Bateman was a world class player in his prime at Wigan. He was the kind of player that never had a bad game and would always run and tackle above his size and weight, week in week out, and when he got the ball, he would make things happen. He also had immense strength for his size and would bust tackles every game. When he got that shoulder injury at the Raiders, he was never the same player afterwards. He came back to Wigan for a second spell and was nothing like the player that had left a few seasons earlier.

I was listening to talk back radio and there was an old tigers fan that wanted Bateman GONE. He gave good reasons why. He also wanted Klemmer gone as well. This was a long time fan and he was adamant that if they dont get rid of Bateman that they would want Benji out. So this makes sense to me. This was about two weeks ago

Agreed. He went from being one of, if not the best player at the club when he left, to one of the worst every week when he first returned. He never managed to get back to anything more than just average. His body looked shot. He played a lot of rugby from an early age and peaked in his early-mid twenties, a bit like Stuart Fielden. I think this combined with the shoulder injury he sustained at the Raiders, finished him off.
