Jerry Ohrbach, who played Detective Lenny Briscoe on Law and Order, is the singer who starts sining, "It's good old reliable Nathan..." He was a singer and dancer. Said that he FINALLY had job security when he went to work on Law and Order.

Some of us played Nathan Detroit in high school plays and did not realize you were famously playing the part of Frank Sinatra. ,, I kissed the wall leaving an imprint of my school during intermission and the showgirls chorus. -- FUN. A classic film in 1940s brought to life in school plays in 70s and beyond.

I never could figure out how they could go from Nathan practically having a heart attack because he didn’t know where the next crap game was going to be, to Nathan suddenly deciding, “okay, the sewer is good”.
@jamesvach66984 жыл бұрын
Two things, One I think it was mentioned that the game kept moving from place to place because a certain someone (Big Jule) was a rather sore loser. As for Nathan being nervous, I think he was more nervous because he was more worried about displeasing Big Jule because as noted displeasing Big Jule is not a wise decision. Admittedly you would be hard pressed to find people who can say that from first hand experience seeing as how they are apparently no longer around and about if you know what I mean. So basically, he has new problems to worry about.

The Biltmore Garage wants a grand, but we ain't got a grand on hand. And they now got a lock on the door to the gym at Public School 84. There's a stock room behind McKlosky's Bar, but Mrs. McKlosky ain't a good scout. And things being how they are, the back of the police station is out! So the Biltmore Garage is the spot, but the one thousand bucks we ain't got. But for the good old reliable Nathan, oh it's only just a short walk, To the oldest established permanent floating crap game in New Yawk. There are well-heeled shooters everywhere, everywhere, There are well-heeled shooters everywhere, And awful lot of lettuce for the fella who can get us to play. If we only had a lousy little crap, we could be a millionaire. Oh the good old reliable Nathan, Nathan, Nathan, Nathan Detroit, If the size of your bundle you want to increase, I'll arrange that you go broke in quiet and peace, In a hideout provided by Nathan, where there are no neighbors to squawk, It's the oldest established permanent floating crap game in New Yawk. Great show, great song, but Sinatra was not right for the role. He had the star draw, though, at the time. The trouble is he sings too many of his lines, when singing isn't needed here. A lot of Broadway show tunes have lyrics suited to a bit more than talking, but less than singing. Not quite recitative, maybe. Look at the "Fugue for Tinhorns". The words are clipped and the notes not held, more staccato than legato. Imagine singing "Trouble" from "The Music Man". Just me, I guess. Loved the original cast album, but Sam Levene (the original Nathan Detroit) was not a big enough name for Hollywood. Not the only movie based on a musical where the Broadway cast didn't have the star power. I just don't think Sinatra fit this role.
@nunya52705 жыл бұрын
I agree, but only to an extent. I think that Sinatra may not be a big enough sleezeball for the role of Nathan Detroit, but his Voice is divine!!!!. If anything, he should've sung MORE of his lines!!! haha, I'm joking (kind of), but he at least, makes you feel Nathan Detroit's pain through his vocals, especially in the "Due me" number, his voice aches in pain while his acting is lacking. Anyhow, I guess I don't have anyone to compare it to since I never saw it on Broadway. I'm just a huge fan of the film.💕
