I appreciate your systematic and humble presentation So many utube gear commentators use their vids as an opportunity to show off how great they are And even though I quite enjoy your demo songs at times I think they are bit too long I can’t understand why any one would need 273 amps to choose from surely you need only one or two really good ones I wish Fractal would bring out a stripped back model that focussed more on playability and effects than amps

Hi, thank you so much for your feedback! Yes, some videos are long, especially the comparison ones. I can reduce the time, but I think that at the end you are free to watch the sections that are more interesting for you. Having a long video allows you to have a single place where you can find many info. Therefore at the end I decided to keep this format, especially for comparison videos, that are the ones the in the long run get the most views. Thank you!

I came to the same conclusion you did. Great demo song as usual. I'm a huge SLO100 fan and you got a consistently similar tone from all sources. Hard to tell them apart in mix, but FM3 was a tiny bit better isolated. The lack of a built in expression pedal hurts the FM3 as an all in one for live use. The FM3, with the expansion buttons and expression pedal could eliminate all my real amps in my music room. God bless and rock on 😎🎸👍

Hi, Leo! another great video mate. I got a Helix, but really thinking about getting the FM9. FM3 can get 2 cabs at once, but the LT can get 2 amps and cabs in parallel or serie in the same preset at the same time or not, that's the reason why I choose the Helix instead of FM3. Keep the good work. Cheers!!!

Hi, thank you for sharing! You are right, the FM3 does not allow to load to amps in the chain, but the FM9 overcome this limitation. Thank you!

Another awesome video, thanks! This channel keeps being great. Here is what I think: I, personally, regard "tweakability" not as an advantage but as a disadvantage. I haven't understood the point of it up to this day. Either an amp model (that's all I am asking of a modeller) is "ready", like a real amp, or it is not. Minor tweaks should be enough. Everything else destroys my inspiration. Maybe this is just me but that was the main reason I returned to real amps or Kempers for recording. This being said: both units sounded great in the video, of course. The Helix was the better Soldano but (here is the point again:) you could tweak both to sound the same or similar 😉.

great job. the cleans needed a little more eq for the bass and mids on the Helix to match the others. I think the moral of the story is that both devices are comparable and can sound great. Both devices are winners as is the song. I have both and prefer the easier layout of the Helix footswitch design. The default patches for the Helix are not as good as Fractals but Leo showed us here that it certainly can be done.

So in your opinion, does the FM3 have as much processing power as the Helix? If I were to create a big preset with lots of bells and whistles, would both units be able to handle it well? I'm debating whether to get FM3 with FC12, vs. FM 9.....
@LeoGibsonGtr4 ай бұрын
Hi, I have the original FM3 and not the Turbo Mk II. If you want to be sure to be able to load very complex signal chain, I would suggest the FM9. On the other hand typically the Helix allows to load complex chains...even if I would compare directly the max signal chains available Helix and Fractal, as each block uses its own algorithms and the Fractal ones could be more complex.... Thank you!

I have the LT. In the mix, this quite hard to tell the difference between the units. Then, isolated, it seems to me that the FM3 is a tiny bit superior : it delivers more spacy, wide "wellatease" sound in the spectrum. Apart from that, I am the kind of guy for whom to much tweaking possibilities are not suitable as I'd get lost in space ! :-D (I'm trying to overcome my nerdiness !!). And for the rest, having an expression pedal is to me a key point. Essential. Congrats for your song which is beautiful with cool vibes (much appreciated in these days). Take care !

Another really good demo video from you. Made some interesting contrasting points that would apply to the vast majority of guitar players who would be in the market for such a device. I am more interested in the cleaner tone side of things so the Dlx Rev demo was somewhat illuminating. Neither unit really matched up that well with the Fender. Would give a slight edge to the FM3 on that one. The girth of the mid-range was somewhat missing especially from the Helix LT (sounded kind of thin). Not sure if any tweaks would help from either unit. Maybe you could comment on that. On another note, I think that a video on playback systems for modeler(s) of this type would be very interesting and informative. Yes a decent modeler now can come close to many real amps including the tube variety and in a studio or home setting you may already have a monitor system in place, however for the avg gigging musician you still may have to cart around a power amped/cab or FRFR type powered speakers etc. etc. I see many questions regarding this on manufacturers forums. Maybe you could produce a video on this if you haven't already.

Hi Harry, thank you so much both for the compliments and for sharing your opinions and experiences! If these comparisons are being made with each brand’s modeler sharing the same numeric amp knob settings, it is NOT a fair comparison, especially if you’re using factory presets. Why? Let’s say one manufacturer got their resultant modeled preset tone of a given amp while using medium to high-output humbuckers, but the other manufacturer got their result using vintage low-output humbuckers…or even single coil pickups. Naturally they’re going to sound different…and pickups are just one possible variable for a given manufacturer’s tonal “conclusion” for a given model! Both manufacturers likely used a variety of guitars, further compounding opportunity for discrepancies between two given brands. This is why many will say, “brand-x sounds bassier” or, “brand-x sounds shrill”, or whatever. I think it would be more useful for you to dial in your “ideal” tone for a given model on one brand’s unit, and then see if you can match the tone with the other unit, using the same IR (and guitar) for each. This will show people whether two brands’ modelers are truly on par with each other, and I think that’s what many of us are curious about.
@LeoGibsonGtr3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your suggestion. I've made many videos, also tweaking the modelers to sound like the real amp. In any case, I think that every method has his own pros and cons, for instance in the one you are suggesting I would have to tweak the modelers, introducing biasing in the way I do it, and in the way I tweak the tone, using some parameters over the other, and judging with my ears that are different from yours, etc. In my opinion having the modelers with the same settings as the real amp is a good starting point to verify how close or far the modelers are compared to the real amp. This method is for sure not biased from my side, as I'm using the exact same setting of the real amp (in my opinion). Thank your for your message!

Hi, thank you for sharing. What do you prefer? the real amp or other modelers? Thank you

@@LeoGibsonGtr Haha, honestly didn't expect a reply. It was more of an ironic response, sorry. Had the Mooer GE150 recently and it was BS. Only usable sim was the Engl Fireball or whatever it resembles. JCM900, also nice. But the Mesa's, no way. But I can't really talk about this ballpark in the video. The only thing I can say: What are they worth in a time where we can record guitar through interface and put any sim later on the track. In times where we even have NaLex Amplex. Live no one really cares if your sounds are a simulated JCM800 clean/crunch or a boosted Mesa. So, yeah, maybe real amp or just a 2 channel Joyo Bantamp. But even an all tube amp is 250 bucks these days or even less. I think I'd go with the Helix, they've seemed to up their game quite a bit.

Your accent is just fine man! Keep on making this great content!

@@bradlions I appreciate the kind words and it's nice to encourage people, but no, you can not tell him his accent is fine. It's like saying 2+2 = almost 5 and say your maths are fine. The world would be better if we could speak the truth. I do like Leo's reviews though, but as a youtuber, it's nice when people point out what to focus on to make better content.

@@florentimbert7401 The math example just doesn't make any sense. I agree with you about telling the truth but I think that there are better ways to express these kind of opinions and sound less rude.
@florentimbert74013 жыл бұрын
@@fergy81 It's very clear. You're changing the debate on being rude or not instead of saying whether his accent is good or not. You know it's the truth so you're changing the subject. Even if I was the rudest or the nicest person on Earth, that doesn't change his accent. And I was expressing MY opinion. I said "I can't". If you can, good for you, man! Keep on rockin
