@@zainarif1654 Why not actually read my comment before knocking it down? I said, "I wonder........compensate in some way". My rationale being that in our last two games without the skipper, we have had little, if any control,, and had to resort to lobbing long balls. On top of which Partey has been awful, too slow in moving the ball, lost his trademark passing accuracy. Been a liability. Calafiori has some experience of playing defensive midfield, and is known for driving the full length of the field. He would offer a lot more than Partey has been doing, and provide a presence that none of the rest of the squad offers. The only player with qualities similar to Odergarrd is Nwanieri. But Mikel is clearly reluctant to play him more than a few minutes so far. Calafiori has the ability to give us some forward thrust, which is sorely lacking in the absence of Odegarrd.

Good video, fair assessment and I agree we were one decent finish away from a big win against a side that battered LFC and Leverkusen. This is somewhat true, but we need more midfield technicians, I thought we should've gone for Fabian ruiz. @@anthonymuhoho5037 So who in the current squad do you see as Odegaard's sub assuming everyone is healthy?
@VRed224Ай бұрын
Great analysis, Clery. Well done. Odegaard is irreplaceable in Arsenal's current system. The only viable solution seems to be altering the formation and style of play, which Arteta has been handling quite well. However, such adjustments could come at a cost. That's why I was surprised to see Vieira go out on loan and Smith Rowe sold, as they were our closest alternatives to Odegaard. Our remaining, albeit risky, options include: - Playing Nathan Nwaneri in Odegaard’s role. - Deploying Jorginho, Partey, and Rice together in midfield. - Shifting to a 4-4-2 diamond formation, with Partey or Jorginho as 4, Rice and Jesus in the middle and Kai as the midfielder at the front. The remaining two will be two of Trossard, Saka and Martinelli. Kai is very good at gaining aerial duels. We need him at the middle upfront now than ever.

Odegaard is the player arsenal needs to get those 90+ point seasons. He gives the team so much control in posession while also always progressing the play forward. I'd argue that even with Odegaard in the team, a strong striker would do Arsenal a world of good. Having someone in the mold of Isak/Gyokeres/Osimhen up top and a midfield of Rice, Odegaard, Havertz would significantly improve them.

@TheKingSkillsBW67Ай бұрын
Arsenal don’t need a striker! But it’s understandable why people ask for one. Thats because they understand OTHER teams more than they do Arsenal. Arterta prioritizes scoring with his wingers (the wingers are our goalscorers) and they have so far been able to deliver. City don’t have a better 1st team than Arsenal. It’s their deep quality bench that they won the league with. Their rotation means they never drop performances because of a deep bench. While Arsenal drop performances markedly when our key players start to get tired towards the end. That’s where and when City pass. Has nothing to do with goals! Why does City have the same Goal Difference (62) with Arteta’s Arsenal last season. Where did we score the goals from and who then can claim City score better than us? 🤷🏽♂️ If we tried to have the same deep quality bench like City, we’d break FFP and PSR. So we’ll add these players gradually until we have the right bench.

Letting Smith Rowe and Viera go this summer was a disaster. I think Saka has the skills and game intelligence to maybe grow into a more Odegaard-like role - but, oh wait, they let Reiss Nelson go as well, so they have no cover on the right-wing either. Odegaard is one of those few players that has an impact both offencively and defensively. He is our most creative player with his passing .he can cut our opponents apart at any time. Defencively, he is the leader of our high press. You can see that we we are defending further back than when Odegaard is in the lineup. This will and is bring more pressure on our defenders and our CDM Partey, who right now is a shadow of his former self. This next 8 weeks or more is going to be the acid test for Arteta. It is up to him to change our tactics to something that the payers we have can use to win games. For me, right now, the biggest concern is the CDM position. Partey and Jorginho are just too old to give us what we need. That was our biggest need for the summer window , not a striker. We have nothing if these 2 fail. We lost the midfield battle to many times this season already. I really fear what will happen against City on Sunday. Yes, they might have list KDB, but they have Foden to fill in . Who do we have to replace Odegaard, no one. Our summer window was a bust as we got rid of more p l ayers than we brought in again, leaving us with a too small of a squad again.

As an arsenal fan I see no plan, I'm really quite bereft Merino's shoulder's another boulder that thwarts our half space left. Life is nice with Declan Rice and Kai is superfly But we contemplate our number 8, Our Captain and main guy.

I think the main problem is more rather squad depth than anything, this injury situation we’ve just came out of kind of shows , if we had invested in the window as heavily as maybe the fan base would have liked a lot of these issues don’t arise due to people coming in and being able to fill in the gaps in personnel play styles instead of trying to convince ourselves relying on a 17 year old Ethan is the answer
@maniac9902Ай бұрын
It isn't possible to heavily invest without selling more players, who do we keep selling for more squad depth, with prices these days its 2 out for 1 in...
@jamesrutterford576Ай бұрын
In some fairness your not wrong but our squad depth has gotten better every year, our standards are just rising at a faster rate cos we’re comparing ourselves to city and madrid now. The fact that we can go away to spurs and Atalanta and not concede a goal with all these injuries suggests a level of depth we haven’t seen at arsenal in over a decade. Would’ve been nice to sign another attacker or two of course.
@zaidansari-fi8yxАй бұрын
I think the allure of getting top quality players to sign is guarantees from the club that the player will play a significant chunk of the season. Unless you're chelsea, where players sign to sit on the bench for 12 year contracts you really can't do that unfortunately.
@jjel3316Ай бұрын
@@zaidansari-fi8yx that’s fair but I’m not even talking about a xavi simmons or a gavi or anything as such as they rightfully so won’t want to play second choice but I think a more profound solution then just merino in the midfield should’ve been pursued? Players like inters conaloglu , gyokeres players happy playing at that level

Because we don’t have odegaard doesn’t mean we’re not going to play our football anymore. Get someone who can receive the ball in tight spaces and create chances in that CAM role e.g. trossard/ Nwaneri. Going long at this point just shows how scared we are

Arsenal have 1 position which is absolutely essential to their style of play. So you might think that they would have a backup if the player in that position got serioiusly injured. So what do they do? Get rid of the two players, Smith-Rowe and Veiria, who could have deputised for Odegaard. They have deputies for the goalkeeper, full backs, cenrebacks, defensive midfield, centre forward, wingers, but not an attacking creative number 8. Not too clever of Arteta.

Rice and Timber and Martinelli are all right footed so they all want to take it inside. You need a left footer there for balance in the attack. Combine that with a midfield saturated with defensive minded midfielders that aren't comfortable holding the ball and just want to release it. Not a fun watch

They score lots of goals against teams in the PL, but when it come to the CL, their attack clearly lack someone who want to score goals and is capable of doing it at a world class level, just look at the Bayern match last season or this Atalanta match . It doesn't need to be a striker, a winger is fine too. If Arsenal truly think this is enough, i have to question their ambition. They know they aren't good enough, but still decided against investing more in this team. How long are they gonna wait, how much patience do they think fans have for the club lack of success. I feel they are too rick averse in everything that they do, not only transfers but also tactics. Arteta seem to prefer defensive stability over the team's attack. For example, in the Atalanta match, Martinelli is always asked to track back, so he couldn't counter effectively and when he did have a chance, he was too tired to make the most of it. It was the reason Arsenal didn't win the league, it was the reason Arsenal lose against Bayern and it will be the reason why they won't win anything this season, maybe beyond that too.
