Could probably even get higher clocks if you didn't throw the voltage slider to maximum. Turing & Ampere have never done well with that as they draw soo much power and start to throttle clocks kinda aggressively if your power limited. Personally I got better overclocking and benchmark scores with a 0mv offset and actually under-volting the card so the power draw always stays below the max limit. As soon as your sitting at the TDP limit in the BIOS the GPU is going to drop multiple clock speed bins to stay below the power limit.

Why are the 8 pin power plugs drawing 117W with the PCIE slot shunt vs 121 without the PCIE slot shunt? You stated that they'd draw more - not less.
@xelnaga184 жыл бұрын
when you shunt an input it spoofs the readings on the card. so the card is tricked into thinking its pulling less and you get incorrect numbers showing in GPU-z. As the shunter you know which type of resistor you applied and will know how much to math the current reading .... like he did in the video
@arestavo4 жыл бұрын
@@xelnaga18 It only reads incorrect on the shunted input - in this case the PCIE slot. Original question still stands.
@xelnaga184 жыл бұрын
@@arestavo the card does try to Ballance the power input based on some layout in the bios. So the card is now pulling more from the slot. The bios flash only increases the draw by 50 max. Additionally... I think the new bios is still not working. He should try this shunt mod on the old bios to ensure a different result. I suspect the card is doing what all cards would do with the pcie slot shunted
@jasonwatson93394 жыл бұрын
The board still has a total board power limit of 500W. The card still knows if it is pulling 500W total via the other shunts on the board. Each power rail (core, memory, cache) has an individual shunt that measures current flowing over it. So with more power being pulled over PCI less is needed over 8 pins to hit 500W cap. To truly disable power limits is gonna require shunting the 8pins, (3 shunts), the pci-express (1 shunt), and potentially each of the 3 rail shunts.

Sorry for the dumb question, but are you saying that you can't just shunt the multiple main power rail resistors (. 005Ohms in parallel with additional .008Ohms) and just use a standard bios? I.e. Is it overall restricted by the PCIe power draw? I appreciate that the gpu bios mod would mean just adding the PCIe shunt. Just a little concerned at drawing up to 120 Watts from the PCIe slot. I think your current shut is still limiting the overall because it seems the PCI-e was still hitting the limit
@jasonwatson93394 жыл бұрын
Its that the total board power limit is still 500W. Shunting the pci-e just lets you actually pull 500W instead of 450; you would still have to shunt the 8pin shunts if you wanted to pull more than 500.

DON’T DO THIS! A guy I know blew the 10A fuse on his PCI-E shunt using an 8 mOhm shunt resistor. A 15 mOhm is much safer, although it’s still unknown just how safe, if you want to order some, you can get them from Digi Key, take the part number from the top post and just replace the 8 with the number you want, 15 in this case. Although 10 or 12 may be ok for the 8 pins, apparently the 20A fuses on those are good for no more than 240w. You shouldn’t be running over 800w anyway lol. I think 550w is the limit for water cooling before you’re risking components. For whom it may concern, I did try this on mine. I glued a 8 mOhm shunt on to my PCIE shunt. It did work fine, but obviously I took it off when I heard what happened to the other guy. As a side note, getting the glue off would have been a massive PIA if I didn’t have a heat gun. Used the heat gun to loosen the glue and it came right off.
