@@miaxlasson , Mary's 3rd husband was James Hepburn, Earl of Bothwell . It was a "forced" marriage a few months after Darnley's murder. Bothwell allegedly abducted her and took her to his castle for her protection, where he allegedly raped her, though it is believed they had already started an affair while Darnley was alive and that they conspired together to kill him. The marriage didn't last as the the Scots were outraged by their behavior. She ended up abdicating and go to England for the protection of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth, where she was executed about 20 years later. Bothwell tried to get to enlist the help of the King of Denmark to get his support for reinstating Mary on the throne. He was shipwrecked in Norway, but taken to Denmark as a prisoner. The King wanted nothing to do with Mary and Bothwell's dumpster fire and kept Bothwell imprisoned for the rest of his life. He died a few years before Mary did.

*FUN FACT* Mary was actually a poet and I personally love all her poems but my favourite is this one...that she wrote for Francis after his death... Read it ...it's so painful and beautiful 🥺🥺 In my sad, quiet song, A melancholy air, I shall look deep and long At loss beyond compare, And with bitter tears, I'll pass my best years. Have the harsh fates ere now Let such a grief be felt, Has a more cruel blow Been by Dame Fortune dealt Than, O my heart and eyes! I see where his bier lies? In my springtime's gladness And flower of my young heart, I feel the deepest sadness Of the most grievous hurt. Nothing now my heart can fire But regret and desire. He who was my dearest Already is my plight The day that shone the clearest For me is darkest night There's nothing now so fine That I need make it mine. Deep in my eyes and heart A portrait has its place Which shows the world my hurt In the pallor of my face. Pale as when violets fade True love's becoming shade. In my unwonted pain I can no more be still, Rising time and again To drive away my ill. All things good and bad Have lost the taste they had. And thus I always stay Whether in wood or meadow, Whether at dawn of day Or at the evening shadow. My heart feels ceaselessly Grief for his loss to me. Sometimes in such a place His image comes to me. The sweet smile on his face Up in a cloud I see. Then sudden in the mere I see his funeral bier. When I lie quietly Sleeping upon my couch, I hear him speak to me And I can feel his touch. In my duties each day He is near me alway. Nothing seems fine to me Unless he is therein. My heart will not agree Unless he is within. I lack all perfection In my cruel dejection I shall cease my song now, My sad lament shall end. Whose burden aye shall show True love can not pretend And, though we are apart, Grows no less in my heart. - *Mary Stuart*

Beautiful and informative video! I love how you selected clips that would match the information displayed. The choice of music is also excellent. To me, I think the real Francis and Mary didn't have the passionate and intense and mature love as shown in Reign. They were too young and I believe their love was more of the unconditional, pure friendship which is still as strong as romantic love, and just as devastating when death comes for one. It's so sad that both of their ends were so miserable.😧

I agree and disagree at the same time. We have to consider the fact that they were royals and at the time 15 was considered adult, so the mindsets of the 15 year old royals were totally different from a 15 year old today, so they might have really loved each other. On the other hand, they were only married for a year which is not too much... We’ll never know. But the real info is that Mary really enjoyed his company (even if it was just for friendship) and she really mourned his death. It was really uncommon at the time for royals to actually like each other (even as friends) since the marriages were usually alliances made when they were born.

Reign's Francis and Mary tear me apart, I loved them so much, but hearing the facts about what happened with the real Mary and Francis, it also breaks my heart that both endured so much. Regardless of how they felt about each other romantically or lack thereof, they had literally grown up together and had rarely been out of each other's sight. That had to be one strong friendship/bond and even love as a brother and sister because of how they were always together. I hate that they were struck with so many obstacles.

Brings a tear to my eye to know his life was so short. Even more so for Mary I know history said she apparently conspired against Elizabeth even after she was imprisoned. But how much do we know of our history to be 100% accurate. Just like the show made up for its inaccuracies by saying the rest of the world won't know or we'll keep it out of the history books something like that. Who knows how much was accurately recorded. Practically everyone from the era in which certain events happened are dead. So alot could have been left out to favour those in power. Obviously some things couldn't be erased or left out. But think about it all we know of the world's history is what we have read in books. None of us actually lived the events that history books speak of. I'm not saying the inaccuracies in the tv show are true. But it's possible after all our world's history has seen alot of powerful people. People who could influence what is recorded and what isn't to some extent. As time travel isn't possible and might never be there is alot of our world's history we can't confirm or deny.

The show ended abruptly when it came to Mary's downfall. She just wasn't prepared to deal with the Scottish Nobel's and the Protestant Reformation....even though she was tolerant to both religions. My family member was one of those Nobel's. She stayed in his castle (Stirling Castle) after having James b/c it was the most fortified and she would be safe there. And James remained with my family.
@susanmorgan88334 жыл бұрын
A movie trying to make a romance out of the marriage of Lady Jane Gray and Guildeford Dudley used the ploy of using inaccuracies and having the characters say "we'll never let anyone know" until we're crowned, etc. That movie tried to romantacize two persons who had no liking or love between them, but it made a good light romance for someone who didn't know the reality of the relationship. 'Reign" is doing the same thing, and very, very little is factual.
@Ckwon1174 жыл бұрын
1000%. Some things would be very difficult to lie/get wrong in a written record, but so many more things are lost between the lines of history. Not that I think Francis was as strong as depicted in Reign (where he killed attackers, outnumbered, multiple times and is just in general a strong athletic man) but still, a lot could be lost to history that we dont know about.

Neelia true, Mary was actually good friends with Diane De Poitiers :) probably one of the reasons why Catherine didn’t like Mary much.

@@maryxstuart From biographies I've read, Mary was very much not Catherine's type (Charles' wife Elizabeth of Austria got on better, perhaps because she spoke little French). I suppose Mary's life would have been different had Catherine ever succeeded in getting any of her other three surviving sons married to Elizabeth I. Funny that Hercule-renamed-Francois came so much closer to the goal than either Charles or Henri before him when the age difference was one of Elizabeth's most often-professed reasons to pull back.

Yes. Mary ignored Catherine in favor of Diane, who actually had more influence at court than the queen. Also, after Henry died, Mary's maternal family, the Guise's, took over, influencing Francis, if not actually dictating everything. Catherine had no reason to like Mary or to allow her to stay in France after the death of Francis.

I don't understand you guys are saying the opposite but when I searched it in a lot of websites they say Mary was not in love with Francis yet they are not sure if Francis loved her. So did they love each other in real life or not?

I thought Francis had an older sister who was queen of Spain. I have a lond distant relative by the name of Thomas Wyatt that was from Scot-Wales, could this be the same one?
@libiusperseus4 жыл бұрын
His sister the queen of Spain was actually younger than him. Francis was Catherine's eldest child.

She didn't loose "status" when Francis died, she became the Queen Dowager... there were no children (doubtful the marriage was ever consumated, due the age of them both, his poor health, and the fact that they actually had grown up as close brother and sister, not lovers) and her income was paid until her death in England, about 25 years later.
