They recently submitted nominations for Crtic's Choice, but only the show and Sam got nominated. The deadline for Golden Globe submissions was November 4th. They did not announce if they sent submissions for that. He hasn't been nominated for any U.S. based awards. Maybe he was nominated for something outside the U.S.

My favorite little easter egg is back in the episode where they find out about Armand wiping their minds, Louis and Armand are bickering about decorating the dining room wall. Louis says "Maybe we'll wait for revelation to enter the room." And in this episode, when Armands full betrayal is revealed, their fight puts a HUGE crack down that wall. Revelation entered the room, indeed
@tdali834715 сағат бұрын
And in the end, Louis chose a Black, New Orleans artist's work to put on that wall. I think that represents him finally figuring out who he is, as does his NOT wearing all black for once in permanent mourning. I'm just glad the floating bookcases are gone since they represented Armand's power over Louis, and glad they didn't crash down in the wall-crack moment and smoosh Daniel like a bug.

The way I took what Louis said, about the "gift", was that becoming a Vampire gave Louis time. Time to learn how to accept himself, time to self-actualize and reflect. If Louis stayed human, there's a very high chance he might have killed himself that night he went into the church, because he blamed himself for Paul's death. Even if he hadn't done that, Louis would have lived a closeted life as a brutish pimp, never discovering himself. He never would have been a father to Claudia (even though he lost her, I am willing to bet that he appreciated being able to love her for the 40 or so years he had with her), he never would have been able to experience love with men the way he did with Lestat and Armand. He would have died lonely and bitter. Now Louis has the chance to be happy some day, if not right now.

As a major Lestat fan, even I get that what they present to you in the show isn’t enough to justify him to most viewers. I have a major bias because I know the character from the books, and I can see the seeds the show writers are laying out to show his whole self. But I understand that the most important parts of him are still unexplained in the show. That’s why I’m so hype for S3 and beyond! But aside from all this, I think the most important thing is to be able to recognize how both Louis and Lestat feel in their final scene together. It’s about processing their performances and feeling why what they’re both feeling is so real, and what this scene means for Louis as a resolution to his whole vampiric struggle. Plus, just a side note, I have never been mad at your Lestat hate as a Lestat lover, because all your takes are real as hell, and you even try to give him grace and interpret his actions during important moments despite your feelings toward him. Plus even your negative takes are phrased so considerately.
@chinyereugwu943111 сағат бұрын
You should be made at him having a rant about not saving Claudia. WRF would he. It's insane to expect Lestat to save the major obstacle in his relationship. Claudia was an unwanted and harmful 3rd in his relationship. Being mad that he didn't save her is unfair and looking for reasons to dislike him.Bro wasn't even upset with Awmand for his part. the bias is obvious.
@emilygalassi421020 сағат бұрын
There is no reality in which Claudia could have been saved. Her death is horrible, it's sad, it's painful. It feels pointless, makes you feel angry, but that's the whole point. Claudia is always going to die, because Claudia is Anne Rice's daughter. There's nothing they could have done to save her, and there's nothing that they could have done to save Claudia, not at that point. She was always destined to die, the fact that both her deaths are related to her burning highlights the fact that the turning didn't actually save her, but only delayed the inevitable. Every single person in her life failed her, and that's the tragedy of it.

A detail I noticed from the last scene with Louis is that he's dressed in a shirt almost identical to the plaid jacket he wears back in 1910 in episode 1! It's like he's come back to himself, he's got colour and pattern back in his life, after being so suppressed and neutral with Armand in his life.

I think the beauty of the Louis and Lestat reunion scene is that, in a way, there is no "moving forward" for them. Claudia is dead, there is no bringing her back. But this is the first time they're allowing themselves to mourn their daughter together, the daughter they killed. Her death is in both of their hands, and they will have to live with it forever. They both know that, and now they get to finally acknowledge it and suffer for it together for a moment. It's heartbreaking and unfair but that's the genius of this show!

