I'm so glad to hear he is better and back to carrying your kids around! I bet the kiddos were sad about their pony's broken foot!

Old boy ? ... Sir, take your 1920s terms back to them. Might as well have called him an Old Sport.

Out of curiosity, how did you know that bone in his leg broke? He seems to be incredibly patient when you were working on his horseshoe!

My guess is the owner noticed some limping and got an Xray done.

Yes that was going to be my question, if the break was so tiny how would any one know unless the horse showed some signs of discomfort?

Ah what’s with the warp speed?! I love your videos and the intro was great and then into the speedy! I skip to the end when it’s too fast coz it makes my head spin. If I slow down the rate myself the sound distorts too much. I wonder if I’m the only one who thinks that your skill - real time - is what we want to see!

I always wondered how do you know how deep to trim the hooves. Is it like certain measurements or kind of just have a feel for it. From my understanding to the horse it's essentially the same sensation as the feeling of clipping nails for a human and sometimes if u clip nails too deep it can hurt, so how do you know how much to trim?

How do the horses in the wild deal with the overgrown hooves? Just curious. It's not like a farrier goes into the wild to help the poor creature 😅
@kimberly_erin Жыл бұрын
Some of them develop hoof problems, but in the wild they generally wear the hooves by walking on them. A lot of modern people shoe their horses. This requires maintenance and was initially developed so horses that were walking a lot or carrying a lot of weight or walking on hard surfaces wouldn’t wear their hooves to quickly. A lot of modern horses don’t need shoes because they are not experiencing this type of wear, but for the very same reason they are also not wearing their own feet down enough and need a trim. It all depends on each horse, the terrain they are on, and their level of activity. There is another video here that says broken coffin bone in the title, and that horses’ hoof is starting to shed naturally. You can see where it used to have a shoe that is no longer there, the hoof has grown out, flared away and it’s starting to brake off naturally. I imagine that horse would have been better if the person who had it shoed before had left the feet alone or just given a trim. But there was not enough information to know that. Anyway if you can find that video you may see some of the wearing process on the hoof capsule. I hope this channel starts showing X-rays when they speak about broken bones. The X-ray is an important part of the story.
