Code rated means Hurricane proof, we have the same here in OZ for cyclones. What I did with my house, was fit tripple grips, and cyclone clips. The cyclone clips went on all the battens, prior to roof sheeting, and the tripple grips, were used to tie the roof into the walls. This gave a rating of W90. Most of all new homes in a cyclone area, need to meet the W70 rating, I wanted to double strength that rating, to W90. For a wind strength of 240kmph. We don't live in a cyclone rated area, but we are known to get tornado's rarely, and seriously bad storms. I am the only house in our village to be rated at even W70, let alone the W90, we built it too. This has saved the house on 5 occasions, in the last 20 years, but most of the houses that are on the same hill as us, have either lost a roof, and/or walls. We have never lost anything.

Worst case if you can't get windows you want, screw in temporary bracing, put the siding on and dry in the structure. Then when you have the windows, frame the openings and headers from the inside of the wall, put the final bracing in, cut the window openings and install the windows. Basically similar to installing in an existing wall except the back is open so you can frame it. That way you can take your time installing the windows and even do it after the weather turns.

Another tip: When installing your fascia boards, use some short scrap 2x4 pieces screwed to the bottom of the rafter tails. The fascia boards can sit of them while you fasten them in. Then unscrew them when you are done. Oops, should have watched the whole video before I commented. Looks like Cortney already figured it out on the barge rafters! Sure wish I was up there to help you guys (I'm headed that way in the fall) but you are doing a fantastic job on your own!

Y'all are doing GREAT work! I’m self taught with most things I know. Learning along the way can be rough sometimes but it's so incredibly worth it. It's where innovation comes from. Riley, you looked downright exhausted at the end of the video. I know y'all have a couple more days left with the telehandler so you're still pushing hard but again, all worth it. Make sure to take a day (or at least part of a day) to rest and recharge once that machine goes back. You deserve it, brother!

Thank you for many of your explanations. Just had a thought on the long bolts you used. Maybe add a jamb nut (double nut) to each long bolt. With wind &movement, eventually, they might work themselves loose. Maybe. Love that you're putting in diagonal cross beams. I see these on century old barns & they are still standing strong. I think too many new buildings rely on the sheeting for cross load stability. Definitely a bunny.

when putting up facia, you nail cleats on the top edge to hang on the rafter tails or out riggers to hold it temporally in place while you nail it

I like your 4’ OC trusses. My 4/12 pitch is 9’ on center. What a pain when it came to adding a ceiling! I did notice your 2x4’s on top of the trusses were flat and mine are perpendicular to the truss-standing on edge. On top of my 2x4’s I have a blanket of insulation which keeps the condensation off the underside of my roof. Then a steel roof. I’ve noticed my friend’s roof does not have that insulation and his roof sweats. As always, nice work and thanks for sharing.

Once I saw you put up the first rafter in the previous video, it made perfect sense as to 'why' you left the front wall for last. Working on a physical project is always a balance between safety and effeciency. Obviously, you don't want to be so 'safe' you can't do the work effeciently. It seems like you've gotten a pretty good balance between the both. I've learned a few things by watching you both build your place. Keep up the good work!

Admit it, Riley. You enjoyed being able to tell your wife where to go and how to get there. 😉 🤣 Curious to see your roofing material. Is it a steel sheath over a conventional underlay, etc? I like your planning as far as garage doors are concerned. You'll be able to get anything that can get up your driveway into your garage. Are you going with a wall or roof vent for exhaust? Looking forward to your next video. PS Have fun with the bunnies. 🐰 + 🐶 🐶 = 🤣 I know this from experience. My dog Holly always thinks she can catch the rabbit. Never even close.

Kudos on having the 'logic circuits' in your brain to use the 4 wheel steering effectively. I have delivered heavy construction rental equipment for 20 years and operated reach forklifts and cranes with 4WS in the Army. I can tell you that most people can't do it, or refuse to try because it's too weird. It's like how some people can back a trailer and some can't. It makes me wonder how anything got built before these machines were invented. Big love to those who invented them. PLUS, big toys are fun.

Please, diagonal bracing, even if it's temporary. Once you start adding your sheeting, you turn your roof into a sail, the sheer is incredible. In my over 50 years of general contracting, I've seen framed homes lying flat on the ground, from this very situation! I envy your situation and love the progress, please be safe!

Get the upper siding in while you still have the lift also, not just the roof. And if you can’t find windows you like, then skip them for now. Frame in the sizes you order, but then side over the openings for now… it’s more important that you get inside in time than that you have windows.

I am safety conscious only to the point of having a way of escape when around power tools. I've built institutional and commercial green houses and other things. A greenhouse structure is built loose so the glass, which braces the structure, can fit in. THEN, we tighten the structure. This is backwards from all other structures. Nothing like climbing around on a structure that moves. AND installing thousands of glass pieces.