@jaginaiaelectrizs634115 сағат бұрын
I think maybe Lestat is eating rats to remind himself of Louis because it's one tiny way he can be vicariously close to what little of Louis he has left (his memory of Louis) and it's maybe also a way to punish himself both possibly for having judged Louis so hard for it and/or by denying himself the pleasures of drinking what he would personally enjoy much better. Honestly, Louis may be doing a similar thing, too-it's maybe a form of self-loathing and punishing himself or disconnecting from himself and his feels and/or it's maybe a way of feeling closer to or remembering Lestat. But maybe that's just me, idekk.😅😊

@mamoonazeb366220 сағат бұрын
I understand the frustration with lestat completely but I think you really hit the nail on the head with the "if louis was under the sun lestat would've saved him" and that's what's at the very heart of this story. BOTH Louis and Lestat are the parents who would save each other before their kid from a burning building. Louis did it in NOLA when he left lestat alive knowing fully well he would most likely kill him and claudia as revenge and lestat did it here. He, and I haven’t read the books nor do I have any knowledge of what happens but scritcly from how I interpreted this show, could physically only save one and he would always always always choose louis. Just like louis would choose him, and has done time and time again. I truly believe that claudia's tragedy is that she had two parents who loved each other a lot more then they loved her.
@emilygalassi421020 сағат бұрын
Also, I feel like a lot of people forget that what Lestat managed to do using all his powers still wasn't actually enough to save Louis... like Armand still had to pull him out of the wall, and he definitely would NOT have done that for Claudia. If Lestat had chosen her between the two he would have actually lost both
@chinyereugwu943110 сағат бұрын
Anyone who expected Lestat to save Claudia hasn't been watching this show. It makes no sense that he would save that girl he was manipulated into having who killed him and tried to get his lover to leave him. C,aydia was a 3rd in the relationship and was constantly working on breaking the pair up. It would be grossly OCC for him to save her. in his shoes I also wouldn't save her. she killed me and took my man!

I love the way you acknowledge and validate differing interpretations that people may have---sooo many people fixate on presenting their own opinions as fact, when so much is based on perspective. We all, including the characters themselves, approach the events, assumptions and motivations in this story through different lenses and it's a testament of brilliance that this show is presented in such a way that allows everyone their own truth. Have you considered a re-watch/ retrospective of both seasons based on your complete journey? That would be epic.

@aKitti23410 сағат бұрын
EDIT: lmao I typed all this out before your voiceover interruption XD I totally understand your frustrations and I also wish Lestat could have done more. Just keeping this up because I still feel like the inner motivation is interesting. There's something very important about Lestat's involvement in the play that first viewers might miss, but after Louis is "banished" and leaves the stage, you can see Lestat swaying like he's about to pass out in the background. Saving one of them took ALL his strength, and he had to choose. It was a shitty choice either way, but you have to kind of get into his head a little bit to understand it I think. If he had saved Claudia, that also means he couldn't have saved Madeleine either, and Claudia would be alone all over again and hate Lestat even MORE than she already did, and Lestat would also be alone. He would never have saved just Madeleine, he doesn't know or care about her. The only choice for him was Louis, because he loves him. It really sucks that it was even a choice that he made, but it makes sense for the characters and the story. I think he came to Paris not for revenge, but to do whatever he could to save whoever he could, and it ended up being Louis. There's also what everyone else has said; Claudia is a stand-in for Anne Rice's daughter. She could never have been saved. It's a tragedy about the loss of a daughter.
@tdali834713 сағат бұрын
Anne (Louis) and Stan (Lestat) Rice's daughter died. Claudia is the child who wouldn't die...until she did. Of course she did because her writer couldn't keep her own blood cancer (leukemia) child alive, so she wrote Claudia's whole vampire world in a fury of drunken grief in San Francisco in 3 weeks. In S1 Ep7, a scene that chilled me as much as any was when Lestat attacked the dying man who had come seeking help, then spit him out: "A cancer of the blood!" These writers are wicked (i.e. the Charles Manson song about a happy home they played at the end of S1 Ep5 when Louis had been dropped to the ground, directly referencing Daniel earlier in the episode saying that he sees Claudia as that psychopathic killer--"Charlie Manson wrote a couple beautiful songs, but..."). I love them!

