I'm an old man now, but been a huge fan of Frank's since his beginning. I saw him the same year as this, same set list, etc. It was at a dive in Milwaukee, Wi, USA called The Palms, an old movie theater turned rock club. They even had quadriphonic swirling sound in the place. I'll never forget it.

Did you catch the Alpine Valley show? The cleanest stage production I've ever seen. No cables anywhere visible. It had to be around the time Scorps played there. '78?

I'm 63. Saw this man when I was 15. I've seen hundreds of shows. Frank Marino is the one show I have never forgotten. Hearing "Electric Reflections of War" is a moment in time I will cherish forever. 48 years later I'm still asking myself, how the fuck did he do that with a guitar? Still amazed! Marino forever!

I could postulate at some theories why, but it’s hard to grasp why Frank Marinos’s name isn’t immediately mentioned right along with all the other great full tilt guitar players of the past 50 years. He is one of those guys who could play exactly what was in his head. Like a stream of consciousness. Like Hendrix.
@dmcpopo40272 жыл бұрын
My theory is Marino like Hendrix was so talented he threatened most guitarist. Hendrix left a void and Marino was more than capable at filling that musical void. Remember Hendrix gained fame in England first then conquered America. The powers that be were not about to let a Canadian guitarist conquer America. And Marino was that good. Just a thought
@AudioAtmos2 жыл бұрын
@@dmcpopo4027 Yep, all good points. He definitely got unfairly caught in the “Hendrix comparison” whirlwind of the 70’s and as you said, was too much of a threat and wasn’t given his fair chance. He had to battle some really bad music industry fads of the time.

The guitar gods themselves will always mention Frank. Those of us that know any better, regardless if we can play or not, recognize Frank. I'm one that falls in that can't play a lick category, but I saw Frank in 1978, opening for of all bands Styx, and was hooked. Immediately went out and got "Live", "IV", and "World Anthem". Pretty much have everything else too.

I Saw Frank at least 5 times from 1976-1982 and he was always jaw dropping - when i watch this video here all i can say is jaw dropping wow! but here is the thing and it's just my opinion but when you think of some of the real greats like Hendrix-Page and many others you remember their playing and their great songs - Frank to me is like Malmsteen or Shawn Lane - i watch and listen and am amazed then i don't remember anything - i have about 10 of Franks albums and they all have spectacular moments but just not enough of them song wise -don't get me wrong i like his stuff and certainly he is revered by many guitarists and with good reason but i am not really suprised he never broke through big commercially

Frank jusy blew me away when I first head him in the mid to lat 70s. The whole band was so tight. So under appreciated it made us sick. The music smoked and it showed how few people understood how talented he really was. He could shred with the best and had a groove of his own. Check out "Dragonfly or World Anthem" from the live album. Amazing.
