You must not have a Ford, otherwise you could have saved hundreds by now, using a much higher quality Motorcraft oil filter for 3.50 a pop. Fram is garbage. Even a budget filter from walmart beats it, hands down. Keep in mind this video compares the highest synthetic Fram to a cheap supertech and microgaurd. The Fram orange filter is a peice of garbage. They are so weak that you can absolutely crush them with an oil filter wrench. Engine protection is not something to cheap out on. Good luck with your truck. @@williamschuman4951 They make tools specifically for cutting open filters. They're $50-80. Anybody who does this regularly has one, myself included. It makes a clean cut without scattering sparks and debris into the filter. It's necessary for cutting open a used filter, and a used filter tells you much more than a new one. I don't care much for what it looks like out of the box. What matters is after it's been used and analyzing the oil for particle counts to determine filtration efficiency, flow testing the filter to see how clogged it may be, and inspecting to ensure the seams and media held together through it's use. Purolator filters, for example, look great when new, but I've seen a lot of them with tears in the media after use. I've cut open a lot of used Fram Ultra filters (~30) and haven't found a failure yet. One was run for 30k miles (3 OCIs) with very low particle counts in the oil (filtered well) and it still flowed 3 gpm @ 1.7 psid (new is 3 gpm @ 1.5 psid) so it still had life left.

As someone who has recently started changing their own oil and exploring this topic (including what filters to use), I have yet to see someone out of the many videos on KZbin provide evidence and sources of this actually happening. I put on a Fram Ultra and it seems to be working very well. Also, wouldn't the total square inches matter more than only the length itself? Doesn't Fram's 1.25 inches wide and 42 inches long (being 52.5 square inches of synthetic, wire backed media) compare far more favorably to Super Tech's 1 inch wide by 52 inches long (being only 52 square inches of their standard media)? They appear to have relatively similar areas (in square inches), but yet again Fram ultra is using their unique synthetic media with the wire backing. It would also seem like the quality and design of the media also plays into this with some being superior for different applications. As far as it seems, most of these filters out there appear to work and would pass rigorous testing (even the orange can). The extra and tough guards also appeared wider than others with metal end caps. With that, wouldn't it seem like it would have same or more area (in square inches) compared to those with metal end caps? I see a lot of people bashing Fram without seeming to say how they actually fail when used properly within a reasonable mileage between changes. When I changed my oil, the place I went to used some kind of orange can (model number CORR3614 or so) and I didn't notice any problems.

Based on you description here, and hating Fram, Fram isn't necessarily trash, in fact, I think they're one of the better filters on the market, that glue that yours seeing, yes it's troubling to see such a mess, bit if you cut open an amsoil or Royal purple filter (both champion filters) you'll find a lot of overspray as well. This isn't based on facts, this is an observation, and still not an apples to apples comparison, take a wix XP puro BOSS, and Royal Purple, with that Fram Ultra, throw in your lawsuit references and then I'll believe you, Fram has kept my engines going strong for well over a million miles, never had a lubrication failure. The lawsuits we're with the Orange can, and even then, failures are due usually to neglect. The Ultra is one of the most STOUT filters on the market at an incredible price point per comparison. There's absolutely no credible evidence of potential engine damage here. As for the rust, per another video your Wix XP in a previous video had rust and even you said that was your preferred filter. Rust prevention is done via Engine oil. I'm sorry but this kind of stuff drives me BONKERS.

Yes other filters have quality control issues. I also explain. But the main points i don't defend wix if there is a problem i say it i also explain in videos. The best manufacturer's in the world can have something slip past the qa quality assurance. So over time the more filters opened of the same brand with the least quality issues would probably be the best choice. Now which filter fits the bill well im not sure yet maybe you know or do you have tunnel vision with fram. I did with wix but the rust and length of filter media plus more only hurt wix stock for me.

I've been watching many of these oil filter cut away vids and by far, the Fram was the least liked filter. I'm not using Fram anymore especially since there is NAPA Auto down the street and I see their GOLD is one of the best.

Yes the napa is good quality. What can we try next?

Yes and none of the ultra synthetic had these problems. What does that tell you?

Guess who makes NAPAs cheapo line of filters. The ones sold in cases of 12 and shrink wrapped.

Who opens an oil filter with a grinder and cut off wheel anymore? The proper filter cutter is about $50! If you are a YT content creator, at least use the correct tool for the job!👎
