Idk how much he was involved with Brawl but any tournament that Melee and and S4 were in he'd be in the S4 crowd watching and cheering for his favorite players when he wasnt playing Melee. Matthew Rabon probably Ike has priority and reach. Of all the sword fighters, Ike (and cloud?) has the longest reach. A tilt up might not even hit leaves you open to get hit.

I don't think many people realize that Ike is actually good because of his weight and how hard he is to kill. Hard to kill, INTIMIDATING reach and early kill percentages. Because it takes so long to kill him, he utilizes the Rage mechanic more than most characters.

This is interesting, Salem's projectile game was so tight this tourdy, and Leo is the first player whose really done a good job calmly shielding and evading the shots. It seems like Salem actually hurts himself trying to build distance for his ranged attacks in this match. I wonder if Salem had the mindset of a brawling, melee based link coming into this if he'd done better. I had a similar situation with my friend playing link. It took me a full day before I changed my mindset and started thinking of him as a ranged character rather than a swordsman. Only then I was able to take an advantage. Maybe Salem needs to practice two different playstyles? Regardless, great tourdy, great commentary, loved the whole thing!

I don’t like how Salem chose to play his link here. All his other games he used his projectiles until the opponent closed the gap and then used Link’s fantastic Nair OOS to get them off him and reset the neutral. Rinse and repeat until kill time. He obviously doesn’t know how to deal with Ike either. You can easily punish Nair if it isn’t spaced perfectly damn near everytime. He definitely should have apply more pressure when MKLeo was off stage as well.

Articuno If you parry a Nair from Ike there is 0 chance he will be able to jump and Nair you again. Some characters could F-smash in that time frame. If you don’t parry Ike’s Nair and you have a good OOS option like Link’s Nair, you can very quickly make an Ike reconsider throwing out careless nairs.

Rewatch the match and pay attention to Leo’s aerial mixup options and cross ups. It’s not as simple as “just nair OOS lol” “man just parry.” Salem didn’t do those things because Leo made it difficult for him.

The times he did get hit in shield he punished it more often that not. Salem was not playing the MU correctly. He had been playing really safe all day and then of all characters to get aggressive with he chose IKE.

Damn!! There was a huge difference in skill level between Salem and Leo. Goes to show how Salem doesn’t stand a chance against Leo (or possibly other top level players) without his toxic Smash4 Bayonetta.

Yet, he got third at a major anyway...Look I'm not a salty Salem fan but you shouldn't discredit his skill. But yes, Mkleo was way better than Salem, I agree with that. And yes, it's possible that Salem could've been carried a bit by Bayo in S4. However, that does not mean you shouldn't acknowlegde his skill as player. He won evo with ZSS against brawl Metanight in Brawl; defintely not a trash player and is a good player. The point I'm trying to make is that Salem got carried by Bayonetta in S4(he may have struggled more in S4 than Brawl, but correct me if I'm wrong), but he is by no means some loser, or he wouldn't have been in winners finals at major, right?

Utuh _ “Major tournament” which hardly had any top players in it. I have nothing against Salem, he just isn’t a top player in my eyes. The reason being is Bc he didn’t deserve such high ranking is Smash4 Bc it was evident he only got that far Bc of Bayonetta (just like the other Bayo players such as Lima, zack, etc). In my opinion, it was Bayo who carried Salem and not the other way around. Whereas if you look at other players, they are the ones carrying the characters. Take a look at Ally for example, he is the ONLY Mario player to actually get results with the character (maybe Zenyou as well). Same thing can be said about Nairo and his Bowser, or Zero and his Diddy, or Larry and his fox, etc.

@@DarkWolfJr1000 I'm not a Bayonetta fan, but what I know is that switching mains is a very difficult thing to accomplish in Smash. Every figure plays differently and like the old kung fu man in the movie 7 Grandmasters said: You can only focus on one weapon, someone who switches mains or slacks off is gonna have a hard time, then it wil depend on his timeinvestement in the game, because the brain can't handle so many things. Whatever area one takes it takes years of skill refinement, and like people who speak up to 4 languages, only very few of them actually speak them 100% rightly and without an accent.

Two things: I like Hungrybox as an announcer. And props to Salem for taking on MKLeo with friggin Link. He may have lost but he still gets the cred. Good stuff

Link sucks...or rather, he's inconsistent. Link's new bombs are inconsistent against aggressive foes, and seem to backfire. I do love the explosion range though...but detonating it precisely distracts you from precisely moving Link, while also limiting you to 1 bomb at a time (half of the time you can't pull out a bomb because it's either falling off the cliff or the opponent has it. INCONSISTENT). The lack of his aerial clawshot also decreases range against foes with more range...like Ike (people say his grab is better, but...how many times did Link grab in this match?) I think if Salem used only Arrows and Boomerang, he'd have a better chance....or just used Young Link lol. I don't know why they didn't just add BoW Link as a new character slot (and advertise more characters!), or at least keep the old Link moveset for his classic costumes. If anything, they could have just added Dark Samus's dodge to Samus's last costume, and that would have been equivilant to what they did for Dark Samus in this game (Dark Samus as an almost excact clone was disappointing...they should have taken the Chrom/Isabelle approach and gave DS actual unique moves. At least 1 or 2.)

@@Hai_da Yeah, no kidding. No consistent bombs is a huge problem, as it was easily his best projectile. I miss clawshot too. Young Link is the answer, but not the answer I wanted since I have been maining Link since 1999 until Ultimate.
