Holiday In Berlin," Full Blown" is a brassy instrumental jazz played under a bandstand that distills a carefree, easy-going atmosphere that is pleasant to listen to. Zappa takes over from the brass and clarinets with a guitar part with one of his most beautiful solos, one of my favourites, with a sensitive wah-wah pedal. Beautiful jazz piece, a film score, it is close to a classical piece with a piano conductor supporting an acoustic guitar. A beautiful instrumental piece that cultivates both anxiety and serenity. Its evocative power is insane, after all these years I never tire of listening to this work of art.

Yeah one of the things that I love about Zappa is how fun his music is. It doesn't matter if it is a really complicated piece of composition, or on a topic that he clearly feels strongly about criticizing (such as abusive politicians and televangelists or Warner Brothers), there is always this sense of fun and joy in the music. Like there is this love of music that permeates everything he does. When I was growing up, my two go-to sets of music were Zappa for when I wanted to feel happy, and Pink Floyd for when I wanted to let myself be depressed. :)

Thanks Rory. When you listen to this track dozens of times over, you learn to break it down. What I find from breaking this track down is that it covers at least five genres of music in one piece. Dance, March, swing, waltz, jazz, rock. And it’s very pleasing to the ears. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Such a wonderful Zappa the Composer composition. "Burnt Weeny Sandwich" was the first Zappa album I bought personally, back about '74, at the age of thirteen. It remains a favorite still, almost 50 years later. And this song...aaahhh...this song. Amazing. Blessings.

It’s Called Burnt Weenie Sanwich because it starts and finishes with 2 Doo Wop covers In between is pure Mothers at their best Entire first side is incredible And side 2 is epic Little House Where I use to Live Oh an for the kids out there Side 1 and Side 2 is referencing when Albums were Vinyl and not only did you get the music you also get to enjoy the incredible Artwork This is another Cal Schenkel cover.

Interesting factoid about the cover: Cal Schenkel designed that from random objects he had lying around and it was originally intended for an Eric Dolphy album cover. The record deal, MOOP records, fell through and the album Dolphy was supposed to release didn't happen. The artwork later became Burny Weeny Sandwich.

treat yourself to the whole album Has always been one of my faves. The two piano pieces which end side 1 and start side 2 (Aybeesea and the intro to Little House) are sublimely beautiful and Little House is epic. There might be two drummers on this track. Jimmy Carl Black and Art Tripp I think were playing in the Mothers at this time.

You are correct -- Art Tripp and JCB (or Billy Mundi). JCB probably played the strong sustained beat while Tripp added all the fills, is my guess. (Frank was a drummer, too.)

It's pretty cheesy. Cheesy and pretty. I like how it sounds ''off'' once it gets down to the nitty gritty soft cheese center. The saxes are laughing at you. Best track on the album. Nothing like a full blown holiday past the iron curtain. No hot water and a naked bulb hanging from a wire, toilet downstairs in the lobby. Scent of brie in the air.
