for everyone with a single 16:9 monitor and a big distance to the monitor: the calculated FOV might be correct from geometry point of view but such small FOVs can be very uncomfortable with non-widescreen aspect ratio. I have 27", 16:9 with 1m distance and can assure that the suggested 19° FOV is crap. the calculator gives the lower limit, not the best setting.

My rig sits about 160cm away from my 55 inch tv in the living room. The FOV calculator gave me 24 degrees. After 2 solid hours of playing with the FOV settings, I found that 33 degrees was my ideal FOV. I did 5 laps in each 32, 33 and 34. My lap times on 33 degrees were noticeably more consistent and my top 2 fastest lap times were in 33 degrees. It's funny how that works. Maybe just coincidence. But honestly I was driving way better after dialing in the right settings on FOV and force feedback.

This happened to me today. Same rig setup and settings, fiddled with the camera for a while, and shaved off 2 tenths on Brands Hatch despite being hangover and super tired. Also improved on Misano by a second that I couldn't find for a while. But it takes some time to get used to, and maybe turn on Look with wheel, cause some tight and tricky corners like Rio or Quercia (Misano) are almost blind at first.

This is prob the best ACC channel there is so I’m reluctant to comment. But correct FOV is one of the big myths on ACC . It makes it much much much less enjoyable and harder. The website mentioned gives me 35 fov with a 38” monitor. It’s like a magnifying glass attached to my windshield. I keep testing and I am of the conclusion setting correct FOV is simply not a good idea. It’s unplayable. Find a happy balance. You need to see what’s around you and gauge speed. This is not a real car. It is a game.

My method is easier and works great: 1)Put your camera where the eyes of the driver are using distance and height modifier. 2) Put your monitor as close as your steering wheel it can be. 3) Set up fov to make the steering measure 30cm in your screen (for gt3 cars that's the standard). Adjust pitch at your liking. Done.

@superjarri
@superjarri Жыл бұрын
@@s3nTer It's much more easy to do than to explain. The things I'm looking when I do my FOV are: -You want to place the screen somewhat close to where the virtual steering wheel is. You want to feel like your real steering wheel attaches to the virtual steering column of the car. -You want your steering wheel to be the same size as the steering wheel in the game and then turn off the in game steering wheel (if possible). This is the most natural way of setting up things to me because what I have in my hands has the same scale as the things I see in screen.

For me to be able to be less than the 45 degree threshold in AC, my 24in 16:9 monitor must be at most 14 inches from my face. that seems way too close to justify my eye strain and being able to see my side mirrors. @@RacingPotato12 Mathematically correct doesnt mean usefull. Yes you should get as close as possible the the correct fov, but not without compromises. I once ran on a 22" 1m away (yes early days). The calculated fov was so narrow that i couldnt see shit and 200 felt like 5. And you ofc miss ever braking point, every apex, etc... So correct fov is not always the correct way to play, its more like an orientation. The bigger your screens get and the more you have, and the closer you sit, THEN (but only maybe then) you can use the 1:1 mathematically correct fov. I played with a triple screen and using the correct fov there feels way more natural than on a single screen. It just doesnt work.

For Assetto corsa (and ACC) use vFov. Using the calculator hFov in AC is wrong. Some game engines use vfov, some hfov. IMO a good suggestion is to put the monitor as close to the wheel as possible, calculate the correct fov, and set this in the game (at least no more than 20% deviation).

@@perludierende_praesumtion It isn't low if it's correct though. For example 26 vFov is correct for a 24inch monitor at around 65cm or 37 vFOV is correct for a 32inch monitor at around 60cm. Hello Overtake, I just found out, that the FOV calculators are ALL WRONG!!! You do not need a calculator. Just sit down in your rig, set the in game seat on zero vertical and horizontal... and now let the magic happen... Grap the wheel... look to the horizon... adjust ONLY the fov to the point of immersion when it looks like your own hand on the ingame wheel in your peripherial view... BAM!!! Start the engine and FEEL THE MAGIC!!! NOTE: My FOV calculator said a FOV would be correct... 50 inch 21:9 screen and eyes 82 cm away in AMS2 71 degree... and from car to car I had to adjust the seat... This works, but try the other way... THE IMMSERION STARTS HERE!!! Now my FOV is between 100 and 104... And it is far easier to hit the apexes.... Please let me know if you understood ... I am willing to explain... sorry, but the video is not correct the way it explains the fov change... and lead me to hundreds of hours driving with a complicated adjusting to the "correct fov" which lead to a less correct and immersive driving experience... The FOV and immersion are dependend on three points on a straight line... Your Eyes, your hands, the monitor... You can then adjust the seat... TRY IT!!! NOW: Take a car and let it put a smile on your face on the Kemmel Straight when you hit the 300 kmh :-) Let's call it FEEL OF VIEW! Even with my T150 I can feel the weight distribution of the cars and these moments you are almost flying... That's a GAME CHANGER! Looking forward on your feedback.

100% agree with you my friend. I race in real world on weekends and everything happens naturally, I struggled in sim racing judging everything wrong can't even have the confidence in close racing and consistency is out of the window, my eyes are all over the place looking at braking points then the speedo to see if i'm on the right speed or on the right gear for the turn incase a compensation is needed to make the turn then scanning the radar for traffic & looking for the apex, this is not driving its just bull**** I literally just hated it. What a waste of time, effort & money. One morning out of frustration i decided to slam the 55inch screen just at the end of the steering wheel, played around with the settings to get the car dash proportions as i felt correct in real life from cars that i really own, and my god its really scary amazing, mount panorama is a dream to drive, getting paper thin to the walls throttle control is precise trail braking oh its nothing once again, & the downhill portion is epic, you literally feel the weight transfer precisely, you just feel like you are one with car, let me add, now i even don't care what my speed is even not what gear I'm in, never look at the dash anymore, eyes on the track 99% of the time, and bumper to bumper door to door racing is just sublime you know precisely where to put the car, you feel them around you. I urge every one to just try it get the largest screen you can afford place it as close as possible to the steering wheel play around with settings where everything falls into proportions, in some cases your steering might cover the in-game dash don't worry about it, just go drive. Its absolutely mind blowing. A huge game changer.

yes exactly. Trying to find "correct"/realistic fov when you only have 1 small screen is stupid, since you wont see half the stuff you should. Realistically you have close to 180 fov. Not that I recommend that on a flat screen, itll look bad and wont help, but 90 fov certainly isnt too much. Again, it depends on distance and size of monitor, also if its curved and/or have tripple

Answer one question: which racer does not know how to feel the speed? Realistic FOV does not give an idea of how fast you eat. At a speed of 250 km / h, you should feel that you will soon take off, but at FOV = 45 you are just walking in the park with a stroller. Therefore, a priori, it is impossible to qualitatively slow down and smoothly enter the turn, maintaining the necessary speed, you simply do not feel the world control of speed, everything is equally slow for you.

Hey! It actually has - the video was shot in ACC so... 😁 But anyway, just press pause in the game - head over to the view settings, where you can adjust the FoV. Hope that helps! Regards Joe

If you are on a single screen that's not a widescreen don't even bother with this. Go for immersion rather than mathematically correct FoV.

I think you havent tried. I felt the difference right away. Just put your screen as closely to your wheelbase as possible! It really helps with judgement of braking points and turning angles :)