When Louis says "why did you cross an ocean to rehearse a play that would burn your daughter alive?", we actually realize that Lestat crossed an ocean to be part of that play because it was the only chance he had to influence the outcome. He crossed an ocean, just like Louis crossed the Mississippi, for his love. He played along to save Louis. I think not only he could only save one, and Claudia is the one who was plotting his murder and did most of it, so he let her go, but to him it was always about Louis, rightly or wrongly, and he wasn't going to let his nasty ex kill the love of his life. And he didn't do it so they'd be back together, it's his one selfless act. Also, remember that what Louis wanted out of the interview was "truth and reconciliation", and he did.
@Ganychan21 сағат бұрын
Also if Lestat had tried to do anything else, the coven would have killed all of them.
@-Arkin3321 сағат бұрын
Yeah he definitely didn't come for any sort of revenge, he didn't come to kill either one of them. He came to save them, but it was an impossible situation, without any spoilers, it was very clear in the ep, that he only had one shot to save one of them. So of course he saves Louis. But the thing is, if he saved Claudia instead and let Louis burn (which he wouldn't have been able to regardless)... Claudia would have died anyways. At least in saving Louis, he saved Louis.
@-Arkin3320 сағат бұрын
@Ganychan The thing is, that alot of people either miss or just don't consider... piggy-backing off what you said, it's not the coven leashing Lestat (at least not alone) it's Armand himself. Even weak, this coven is no match for Lestat, but Armand is the equalizer basically. My theory to be honest, based on everything in the episode... is that that's the actually reason Armand was right upfront, instead of in his balcony seat way up in the back. He was the one, mentally, subduing Lestat during the play. And if there was any real reason that he was exhausted from expending too much power, it was maintaining as much control on him as he could. Lestat is genuinely a really powerful Vampire, especially for his age, but he couldn't have taken on an entire coven AND Armand. Armand on the other hand......
@hypocritex17 сағат бұрын
@@-Arkin33 Armand is no match for Lestat at full strength either. JS. Age is not the only thing that makes a Vampires strength. Their lineage. Who they have fed on.. Ect. It's the only reason Louis was able to be formidable to Santiago is that he had been feeding on Armand. Louis is not inherently very strong in the grand scheme.
@-Arkin3317 сағат бұрын
@hypocritex Talking to the wrong one I think, I already know all of this. I come from the books, hardcore fan. And I didn't say Armand was a "match" for Lestat, none of them are, I said he was an "equalizer", within the parameters of the circumstance. That being that Lestat is clearly already very weakened (no spoilers), he's surrounded by a coven of Vampires, at least 3 of which are older than him. Which doesn't matter singularly, but as a whole... but then you add in Armand, and the fact that Louis' is completely dependant on Lestats careful choices. And yeah, all of that together, there was very VERY little Lestat could do. He also is not as prolific in the mind-gift as Armand, as shown. Armand can put an entire coven of Vamps down, like it's nothing. Lestats bleeding from his ears, withered and haggard from an audience full of just humans. Even ancient Vamps have nothing on Armand, when it comes to his mind gift. So you're right, but I still stand on exactly what I said 😉👌🏽

Also think of the whole Akasha thing as, Lestat gave his blood only a bit of the power. But Louis didn't embrace his power and Claudia couldn't use her full power because she was in a child's body.

