Just wanted to mention one thing that Paul forgot to mention about the new Define R6. That modular HDD plate that he removed can actually be shifted back into the case to be in line with the motherboard plate. Then on the backside of that HDD plate, you can still mount two 3.5" HDD's on it. So you wouldn't lose all 3.5" HDD support when shifting to the more open layout.

I think you guys need to hold back release on this case until you swap out all front panels with USB type C. Don't sell it extra, that's just a slap in the face to your customers. 2nd, there is a black out version why is there not a whiteout version? Most of the complaints i'm reading is why is the front black and not white? Do white or at least a light silver. For $150 USB type C should be included. For anything over $100 and it being 2018 USB type C should be included. USB 2.0 is completely redundant when 3.0 is included. 2 USB type A 3.0 and two USB type C is all this case needs.
@fractaldesignsupportna5456 жыл бұрын
If you want an honest answer for why the type C port doesn't come with the case. It is because 3.1 gen2, as quickly as it's caught on in the mobile world, is still very much a newcomer on the PC side of things and still very costly to include with the proper quality construction and materials we consider standard for cables and connectors on a Define series case. USB 3.1 gen2 may be ubiquitous in the near future (assuming USB 3.2 doesn't get there first), but for now, there are still very few motherboards with 3.1 gen2 headers and very few devices aside from phones that can take full advantage of it. We know many have been asking for gen2 support, but since most don't yet have a use for it we felt it best to give people a choice rather than charge everyone what would have been a significantly higher price. As for the other colors, these are just the colors that we launched with. If we hear enough from the community that they would like to see a certain color. Then we may release more colors of the Define R6 in the future. That is what happened with the Define R4 Blackout Edition, and the Blackout color has made its way into the Define R5 and the Define R6.

Thank you for the quick and detailed reply. Hopefully this will help answer what many have been questioning today. One last thing I would suggest. Offer some combo package where the type c front panel and maybe the PCI E extension cable is cheaper if ordered at the same time as the case. Something to bring the cost down because all together we are talking over $200 and that is asking a lot.

Amazingly well designed that you can fully populate the storage bays AND have a radiator in the front. The top moduvent may be a bit too far fetched, they could've gone with a simpler method. But that's a minor issue. There really isn't anything downright wrong with this case. Just a few nitpicks here and there: - the moduvent panel as aforementioned - preferred the modular wall section to have the pattern similar to the Define S so you can mount reservoirs or SSD's on it. - would've really really liked that the USB C port was native, so we didn't have to fork out extra cash for that port.

The minor issue with the define C is that you have to play with the front intake fan placement in order to feed the GPU properly because they're a few ahirs away from touching the GPU. Yes it's more compact but it seems like it'd cause some minor airflow issues compared to having more room at the front of the case to let the air circulate into and get blown over the board and hardware.

I'm going to be building a new system (first in 5 years) and will be using the version of this with the solid sides that includes the USB-C port (they sell them from the factory that way now). I'll admit the price seemed a little high initially, but as it includes enough decent quality fans that I won't have to buy more and it seems like it will be a joy to do a build in which is a lot more than I can say for the no-name cases I've used in the past.

Hi Paul. I've watched more videos on the R6 than I'd care to admit and yours has probably been the most informative. Despite only getting my R5 a year ago, I think I'll have to grab the R6 in the New Year for the better radiator support. Think I'll just give the R5 to my dad for his TR build! In case you get the chance to look, I've got a few questions for you ... 1. Would a Blu-ray drive in the 5.25" bay restrict access to the fill port or prevent you from fitting a 280mm in the top? I've currently got a HWLabs 280 GTS destined to be placed in the top of my R5, once the retailer gets it back in stock. 2. Can the fan hub be easily removed (looks like a pair of screws holding it to the case?) 3. Do you think there'd be enough clearance at the bottom for a slim 140/240/280mm + fan(s) with a 280mm at the front? It looks like there should be ... my EK CE 280 fits in the front of the R5 with about 4mm clearance, though I needed a custom bracket made to orient it with the ports at the bottom. The removal of a 5.25" bay should create at least 40mm extra clearance, but I figure there may be some more room on top of that as the dual 5.25" bay in the R5 has the extra height to it for the grooves for the 5 bay HDD bracket to slot in. So I guess you'd be looking at up to 50mm clearance between the bottom of the case and the bottom of a 280mm radiator? If you get the chance to look into these, thank you so much! If not, no worries. I'm sure you're already hard at work figuring out what to do with this case, while finding time to enjoy the festive period ... -Rygel

Hey Paul, you might not see this but I wanted to ask you a question. Or maybe one of the fellow commenters can help me out. I've only built a couple PC's in my life so bare with me if these questions are dumb. My parents did something really awesome for me this holiday and purchased me a gtx 1070 ti, they've never purchased any computer components for me before and I'm grateful for that. But my current computer is essentially just a run of the mill R9 380 and a AMD FX 6300 processor. I'm well aware that installing a 1070 ti would essentially just be bottlenecked like crazy. I also only own a 1080p 60 Hz monitor; seems like everything is just really expensive right now. My question(s) is/are -Should I even bother installing the 1070 ti or should I wait until I have enough to afford to just build a new system - I was set on purchasing a ryzen 1600 processor but it looks like the new 8400 intel processor is around the same price and better performance gaming wise, should I just go with that? -Is the 8400 stock cooler decent? I don't plan on overclocking as I don't trust myself to really do that as I don't really understand the limits or the how to. - Do you know of a decent way to sell my old system? I'd love if I could sell it and cut the cost of a new system potentially by 75% -Should I consider reusing older parts from the previous system if I don't sell it? Which ones are typical okay to reuse? Thanks to anyone that takes the time to read this

