Your not remembering that it’s pitch black no night vision and he was presumably KIA before ever calling in for CAS (Close Air Support) it’s a shame that you’re judging a squad leader for the mistakes of a command that ordered him to do that. It isn’t like you would’ve done anything differently also FYI CCT isn’t a navy seal they’re a support element that’s why he’s leading the way he isn’t under any of the seals command so he can make his own decisions on what to do unlike the other seals in the squadron

I viewed the CIA drone images again today and replayed this interview. Britt followed Chapman into the first bunker. They were in this bunker together for awhile fighting and Britt must have witnessed Chapman being hit twice and falling unconscious, not dead but unconscious. Britt knew this as the fighting continued. Another SEAL was hit and fell and Britt had two injured SEALs to carry back. Britt consciously passed Chapman and left him there to die. Chapman woke up and continued to fight and saved the lives of not only Britt and some of his teammates, but fought as another American plane of fighters landed. Chapman saved the life of Britt, his teammates, and others in this second American plane. Britt chose not to help Chapman and save his life.

So you clearly dont understand it was pitch black outside on steep terrain. Also in 2002 our guys had no experience at all. It wasn’t until 2005 before we started getting experience. But really 2006. Multiple delta guys got killed in the threshold basically doing what Chapman did. No matter how good you think you are. You won’t survive the threshold when the enemy is ready with a gun. Neil was dead. So they could’ve bombed it and saved the 3rd helo and lives of the troops had Chapman not went running up. We typically have to watch new guys because they will make emotional decisions thinking they are helping. But they don’t realize they’ve just eliminated our ability to call in CAS (Close air support). Once you get within feet of the enemy no aircraft will drop. In Chapman’s defense. This was 2002 when everybody was ignorant on how to really fight. So he made a emotional decision. Also they tried to tell the command this mission was a bad idea. By 2006 we wouldn’t have did this. It’s a suicide mission. The ac130 had a friendly fire incident 2 days before so they wouldn’t even stay on station. Much less shoot knowing Chapman just went in that bunker. They knew Neil was dead. But Chapman you couldn’t see him.

So basically since the Navy SEALs were I'm command of this large operation (for the first time in DEVGRUs history) they didn't want the one and only truly deserved Medal of Honor from Robert's Ridge to come from a US Air Force Combat Controller, so to protect and build their image in the "Tier 1" Special Operations Community, they tried to block TSgt Chapman from recieving the MOH and gave one to Slabinski for what exactly? (Yes I know that eventually Tsgt Chapman recieved his MOH) Please watch the entire drone footage too, you will see exactly why I am asking this question, as the "team leader" in the drone footage (Slabinski) can be seen behind Chapman the entire time.

Those who know and are in the "community" lost tons of respect for the SEALs and ST6 specifically. It's not just drone footage, there were radio calls by Chapman... after Slab had left him, plus all his ammo had been fired minus the one mag that had been damaged by enemy fire.

For some reason I don't find this man convincing. I can't speak for the rest of his career, but I know what the video from 3/4/02 shows. It doesn't show him being the real leader of that team, and it shows Chapman fighting well after the SEALS retreated. How could he have checked Chapman's vitals and decided he was dead, if Chapman was able to get up and keep fighting for 40+ minutes, after the SEAL retreat? It makes very little sense. They were there to recover a fallen SEAL. Why was Chapman, an Air Force CCT, clearly the aggressor and leader of the operation, when he was with a team of SEALS?

If you are familiar with what happened and listen to the other soldiers and airman accounts of what they saw and heard are much different from his story. There is video footage from the drone of his team leaving Chapman while he is still firing and talking on the radio. How do you explain that? I still respect what he did that night and the rest of his service as we all should. It's not a matter of proving him wrong, it's simply asking him what happened. @@JRAT777 That's not entirely accurate. Chapman was shot by a *Mortar* round, which knocked him out. His team saw him take a *mortar* round to the chest, go down, then not get back up... they thought he was dead. The Seal Team then continued to engage the enemy, taking rounds from multiple directions before one man was hit with shrapnel and thrown off a bunker; 10ft fall. The Team Leader regrouped the men and they made the call to back out due to the intensity of the firefight. Chapman regained consciousness alone on the mountain then reengaged the enemy. He is a Hero, but for that woman to question their decision shows how little class she has. Maybe she should join the military.
@JRAT777

@@tyriongambly3134 i'm not sure where you are getting this info you should do a little more research before just posting what you think is accurate. If you were aware of the whole back story then you would know why she asked those questions. She respectfully addressed the elephant in the room. You are obviously not aware of who this "woman" is. I would be willing to be she has been to more war zones than you have. It still amazes me that a report cant ask questions about the incident for which he is getting the MOH. He agreed to the interview. He knew what was going to be asked. His story has changed multiple times, his team mates stories have changed. The video contradicts his story. There were others that heard the radio traffic from Chapman. This is not a simple story of bravery for which he is being awarded the MOH. The back story is nuanced and I recommend you actually do your research or talk to those who actually know what happened. Even your account of what happened differs from what Slab says he did. Look I love and cherish the brave men that fight for the freedoms of this country and am grateful for all they do, but sometimes you need to call a spade a spade. That doesn't take away from their service but there are some glaring inconsistencies in the stories being told. I'm not going to respond to any further comments just do some research and talk to those who actually know what happened.