I haven’t finished this video yet, but I love your conclusion that having given all your pain, choosing to accept lestat at his word isnt an act of weakness- it’s active self preservation and allows space for healing. i think that’s exactly what’s happening with louis as well in the end of this episode - he’s held that pain for all his immortal life and been under the influence of armand’s lies about their history for so long, and he is finally allowed to make his own choices and move forward. He can finally grieve and be confident in the truth of his life. the episode reflects such a powerful act of agency on louis’ part - its not about whether lestat is worthy of forgiveness, it’s about louis finding solace and understanding of his own life and finally feeling the full scope of the loss of claudia and paul. it’s like waking up. Frank said something that really made me think, because when he mentioned, how is Lastat took Claudia from the train, I did not put it together until now. A many times as I've watched this show, and as many reactions as I've watched, and as many conversations I have had with other viewers. Lastat said, at the end, I don't like the point out my virtues, he didn't pull Claudia from that train to torture her, he took her to save her. Lastat told her the vampires in Europe, are vicious, he knew she was heading that way, he knew they would kill her, and he knew, ultimately, that if she died Louis was unstable enough to tray and kill himself. Look at what he did to himself in San Francisco. O.M.G remember Louis said he thought about letting the sun take him, just staying there on that bench and in the morning all they would find was a pile of ashes and a walking cane. But he didn't want to ruin Claudia's escape the way Paul ruined grace wedding night by committing suicide on that night. We don't know when or for how Antoinette had been a vampire, so she might have heard louis' thoughts and told Lestat. We all know this would have frighten Lestat to his very core, so to keep Louis from self harm, he would have moved a hundred mountains to save him. So he tried to save her, he tried to save Louis from that heartache, even though the way it was all shown to us, the audience, it looked as though he did it just to spite her, he didn't, that's the way Claudia wrote it in her diary, and please think about it how many times as young adults did our parents do or say something that at that time, seemed so hurtful but it wasn't until we were grow, maybe raising kids of or own did we say or do something, say now I understand. Hine sight is 20/20 she wrote it that way not necessarily to lie but because she was still sometimes very much still a young teenager, it's how it felt to her. It looked like, Lastat was being an Asshole because that's how sue saw it, now we can see that Claudia miss wrote a lot of things. I don't believe for one second that he took her just to keep her there because...Think about it why would he want her to stay knowing that at every turn Claudia was Poisoning Louis mind against him and wanted Lastat to look the had eye to Louis. No Lastat would have wanted her to go, but because he would want Louis for himself. Think about it Lastat saved her life twice, that night Louis drug her home from the fire, and from running into danger that night on the train 🚂🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃. Other than Lastat, saving Claudia to save Louis. It makes no sense. I want to add to my commitments, I believe it was Lastat that saved Louis from the coffin not Armond. That's why Lastat didn't leave Paris, to me it's the only reason for him staying makes any sense at all, he was waiting for Louis, if he thought that Louis was going to die there he wouldn't have stayed, just like he left after Nicky died.

I like the idea that everyone had a chance to save Claudia at some point until the last minute, and were unable to. somehow her death symbolizes that she did not belong to that chaos, and that for louis and lestat it will be they punishment.
@-Arkin3321 сағат бұрын
No one could save her more than Armand, and he's literally the only one (of those who could save her) who actively chose not to. Lestat couldn't have saved her, because he physically couldn't have. He could only do what he did to save just one of them. Of course it's Louis. If he saved Claudia, Louis would have burned, which would have taken Lestat out as well. And then no one would have been there to save Claudia, cause we all know that Armand wouldn't have pulled her from the wall. And Madeleine would have still been burned as well... so if he saved Claudia instead, they all would've died. Not just Claudia. And no more show 🤷🏽♀️ Claudia's death was inevitable, that was/is the main point of her character, and that comes from Anne Rice. Her death is meant to symbolize the inevitability of her death, and the ultimate inability to save her from it. Again, that's Anne Rice. Working through the pain and mourning, etc of her own daughter and her loss

And Louis helped her get there, Armand made the decision to kill her, when he could have just left her to Madeliene. In their happy little home, outside of Paris. Growing flowers where they planted their dead. He chose all that. Louis and Lestat did not condemn her, they literally couldn't save her. This coven condemned her, literally. Armand condemned her. It doesn't change the past, it doesn't change their failures, but that is a fact. If there is actually blame for the enevitability of her death, it's on the coven and the coven master who literally CHOSE to kill her.
@erick789520 сағат бұрын
@-Arkin33 I couldn't care less about Armand, I'm Loustat to the end and that's why I put the responsibility on them, they failed as parents and that's it! Armand kills her because he is the bad guy, like i said she was nothing for him. And that's why both carry this burden of guilty wherever they go!
@-Arkin3320 сағат бұрын
@erick7895 I get what you're saying and I never said you were wrong. About the other things, but saying that Louis & Lestat "condemned" her is not accurate. They failed her as parents yes, but that has nothing to do with her death. They are all (again including Claudia herself) responsible for this outcome. All of them. But this coven and Armand killed her. Not Louis, not Lestat. Armand, specifically. Seeing as how he is the only one, realistically who could have prevented it, and/or could have saved her. Their remorse and grief and guilt, etc. Are because they could not save her. Her death was literally inevitable. It's a Canon event. They could not have saved her, no matter what they did or tried. Armand could have and chose not to. Their past choices and failure of her do not correlate, because it would not have changed anything. That's part of Louis' whole speech about the suit changes nothing. All roads led to the loss of Claudia, as Anne Rice wrote it.

