Frank Marino is part of my personal HENDRIX TRIUMVIRATE. I saw Jimi Hendrix live 1970 I saw Robin Trower live 1976 But never saw Mahogany Rush Saw the other Rush 4xs. Sad, he didn't tour the Metro Philadelphia area. This 4th album was excellent. I have the LP.

An extended round of applause for Alex(ander) and George and also Brian and Chris for another great curated week. Sounds to me like the six hour concert was just a case of them getting into an extended jam and forgetting that they were on stage. You can definitely imagine them tripping off for 20mins at a breakdown. Great finale🎉

Many years ago, a friend who knew I liked Hendrix, suggested Mahogany Rush, Frank's band. I accidentally bought an album by Rush !! Still a great band but nothing like Hendrix. Then I found Mahogany Rush's Strange Universe which is a great start then the first album Maxoom dedicated to Jimi Hendrix. On their album Tales of the Unexpected they cover All Along the Watchtower and live also covered Johnny B Goode and Purple Haze.

Frank Marino is one of those names you will see in lists with titles such as, "The Greatest Rock Guitarists," etc., but if you didn't attend a concert you probably never heard Mahogany Rush on the radio. Nice end to this Canada week.

Great choice to end Canada Week! I've been a fan since they were just known as Mahogany Rush, and I didn't even know who Frank Marino was. I just really loved their early prog/bluesy sound. Of course, I know who Frank Marino is now, and in fact, whenever the subject of underrated guitarists comes up, he's always the first name that comes to mind. At least, underrated by the general public. I think fellow musicians know how great he is. Hendrix was a big, big influence. He not only did several Hendrix covers, but his playing and vocals overall were heavily influenced by Hendrix. In fact, early on, he was often called a reincarnation of Hendrix. I know the ages don't fit, but it was often joked (?) that when Hendrix died, he was reborn as Frank Marino. That connection of influence and style was a big thing back in the day. That Agora DVD is absolutely brilliant. I'm so glad that he was able to put together such a great live DVD while he still had his health. It looks and sounds great. I think every song has some type of jam/guitar solo, and he absolutely kills it every single time. His stamina and consistency was amazing!

I first saw Frank at Sherwood Forest. A little hide away hall in Michigan that holds about 200 people. They served Wiskey soaked watermelon and free joints. It was a party like you have never seen! I saw Nugent, Seger, Bad company and Grand funk there and it was a spiritual experience! IT WAS PRIVATE PROPERTY SO COPS NEVER CAME OUT THERE. We partied jack! People were passed out in the hall, in the grass, and in the trees. God we had fun!!! I miss those days.

Day six? you buggers are going to wear me out! Fantastic guitar work. This is a classic example of where one band member sits a few levels above the other members. Frank is awesome. This doesn't just happen in Canada. There is a Japanese band called Trident. In their early outings the were dominated by their drummer and it kind of became the 'Juna' (the drummer) show, because she was on a different level to them. She was so far above the other musicians, skill wise, that they parted ways, and they brought in a new drummer. Trident now sounds more complete and is charting. Meanwhile, Juna has become one of the world's most watched drummers and is rumored to be putting her own band together. Which would be awesome. Brian, thank you for giving us so much wonderful music. Canada has long legs, musically speaking, you have only scratched the surface. I look forward to you bringing us Canada Week 3.
