So many awesome games at this place "free play". I wish I lived closer to Rhode Island now. If there was a place like this on long island by me I'm sure it would do very well. For now we have "Dave and Buster's" and a lot of redemption arcades at some malls and they really suck compared to a place like this. Great video John.

Well done Jay and Scott! A great arcade, and an awesome FPGA project... The spinner on that Tempest _really_ needs some lubrication. Put some light oil on it, and it won't make that "brrrrrr" noise at all.

There are already lots of arcade cores, including some vector stuff. Thanks to a good friend, it's now possible to run many of these on the DE10 Nano board (which is very similar to the board in John's vid, but with HDMI added). And yes, there is already a Galaga core. ;) It would be trivial to make a Jamma (or vector) adapter for it, as the "MISTer" project adds analog RGB and audio already. (making an adapter for a vector cabinet is a little bit more involved, but not much.) Quite a few of the cores can run on the stock DE10 Nano, but others need an extra board with standard SDRAM on it. (as it was easier to port existing retro cores that way, rather than getting them working with the DDR3, which is a pain. lol) The SDRAM board is cheap though, and the design for that and the VGA board are open-source. github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/wiki

I have that same shirt Scott that has. He must have got it at CAX as well. Definitely Sega vector games would work great with that board. Tac-Scan and Star Trek would be great with the Tempest spinner.

Instead of having a different connector board? Tempest and majorhavoc or anything else, just make the one bored and supply a different connector to work with your connector surely this would be better would lower his costs and easier for the end user.

John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech - I visited the arcade last night and found a place a few blocks away that charged $6, another parking lot much closer to the arcade was charging $10. Quite different from Amherst where you pay nothing to park. It is just something I need to factor in along with the cover charge and the distance I need to travel.

That Tempest FPGA looks frickin' amazing. Looking forward to when those will be available for purchase. I've got a Tempest with a pcb that is down. I would like to have it repaired eventually. But it would be great to have a multi-vector FPGA to use in a Tempest cab. Great looking arcade. Except for the spinning disco ball, WTF is up with that? I would not want that distraction any where near arcade games.

I suppose at the end of the day all your doing is generating the same voltages that hardware would make to drive the monitor. The designers right if it implemented properly I don't see how you'd be able to tell the difference. It's just like wine it's all subjective. There trade off's for sure I mean how many gates would really need to emulate a game hardware 100% there probably too many variables too dynamics. There trade's offs in any system from what I've seen this great system and great way to preserve history. Awesome job.

are you going to review the new wave toys mini arcades when they are released would be real disappointed paying $160 for something with a $30 Pi in it every one is excited about how cool they look but no one has even asked about the specs of what they are running on they are doing a centipede and a tempest one to me tempest would not look like the real deal being their is no vector monitor and that's what they are claiming its the 100% real arcade experience in 1/6 scale