I think that it will turn out that everything Louis and Armand said about Armand’s actions during the trial will turn out actually pertaining to Lestat: He was as much a prisoner as we were; He spent the entire time figuring out a way to save Louis; he could not prevent Claudia’s death.

Claudia, since she was a made as a child, but also being significantly younger, didn’t inherit Lestat’s « choice » over death. Her blood was too weak which is also why she couldn’t turn Madeleine herself :(

it's not just that saving louis took too much energy out of lestat. if you go back and rewatch the trial, you'll notice that something is really wrong with lestat, like he's REALLY off. the long moments of him zoning out, swaying on his feet, almost falling into his chair. people on twitter having noticed he has bruises on his hands that look like defensive bruising, and there's a bunch of imagery that suggest he's being mind controlled and isn't doing this of his own volition. plus i don't think louis, who's spent the last 80 years in a horrible relationship because he thought lestat was responsible for claudia's death (and left armand the second he found out he planned it) would go back to him if he wasn't sure that lestat wasn't a willing participant. (fuck those people for spoiling you with book facts tho i fucking hate when they do that it's so lame)

I think Lestat was shocked in the last episode. He thought that Claudia wholly hated him. So he may have felt like okay kill her, but when she looked back at him almost burned completely and him realizing she wanted him to save her and she did think of him as a parent that was supposed to protect her. I think those reasons is why Claudia will be a major part of grief and sadness and guilt for Lestat for centuries to come. Because if he had known that at the beginning, he would have saved her.

She really is in the center of the storm for Louis, Lestat, and Armand, and a defining force in how they exist in the wake of her death. It's truly a testament to her importance that, as much as the men in her life disregarded her and her needs, she becomes embedded in their everyday to the point of almost haunting them.

Your reactions to this show have been one of my favourites and have made me reflect not just about the different aspects of the show but of things in my own life. Thank you for the amazing work! Seeing you react to Louis and Lestat's NOLA conversation through your palpable grief for Claudia and Madeleine actually made me realise a few things. For most viewers, yourself included, Claudia's death is fresh. The wounds of her death are still stinging. For me, I have mourned Claudia in some way or another since +-1997/8 first through the movie and in the late 2000s when I finally read the books. The way I have mourned her has evolved both as I have matured (I was 6-7 back then) and developed and had life experiences. To me, mourning Claudia is something that always exists in the back of my mind. Warms my heart to see people feel for her so intensely. Which then prompted me to think: for Louis and Lestat it has been over 70 years. They lost their child. The grief is never gone, it's always there as a type of living thing inside them, but they are in a place so far removed from the moment she died, so far removed in time from the pain they have caused each other, that they can come to a place of platonic reconciliation. It circles back to both Louis telling Daniel that time heals and Louis in the "You and Me" speech telling Claudia that it doesn't mean they forget what happened. They'll just move on to the next stage in their life with the forgiveness they can give each other. I can't imagine forgiveness was easy for Louis to give in the slightest. But I think we all hope it brings him peace. Also yeah that final monologue---Louis is a badass. ^_^ Thank you again! ❤ And absolutely loving your Hannibal reactions too!

Thanks for sharing your journey through this show with us. ❤ Your grief over Claudia’s ending is so valid. The only thing I’ll say about Lestat’s part in it (no spoilers, I haven’t read the books), is that we only saw Armand’s version of that moment. Louis says really explicitly “ask him, I wasn’t there.” And we know at this point that Armand is NOT a trustworthy source on Lestat. I really am hoping that we’ll get Lestat’s version of the trial in the future, and I hope that in that version, he did try.

