I never quite thought of the Fripp as pretentious as much as that he was very specific about what he wanted and what he was about. Couple that with a strain of English reserve and severity and it might be easy to come to that conclusion.

When I was in High School I lived in a small tourist town in SE WI. Adrian Belew lived next door to my best friend at the time who happened to be the guitar player in my first band. We had nooo idea of the mans greatness, we just knew he was guitar player that had some success. He must of heard us hacking through Stairway to Heaven one afternoon, he actually came over and gave my buddy a bunch of pedals and cables that he no longer used. Very nice of him.

I've been loving Franks choice of musicians for over 50 yrs. He never had a 'band' since the Mothers. All collaborations brought an extra dynamic mix to his tunes. This particular version is one of my favorites. Bozzio is the icing on the cake. 😋

I think towards the end, he had his dream team, recorded and re-recorded plenty of classics live, with the horns and Ed Mann on the percussion ! Listen to 'The best band you never heard in your life' ," Make a Jazz Noise here" and "the Yellow Shark", killer line-ups, as usual ! The band I saw in 88 (Broadway the hard way), was tight ! 12 musicians , most of them played three instruments and sang along...Scott Thunes, Chad Wakerman, Ike Willis, Tommy Mars, etc, etc !

It was the late set one of the nights. We were literally in the last row on mescaline, and I don’t remember the song but the stage filled with dry ice smoke and Belew just disappeared in a blaze of power chords… next night I went down and copped a 4th row seat for $10.

The great escape for all of you. Frank held Adrian Belew in high regard and was somewhat miffed when he jumped ship for 3 or 4 nanoseconds of air time on Mr bowies latest shiny thing (be in my video)! Adrian takes syncopation to a whole new level and I can only imagine where Frank could have taken that band with Adrian on board.

One of my all-time favorite Zappa tunes! Here, grilled to perfection! Adrian Belew out front and selling it with all he's got. I wouldn't be surprised if his shoes came flying out of his mouth! Anytime Frank took the stage you can bet he had the best band in existence behind him.

Just pure unadulterated magnificence! What a band this was. And Belew - best rendition of COTL in the entire Zappa catalogue
