Plan for a week to 3 weeks with NO POWER, NO WATER, NO FOOD, or NO GAS. Find a safe place for your car, like the upper levels of a parking garage, if possible. Prepare important documents, medications, dog/cat food, batteries, chargers, gasoline etc. Expect it to hit as a 1 or 2 category higher than what they are forecasting 3-5 days out.

Um yeah, no. Whoever told you that was misinformed and probably read it on wastebook or something. That info is correct ONLY for a hurricane that is tracking directly north, and that is located in the northern hemisphere of our little space rock that we call earth. If a given storm is traveling north (heading 000°) then the worst place to be would be as you stated, the northeast quadrant, but generally areas to the "right" (east) of its path will experience the highest winds. However, if a given storm is traveling east (heading 090°) then it would actually be the southeast quadrant, but generally areas "below" (south) of its path will experience the highest winds. This is because in the northern hemisphere, tropical cyclones rotate counterclockwise. This essentially causes an additive effect between the wind speed and the movement speed of the storm. So if the hurricane has 90 mph winds and is moving west at 10 mph, the worst place to be would be the northwest quadrant where the effective wind speed would be 90 + 10 = 100 mph. In the southern hemisphere, tropical cyclones rotate the opposite direction (clockwise) so therefore the reverse of what I just described would apply. Now you know!💡

If you want to see serious coverage of these storms, watch the CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corporation). For those who are under 55, America once had grown up journalism like what they have in Canada. I only listen to Brian Norcross - or Ryan Hall or Red Timmer - This forcast here will get a lot of people in trouble - I hate when they only focus on just the EYE path Helene was 400 miles wide -Do the math people! Florida will get rain probably starting Sunday into Monday with a landfall about Wednesday of the EYE - and speaking of eye I would keep a close eye on this one! I lived in Florida 20 years went through 2 CAT3s within 2 weeks - this one looks to cover the entire state from the west coast to the east coast - Norcross said 110mph and 75 when it gets to the east coast into more warm water in the Atlantic as of right now but things change - There is a cold front going through TN soon - its pushing south so hopefully possibly maybe it could speed up and push this thing more south - but anyway you look at it KEEP AN EYE ON IT - I would take an early vacation better safe than sorry drive North - Not trying to scare anyone I don't mean to but after HELENE - this one needs to be watched closely!!! The consensus as of right now is Tampa landfall but its still EARLY that is just the CENTER of the storm - I wish they would stop focusing on the damn cones and the center - it needs to be mentioned but there are ALOT of people that don't realize HOW BIG a hurricane is - they never explain that either its 2024 NEWS PEOPLE - anyone reading here GO LOOK AT the radar! the cloud cover the view from space! I swear peoples lives are impacted when you only talk about just the center of circulation or the eye! It's not just some little red twirling thing! UGH! Anyway! Please FLORIDA watch this closely look up Brian Norcross at least! He has been on KZbin FOX WEATHER is the channel - He literally saved lives when Andrew dipped South in 1992 - it was headed for Fort Lauderdale and dipped south last minute and hit Miami! Yes the center/eye is the worse part of hurricane but the entire storm can do even more damage like we have seen with HELENE! Just please do what is best for your family and stay safe out there!