Wow! Is it terrible of me to say I loved watching your impassioned reaction to Daniel's reveal?? I always love your opinions and analysis, even if I may feel different. They are heartfelt and real! In the books, this event with Claudia is a keystone moment that has repercussions throughout the entire series. So, the show producers HAD to do this scene. Book readers all knew it was coming. Although, it did make more sense in the book, because Claudia was only five years old in the book. There was no way she could ever live her immortal life as a five year old child. She would always need a companion and a protector and, as Lestat told Louis, she would resent it for the rest of her life. She was an aberration in the Vampire world and Lestat knew she could not continue to exist. Plus, there is some of the book concerning this event that was left out, that I will not reveal in case it is used in future seasons. But, yeah, since the show had to age up Claudia, it is much harder to explain this event, because a 14-year old Claudia definitely could have lived on her own, or lived a life with Madeline. Thus, it was more tragic and makes Lestat, Louis and Armand way more complicate in the murder of their daughter.

As a book reader and having seen the movie from the 90’s I do try to compartmentalize all the different versions and take them on their own. But even with the best of intentions that’s hard, for me it’s the realization that I already was treating what happened to Claudia as a foregone conclusion or for other people having to pull from other media to justify their head canon for characters. Lastly, I generally prefer the changes the series goes with but making Lestat as involved in the play and pre-planning was a perplexing choice for me. But also we’re processing all this info over the course of an hour but the characters are experiencing these events over decades/centuries. 🤷🏻♀️ But I am just rambling now. I love this show and appreciate your reactions so much. ❤

You are such an incredibly thoughtful and considerate reactor. Thank you for being vulnerable with us. Claudia's death is something that none of us will ever recover from nor will any of the characters. Someone (I think the father of someone in the fandom iirc) said that everything in IWTV is about Louis and Lestat except for Louis and Lestat, which is about Claudia and I think that's right All that said, I laughed SO hard as soon as you clocked what Daniel was about to do at the dining room table 😂 You knew! I love how your jaw dropped at the reveal that he's a vampire And yeah, I can't watch Jacob's final scene without crying. I'm so proud of Louis. They did such an incredible thing when they made his reunion with Lestat one of grieving parents and not of romantic partners. "I'm companion enough for myself these days"! Incredible stuff Thank you so much for all of your thoughts about this show, all the time and energy you've put into these reactions. I hope you'll react to the s3 teaser if you haven't already and I'll definitely be checking out your other reactions while we wait for s3 of this show (I'm LOVING your Fleabag reactions). Claudia was a 5 year old white child in the book. So while I understand where you’re coming from, there was not intentional racial undertones in the original story. The fact that she was a vicious killer at that age was way more horrifying. The series gave Louis so much more depth and purpose than the books, which I love. Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson are the absolute best versions of these characters. I think Anne Rice would have been elated to see how they came alive in this series.
@mouse239015 сағат бұрын
I have to agree. When Claudia uses the word ''stoning'' instead of 'lynching' I think it's meant to harken back to the Salem Witch Trials, in which the ''trials'' were public spectacles with pre-determined outcomes meant to amuse and control the masses. Also, I think the show was trying to make it clear the differences in attitudes between Jim Crow Louisiana and Paris in that time---Jonah in S1 mentions that's why he enlisted to go to Europe, and Louis explains the more tolerant atmosphere to Daniel both in '73 San Francisco and present day Dubai. There is also the lore from Anne Rice herself, who said that vampires don't see race or gender as they are so removed from mortal ideals and prejudices.
@eskadit14 сағат бұрын
@@mouse2390i think claudia said "stoning" specifically because it was one of the ways that presumed nazi collaborators like madeleine were publicly punished.

