my grandpa was a amateur bookbinder for longer than I've been alive. He was always a bit of a quiet guy, not super eager to share his hobby with others. His house was filled with books and he had been known to disappear into the studio whenever a family event was dragging on a bit too long. I was always interested in his bookbinding, but he didn't get the chance to teach me his craft before he passed. Watching these videos reminds me of him and I'm really glad I get to learn a little bit more about him through your videos. The book is looking incredible, excited for part 4!

I had never heard of Dune before stumbling across your first rebinding of Dune video. Since then, I've listened to the audiobook as well as thoroughly enjoyed both newer movies. You opened my eyes to a whole new universe of amazing characters and stories just from your love of a classic book and your desire to share that love with the world. Thank you!

@@auntielaura5 such a bad take
@nsblur7 ай бұрын
I wholly disagree with the statement that the sequels aren’t good! If you enjoyed the first Dune, please consider continuing with at least the next 5 originally written by Frank Herbert himself! I will concur that the following books are different because they end up dealing with different ideas/problems, and eventually different characters, so they don’t follow the same thrilling “hero’s journey” type of adventure as the first. But Frank Herbert was a genius writer, and after reading Dune Messiah and Children of Dune it makes rereading the first book all the better due to you having additional context. Tldr, Frank Herbert is great and if you liked the first book you should give the following books in the series a chance!

I think the coolest thing about your channel is how clear it is that when you try new things, you're basing your ideas on an obviously intimate familiarity with your materials and their properties, so your experiments usually work out really well despite doing lots of stuff you've never tried before

The best things about this video/channel that make it stand out from others like it: 1. Calm and clear commentary explaining all of the details of the process, allowing us to truly experience the process almost as if we were making the book. 2. No music - the silence and sounds of tools being used again adds immersion 3. Long format with time spent showcasing each step and scope of time and patience required to go through all steps- again adds immersion. Overall, 10/10 video and video style. Much improved from the older videos you did without commentary. Absolutely nailed it and don't think you need to change anything to improve the format.

Very nice! One thing I might do is for second set of magnets is befor putting on the double sided tape to mark there places, is with a marking pen, put an x on each, so none get put in with the wrong polarity, pushing away, instead of pulling together after making them permanent in place.

I was very conscious to flip the magnets over from where they were stuck to the cover as I placed them into the flap. Reversing the polarity would have been very counterproductive!

I really like the idea of a bookmark made from a leather braid but the knot at the end is a bit big, a so called "mystery braid" could be better for this, as you don't actually cut the end of it so you have it the same thickness all the way through, and you can cut it into a more interesting shape as well. Regardless of that, every video you seem to one up yourself and I really look forward to the final one in this serie.

Hello Dennis, thank you for letting us glimpse into the magic of creation which you are a master of. I was so looking forward to this episode. It was riveting as well as healing. With each step I was more fascinated and more at peace inside. This tome will be dug up from hot sands one day in distant future, scuffed but preserved by the hot, desiccating air. Already, it is an artifact. The leather is alien in origin and looks hot to the touch. And the design is from a bookbinding school once taught on a different planet (and even there it is already found in ancient temples and museums only). I see it full of sand. It is a masterpiece and I am so happy we can witness its creation. Thank you, sir!

Honestly Dennis, quite apart from the actual process, which I’m watching carefully for the actual process, there’s also just how very soothing it is to watch a craftsman do what they love, and I’m in need of soothing. The 25th was the anniversary of the passing of my partner, and it’s always a difficult few days around that date, and then there was an incident in London (I’m in NZ)involving the injury of HouseHold Cavalry horses. I was a horse person in my youth so I follow a couple of YT accounts dedicated to the horses, and also lived in London for a while in my youth, and sadly two of the horses we know were involved…..so a bloody horrible few days, not to mince words. This was balm on an over sensitive soul, so thank you. Bless the maker and his water Bless the coming and going of him May his passage cleanse the world May he keep the world for his people