As tough as it was to watch this after seeing countless video and “screen” play with the history channels Warfighters. The SEALS lost Neil Roberts, the mountain became Roberts Ridge, don’t feel it’s his fully. This dude stepped out first like a leader but no man could have stopped John Chapman. He pushed through that snow like a warrior and this man didn’t catch him until Chapman was already 1-2 mags down into the fight. Once Chapman was hit this man did check him seeing no life, that was when the SEALS tried to make a stand on the bolder and were unsuccessful due to a shrapnel from a grenade causing them to have multi injuries and no longer able to be affective Force in the fight. Was at this time they left not only their SEAL Roberts but CCT Chapman as well to regroup. This comes to show in times this dude did what he did in a moment you or I never will understand because we weren’t there. I understand him, his actions, though I don’t agree. I don’t feel the MOH is something he should wear but a silver star is more inline. Both his story, history channel “war fighters” episode “Roberts Ridge” both left out Chapman and his Valor that day. THE Rangers brought both Neil and Chapman down from the ridge . Something also was left out. PJ SRA Cunningham saved 5 Rangers while mortally wounded but still fighting doing his job of rendering aid. This is something Peter Berg needs to produce on the big screen to showcase Air Force Special Ops and their service. Mean why not, has SEALS, RANGERS and CCT AND PJ all in one movie. No need to bad mouth this dude. He made a choice, he now lives with it. More then you or I have to live with..

I understand things got out of control, and I dont blame him for leaving two brothers behind for the time being because he thought they were KIA. As a leader, he decided to try to save the men he had left, some of whom were seriously injured, but what i can't forgive is him claming he was the one who charged that bunker. He stole Johns heroic actions and lied blatantly in many videos about the incident. He was brave, and his actions were heroic. He charged up behind John and then continued fighting until his teammate was blown off the boulder. That takes unbelievable courage and bravery. The truth was outstanding, He risked all to try and save one of his brothers. Why not just tell the truth? By lying and dishonoring John, he posined this story. It breaks my heart.

The head on a platter charge is really , & I mean really reaching for scandal. He didn’t order that literally, neither did the other few hundred commanders who used phrases & terms to make their point to their men. That simply means, “I want the enemy taken out.” Which is what we were ordered to do, eliminate them. Trying to tarnish Slab’s military record & so many others by really reaching to take a phrase they used before an Op & twist into some act of evil is disgusting & pathetic. But seeing Jennifer Griffin ask Slab this is no surprise, the only service members she kisses up to & showers with praise are the Cake Eater Generals & Colonel’s that sent operators & soldiers into situations they knew they shouldn’t be sending them. If you were not on that mountainside that early morning then maybe don’t question or place blame on any of the operators who actually lived it that day. See how well you do under heavy machine gun, rpg & mortar fire from an entrenched, overwhelming number of enemy fighters who have the high ground with bunkers to conceal them. I honestly believe Slab thought Chapman was deceased & knew he had wounded men under heavy fire & that he was in a bad location & needed to reposition fast.

It's always those that dare not step foot on the battlefield that feel free to criticize. Your criticism means nothing to the brave men and women that defend this nation. The Seals actions that day were meant to ensure survival of the group against superior odds and live to fight another day. They have nothing to feel ashamed of. Chapman would not have given his life for these men if he felt it was in vain. Those that have never put on a uniform and stood up for their nation are irrelevant to the argument and should remain silent. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I, send me."

Even if he knew that Chapman had a little life left in him, if he thought retrieving him would get more men killed then you can’t say he did the wrong thing. I know we all like to believe in leave no man behind but that was not the first time an American has been left under fire to save the lives of others and unfortunately it won’t be the last. She makes it sound like he should of picked up his cell phone and texted the pilots.... these guys are the BEST of the BEST. out numbered, out gunned, and they STILL went back. We all have lost a brother in arms if your in the business long enough. It never gets easier, you just gotta keep going. That’s what they did. They fought. War is hell. Most people are too ignorant due to all the movies and games these days. Sure, they have bits and pieces of it. Well, the video proves that you were indeed more than 20, or 30 feet away from him as you again left him behind on that mountain to fight for his, and your lives.

Although I'm not a fan of the outcome, but having been in combat, its not as cut and dry as people are making it. I don't care how trained you are, that was a shitty situation. Personally I don't think they had substantial amount of training together, it was almost like Chapman was augmented to the team at the last minute, as soon as the infilled they went two different directions, not common when a team has battle drills they constantly train on. That's nothing more than an observation. As for this guys actions, I wasn't there so I cant say what he was up against on the ground. You never know what your going to do until your in that situation, its very easy to Monday morning quarterback from an aerial video. A lot of casualties, bullets flying everywhere, unforgiving terrain, heavy snow on the ground, limited visibility, cold weather, minus a lot of today's equipment, that's a challenge. Did he deserve the MOH? Probably not due to certain inconsistencies being in his story that would warrant the award, but that depends on who you ask, and from what perspective they are giving you an answer.