@@FrankFreezy_ I swear it is. I already did not trust Armande and because I saw your reactions I paid attentions while watching. And we never hear what Lestat asks before he turned him. And the theater scene when we saw the other side, in my eyes where they the true scenes because Louis even says so, in with he says David he should write Lestats version. They both were extremly toxic and in this lives the trauma both of them. Also in the outside views Louis seemed to be in a Psychotic state - like he was after Claudia's death - whitch reminded me of Paul. Just a thought. Another thought is, that when Louis and Armand find Lestat in his Makers Lair and he says he thinks about why he does what he does, is why he hurts the people he loves. Why he couldn't save Claudia. Gor me it was the moment he decided to change. It is why he lets him go. The way how he asks if he hurt himself broke me, because not only his maker but Nicky too, kommited suicide. Everthing Armande told us, is unreliable. Even in regards to Claudia and Lestate. I also appreciated that they ended it with a hug and not with something romantic or sexual. Because there is soooo much care and Love in a hug that... It just felt, like they had to hold eatchother and have some more healing to do.

Lestat couldn't have saved Claudia because the gamble of saving Louis relied on his (correct) assumption that Armand's fondness for him will be reason enough to free Louis from the crypt. Had Lestat tweaked Claudia's sentence (and Jacob confirmed in the episode insider that Lestat had strength to do that once) she would've simply starved to death beneath the theatre because freeing her from there would have required for a weakened Lestat to take on the Coven + Armand alone. The Trial shouldn't be treated as an actual trial. It's literally a play with the verdicts that were decided beforehand.

Its frustrating to know that people spoiled some stuff for you to prove their point. I agree with you a 100%. I have not read the books or anything, so I don't know if there is a reason Lestat could not save Claudia. But whatever that reason is, it is completely valid to be frustrated with Lestat at this point in the story. If it was Louis under the sunlight, Lestat would have saved him. At least would have made an effort to save him or jumped into the sunlight himself. Let's see if we get any solid answers in season 3. I loved that reunion between Louis and Lestat because for the first time in the show, I was not questioning the unreliable narrator thing. Also for the first time, I was not doubting their words. Their sentences were plain and simple with no double meaning/intention or hidden feelings. Most of the emotions were exchanged through facial expressions. The only scene where I didn't doubt what was being said. Love that painting btw

✨Love your reactions. You’re so genuine! I have to say this is one of the only shows I’ve seen that at least attempts to examine racial and to a lesser extent historical (as in religious) attitudes and their consequences. It was very well handled, I thought in the first season, the racial disparity between Louis and Lestat. Even when he was portrayed as being the most sympathetic to Louis with his troubles as a black man; it was incidental awareness, not understanding on the part of the character Lestat. Coming from the Caribbean and being mixed race I felt they could have done more for the sake of the edification of their audience in season two. Thank you so much. I always saw Armand's facial expression in the scene with the 3 in Paris was agony. He will now never know if Louis would've truly chosen him. Louis was cold with him before that moment, he had no idea what their relationship would be moving forward. And then suddenly, Louis is kissing him, telling them that they'll be together for the rest of their lives. It's all he ever wanted. And the only reason he got it is because Louis knows that's what will hurt Lestat the most. 'That's your punishment, Lestat. Knowing we'll be together and happy' Louis says. Not 'I choose him. I love him.' Armand got to keep Louis, but he will always know it was just to spite Lestat When Lestat asked about what happened when Armand contacted him, I'm not sure where you were going with your comments, it seemed disconnected from the scene? Either way, I saw it as Lestat asking if that was even true, if Armand was just lying to him about it. It was also Lestat asking if he was ok now. It's entirely possible that Lestat wasn't even sure Louis was alive since that happened

Me watching as you keep commenting on why Lestat didn't do anything and isn't Armand powerful enough to step in, just knowing what's coming. :) I think what Louis meant with the Gift is that as time has gone on, he has found a better life now all this time later than he might have had if he died like normal. He gets to live as a wealthy gay black man and he likes the modern day, he is glad NOW to be alive, especially in concept of the whole tale that he just finished with Daniel. He thinks the time/life he has right now is a gift. I've subscribed to you a long time, so if you see this, I'd love to know if I can ask where your accent is from? "I don't know it was a gift" that was Louis finally accepting himself as a vampire. He give similar speech in the book after he tried to kill himself in the book. Lestat and 2 other vampires bathe him in their blood to revive him back. Louis tried to kill himself earlier in the series than in the book. I don't think they will repeat the same storyline in the series. More story can be explore with Louis character if he accepting himself as a vampire earlier in the series. Louis and Lestat can't be just friends(you will see why next season or you can read Lestat's official song for next season called Long Face. He was very specific about Louis 😂) because some couple just meant to be. They're toxic af together but they also crazy for each other. The entire book series to me is their journey getting back together. Spoiler *In the book, Louis and Lestat eventually going to get married.

