Hey Devon, little tip. When shortening your bird blocks so they don't extend above rafters, cut them an extra 1/2" shorter and you will leave an air gap there so there's no need for drilling ventilation holes.

You never cease to amaze me with how much you're able to accomplish essentially on a weekend warrior schedule. Regarding your concerns with soaking your boards and other details, I recommend Huber's Advantech floor sheathing as it can handle excess moisture during construction. Their Zip sheathing is an amazing product too. Also, the Build Show/Matt Risinger and his crew are a great resource for construction/design details. They use a belt & suspenders approach to building science, which an engineer like yourself would really appreciate. Keep up the awesome work!

I was drilling vent holes with a hole hawg--1/2 right angle drill and standing on a 10' ladder near the top. I got maybe 3/4 of the way down the wall when I hit a knot. The torque produced by the drill was pretty significant and it lifted me off the ladder...which of course, knocked the ladder over. Fortunately, we had not sheated that side of the wall yet so I could climb down. Good times. Looking good!

Just curious, is there a reason you're using screws at some parts, and nails at others? Most roofers I've seen use nails.
@devonloerop
@devonloerop Жыл бұрын
Most cases I use screws where I need to hold something and attach at the same time, a nailer isn't as forgiving as I can't readjust easily after shooting nail.
@jamesmccarn7775
@jamesmccarn7775 11 ай бұрын
Old saying, screws will screw you. Most framing involves nailing 3.5 inch nails and alot of them. Screws are for attaching deck boards to the joists. Not trusses...never ever do you use screws on roofs or load bearing walls. I hate to tell you this but...
@mitch500
@mitch500 9 ай бұрын
my friend told me once one of the reasons you use nails for framing is because, if you bend a nail back and forth it takes many times for it to snap. if you bend a screw back and forth once or twice it breaks easily.