Great video Paul. Glad to see you did a build in it, really helps seeing how it would be. With the vertical GPU mounted, would it not be possible to mount a GPU in Slot 1 and also have a vertically mounted GPU? For instance I have 2 EVGA FTW GTX 1080's I would love to do a config with one horizontal and one vertical. Could this be done. I know you said it takes a lot of room and that it potentially blocks the rest of the PCI slots.
@justinstephenson93606 жыл бұрын
The case needs a white front. Clearly a great case for watercooling, love the idea of pre-drilled fill port mounting. For air cooling there are a couple of obvious mods. For vertical mount GPU need to drill some breathing holes in the tempered glass to allow GPU fans to get air. On top I would raise the solid moduvent panel by 1/2" to allowair to escape yet still keep some noise dampening and clean look. I actually prefer the vertical mount GPU - no pressure on motherboard and therefore no board droop - also much cleaner cable management

Hi Paul great video very informative but! and there is always a but when you removed the White internal panel why did you not refit it at the back of the case as it should be? It makes for a much neater build and you can fit 2 HDD or 2 SSD on the back of it which are completely hidden. You can also get rid of the CD drive mount completely if you want. I've bought the case and its great,the standard Black with TG glass version all the others are on back order until March. The only downside I have found is the GPU gets a little warmer than when in my old Corsair 300R as it had 2 side fans resolved by changing the fan curve. I wouldn't consider using the vertical riser as this would get the whole system to warm unless it vents efficiently ut of the back.

The solid front panel is a weird design choice. With the panel in place the air can only come in from the sides so the front filter isn't necessary. If the front panel is designed to be opened up or removed for more airflow having the filter as the front facial is not aesthetic. It would be better to have ventilation slots on the front panel for airflow and the panel should not cover the 5.25" drive bay. Otherwise have a nice mesh instead of a solid piece so that the front fans can be seen for some RGB goodness.

Got the Define S with my custom loop in it, 360 and 240 rad with a 980ti and i7 4790k, might just swap to this case since It's got the dust filters mine doesn't have (I removed the front since I needed space) and the PSU shroud! Really beautiful, would fit my black and white build!

Hey Paul, could you do a video on a best bang for the Buck pc? Not really with a pricetag but more of which hardware would give it to you, might be fun. Cheers!

Paul, I know it's a Lot of Work And...Time to do but I think you should move Arctic Panther to the Define R6. Just throwing that out there. :-) Awesome Build.

Really cool that you linked other reviews in the description. I know that it doesn't seem like it is possible, but is there any way to have a 3.5" drive and the front section removed? I am looking at doing a custom loop in this, but I have one HDD. UPDATE: In the HardwareCanucks review you can move that front panel to the back and mount the 3.5" drives to that! Really cool. Easily the best case of 2017.

I like this case for my Threadripper build using the ROG Zenith Extreme which fits according to their specs. The drive tray comes out for a front fan/radiator.

Thanks for a very good review. Yes, great case, about as close to perfect we may get - possibly the best in it's class currently. I just hope the next version (R7) has a REMOVABLE PSU shroud. It is REALLY ticking me off that it is not removable. If I'm paying $300+ here in Australia for a Seasonic Titanium Or AXi Corsair PSU WHY oh WHY would Fractal force me to cover it up with that damn shroud when the gorgeous glass window affords such a great view of a magnificent high end PSU. It is a modular PSU so making the cables look neat is easy! No need for a shroud - OR, make it removable! Couldn't have been rocket science difficult to make it removable, surely Fractal?!! Oh, and they need to make the top twin piece roof easier to separate. Does anyone, including the reviewer, know when the R7 is due please? If these two things are fixed I will be insisting they take my money !

I would love to see a version of this case with no glass and no fans included. Drop the cost a bit for anyone not doing an aesthetic build or who is more focused on optimizing airflow.

Only if the front panel was white, this case would tick every box. Subtle looks, sturdy build quality and plenty of space for HDD's radiators, and whatever and no useless rgb lights. Maybe they will publish one with a white front panel later. If they do, this will probably be the case I will build my next system in.

Cases as a service? 150+40+30=220$...neat case but too expensive imo. Would have been smart to be able to move that front piece to the back when opening the front to block sight to sidepanel damping mat(fractal post farther down says it can move back) and perhaps add res mounts and such. Seems a little unfinished for a 220$ case (still)
@spencercarruth97066 жыл бұрын
TheSickness1234 Remove the tempered glass and the add-ons and you arrive at $120, much more reasonable. Also, the add-ons are exactly that, they are optional. Don't say that this is a $220 case as that is being dishonest.
@TheSickness6 жыл бұрын
Spencer Carruth no it’s not dishonest, with all premiums it wants to be a premium 220$ case, so people that get lured in by the full features displayed should also compare it to other 220$‘ish cases...what is dishonest about that? Kind of like at a car dealership, base price is x but the car they give you for a test drive will definitely have the premiums, but it’s just optional. Just like lootboxes, just optional... But sure strip it down, -tempered glas, -premiums, -basement, -fans, -chinese generic fan controller, -rgb(wait not an option)...what are you left with? Still probably a 80$ case, compare that to other cases in the price bracket...they will have things we just stripped off this one, just compare honestly...$ for $