Man, you are absolutely entitled to your opinions (even if they change afterwards). I too wondered why Lestat didn't save Claudia as well. In the book it makes much more sense: Louis and Claudia had dumped his body into a swamp rather than into the trash, so the Lestat that made his way to Paris was a weak creature that had been feeding off reptiles and other animals. In Paris he attends the trial and is absolutely powerless. Armand even "gifts" him with Claudia's yellow dress and then literally pushes him out of a tower. He is so hurt and weak it takes him years to return to New Orleans. I believe they made Lestat less pathetic and Armand less cruel to even the field...to portray that they are all quite the same in the end.

[sorry I’m going to be annoying and post multiple responses as I watch this finale review lol - I haven’t commented a lot through your vids but have always enjoyed them] So! For your intro before actually getting into the episode (and no longer having to worry about spoilers for the show/first book) : I am also really glad to see you discuss when you notice the racial dynamics in the show coming up - I don’t always catch all the nuance, and I think that’s a great aspect you can bring to the table to highlight. You put it very well that everyone brings something else to the table when it comes to upbringing to let you either interpret or catch nuance and symbolism in a piece of media - and learning more perspectives only enriches your experiences. ( I think I asked a while ago for this reason what your nationality was - as I was curious your perspectives you bring). So please don’t hesitate to discuss these qualities of a show to allow us to catch complexities we may not have otherwise! I feel you with Claudia - she was an incredible - and tragic - character - especially in this iteration. If it helps at all - some background: The entire reason the first book got written was Anne Rice processing her own very real grief about the loss of her young daughter to cancer. Louis took the place of her and Lestat her husband. Despite Claudia always feeling sidelined in her own life, I think this show as a whole (as in seasons 1-2, “interview with the vampire” were ironically actually all about Claudia. It was Louis processing his grief. That was absolutely the focus of the narrative - he gives the relevant background: how he became a vampire, what it means, but he skims so much of his life but is so focused on remembering - and recording - every aspect, every thought about Claudia. He ends his story shortly after she dies and he has revenge on her killers - Claudia is what he’s trying to recapture. Getting out his story - His reunion with Lestat - all of it is in service of processing that grief - and keeping her memory alive (in the dress on the way) but no longer still dead in his grief, as he has been since she died. (And I have also been watching MovieMan’s vids - his are great too - and ugh, I’m sorry that there have been people that have been making watching this incredible show stressful.)

I am sure this has been pointed out to you but.. Lestat may not have had enough power left to save Claudia.. even had he wanted too. Also, he knew she should have never been made to begin with. His one goal in this trial was to do whatever he could to save Louis. He did love Claudia though. EDIT: Just saw your editor note.

When you realize that Lestat would have tried to save all of them but he was too weak after using his ability

22:09 - Nah, that is so legit. This fanbase is intense. Good and bad. It's been intense probably since before I was even born, but definitely for every decade that I've been in it. This fandom is not perfect, this fandom can be a lot. This fandom can be both terrible and wonderful. That's so true, for better and for worse. It really brings the passion out in people, and I think the main thing this tv series has done right[ among the many things it has done right] is that it has continued to do the same(really bringing all that passion out in people). It's kinda wild to think just how much time has already passed since you finished this season-now MovieMan has caught up, too! 😊💖💖 For me, it's so hard not to just spoil everything sometimes because you three have such great thoughts and insights that I just wish I could get even more of them on even more things/aspects even though there's still so much that hasn't been explored yet and may or may not ever be. (But I know there are different motives from other commenters, too.) And I'm sorry, on behalf of that noisy minority, for all the struggles and mindfudge and need to brace for impact and such it can cause sometimes.
