our rotation going, and alleviate as much of the stress from all the games for most of our starters. I pray for our players to stay healthy till the end of the season. I'm looking at, at least top 5 in the league if not 4. I would not mind another Europa league season, if that's what it takes for us to get our acts together. I really think the real turning point was Coventry away. I thank that game, since that was the start to this whole blissful few weeks. We are eating at the moment, and I'm excited to feast even more. Dominic Solanke really became a shadow lurking in the dark as of recent. I'm so glad

United fan for 47 years. There are ZERO inaccuracies in Adam's analysis here. Without spelling it out in the most basic of ways, this clearly demonstrates that BOTH the manager and the club captain do NOT have the tactical nous, nor the leadership skills required to steer this squad effectively. The manager should be replaced immediately and the captain should be sacked too. I WAS on board with EtH's strategy when he initially wanted to build a pressing identity at United but it clearly isn't working. It is so messy right now that you are not sure whether the coach failed to give clear or right instructions or the players couldn't understand the instructions or they failed to execute the instructions or they have no understanding with each other so the instructions are failed to be executed. United looks like they don't have clear identity but this only happens since Rangnick took over where they started to build a team that plays like an elite team (high pressing). Rangnick is a man that obviously have clear philosophy of what he wants his teams to play yet failed to do so in United. You could say that it was the players' fault at that time. However, the same things happens now with ETH where he got his sets of players. I don't understand anymore.

that screengrab of the red card captures the moment After Brunos studs had raked across Maddison's leg. At this point the foul is already done. Watch the whole foul and you'll see Bruno slip, then lunge out studs first and catch Maddison under the knee - to me thats a very obvious red
@libertarian2112Ай бұрын
I'm not sure that it's an obvious red, but the fact that he kept stretching with his leg after slipping tips it easily into soft red territory. Deliberate and reckless, even if the outcome was mild.
@43quinАй бұрын
I have to agree and I'm baffled how many people seem to think it's not a red purely on the basis that he didn't mean to do it. Intent isn't necessarily the deciding factor in these situations, red cards can still be given if the incident was dangerous, like in this case. Bruno may not have meant to catch Maddison that high up on the leg but he still intended on the challenge itself, and the fact that he slips and loses all control of the challenge makes the whole thing worse, not better. Far too many people seem to think that catching someone halfway up the leg is fine as long as they didn't mean to do it 😆

Midfielders do that all the time at Man City, Liverpool, etc. The problem is when united do it the other players don’t fill up the space forward the left open. Basically their lines are all over the place when attacking that’s why it’s the only ‘big’ team that when losing the ball are far off their markers and it’s too risky to apply pressure. Have you seen Man City when losing the ball when attacking? They are so close to their markers quickly close them down. Basically ten sack has no philosophy or style of play and players are confused.

MUFC need to do the basics, then build on that. They are busy with tactics when they don't even have any team rhythm. 1. Don't give up the center space. All 11 are responsible for it. 2. When in posession there should always be 2 passing options. If you see those options are covered it is your job to become another passing option. 3. If u ever get to the opposing box SHOOT. As long as you pit it on frame eventually good things will happen. Done. Gimme EtH's job.

Some great points and observations. However, for me that much detail is not required to highlight the biggest issue in that first half. In simple terms the biggest downfall was the sheer amount of times utd players had poor touch, poor passes, and loss of possession when they weren't under serious pressure from spurs. This left them chasing back and chasing their tails. Watch the first half back and you'll see how often that happened, from supposedly top class professionals. Simple loss of possession.

9:45 This is the exact problem with Man Utd. Arne Slot said it in one of his first interviews - "forget about tactics if you can't win your duels". Man Utd's attitude was shocking in this game. You can sack ETH and bring any top manager but unless you fix this attitude, you are not going to get anywhere.
@Aarya-v5nАй бұрын
ETH had major fault, he setup them poorly, but these players just have no desire. Never seen Havertz, Saka, Martinelli stop chasing the ball. Salah at 32 does more than Rashford. Neither Rashford nor Garnacho tracked back after losing the ball to Van de Ven. Dalot just stopped tracking Johnson for the goal, and it was just the 3rd min. You could bang your head as a coach, but desire can't be taught. Still, it's mostly on ETH. People thinking Tuchel or Nagelsmann will work magic, they need to be cautious because Man United players and gegenpressing are antonyms. Under Ragnick, we pressed for 30 mins against Palace and never did it again.
@EddyGonzalez1509Ай бұрын
Maybe the attitude is because of the manager?
@GuttsdoyleАй бұрын
@@Aarya-v5n Been saying it and saying it. They should get Keane on staff to privately and publicly humiliate these pre-Madonna's. Their is no fear of these embarrassing performances from the players because the standard is now so low, we are celebrating slightly above average efforts in draws with Palace. Their egos need to be broken and those that haven't got the heart or bottle to play at the most scrutinized football team in the world shown the exit.
@Aarya-v5nАй бұрын
@@EddyGonzalez1509 Ofc, Manager has a role. Even the mental aspects are partially on ETH but if a team needs this external motivation, then the players need to be questioned. Wearing a Man United jersey and playing at OT doesn't need any more motivation. Ironically, in ETH's 1st season only, I have never seen us with so much energy and spirit, we didn't lose a game at OT after Brighton and Sociedad, all those comeback wins against Barca, City, in the FA Cup rounds. Everything just vanished. It's seriously incredible we have reached here after the end of 1st season's optimism.
@Aarya-v5nАй бұрын
@@Guttsdoyle We should do something of that sort fr!! Because an avg team with a strong mentality will always beat a lethargic and unmotivated so called better team, the best example being 1-1 draw with Twente. Eriksen said, They simply wanted it more. I mean ETH is at fault but no manager should be required to provide motivation in every game, and if he has to then it's the failure of the players. And if you notice, whenever we get in a new manager, we improve the results, the mood changes and then in the 2nd season, things start to dampen. Why's that, it isn't necessarily because the manager has abruptly went clueless and lost his tactical acumen, it's because all that mental motivation with the arrival of the new manager has died out by the 2nd season. Let's bring in Nagelsmann or Tuchel, I still doubt whether we will be title challengers within 2 seasons, because of this very reason and our reactionary fanbase won't be patient with the new manager.

thank you Adam, your analysis, as always, are spot on. as a united fan, the only thing I can do is watch the train wreck unfold, knowing that sacking ETH and paying his severance package will probably mean united will violate financial fair play regulations and get point deductions
@elnuffioАй бұрын
I think about United's previous match against Crystal Palace where they created lots of chances, didn't take any, and Palace fixed their vulnerability at half time. In this case, Spurs score with their first attack of each half and Fernandes gets sent off. You sort of saw that adjustment from United in the period they were on top, but the damage had already been done and once again, they couldn't convert any of their chances. While goals (and sendings off) clearly do change games, it can't be coincidence that United keep coming out second best in these crucial moments. There were a few moments (including right before Van de Ven's run and assist) where the ball could have broken either way and Spurs always seemed to win it. That strikes me as a mental thing-no team is so unlucky as to consistently fail to “get the bounce”.

Great video, but the field lines always annoy me. The 18 yard box should be 3 times as far from the goal line as the 6 yard box.

Ten Hag is done. I've wanted him sacked for almost a year. It's been obvious for a quite a long time that he needed to go. I couldn't understand why the fanbase started going crazy after the final. We have played pretty poorly since the Carabao Cup win in 22/23.
