@SynthMusicFan 501 On Relax, they were replaced by synths, but from Two Tribes onward he brought them back in. Mark O'Toole is a sound Bass player. Really.
@stephencampbell93842 жыл бұрын
On the recording it's a Fairlight sequence. However, if you check out the demo, pre-ZTT version, O'Toole's original Bassline sounds like Les Claypool and Peter Hook had a love child, there's mad high melodic playing, slap, nail rakes, the lot.
@stephencampbell93842 жыл бұрын
@SynthMusicFan 501 you may be right for the 7" single actually and maybe Carnage, other versions, eg. Annihilation, the main pattern is 100% sample.....albeit it's a sample of Mark rather than the factory slap sample which sounds like ass :D

Check out that band. The 5 Frankies, Steve Lipson, Johnny (JJ) Jeczalik, I assume that's Peter Oxendale rather than Trev Horn in the moon glasses, and I feel I should know the percussionist. I'd imagine every single part on this is hand played.....when the toured, Oxendale ran some sequenced stuff....hence Ped wearing cans for the clicktrack.

As noted on the ZTTAAT webpage. ' Frankie’s on-tour keyboard player Peter Oxendale comes across and compares his silly glasses with Horn’s trademark specs. “I’ve signed twenty Art Of Noise albums since I’ve been here, Trev. Everyone thinks I’m you.” Horn is aghast. “You’re joking, I can’t even play the keyboards.” '

@TiefTonMusik4 жыл бұрын
I guess it was Peter Oxendale on Keyboard, since he was the one who went on Tour with them at that time. Not sure if youre seeing Trevor Horn here backing the Vocals though as nothing like that is ever mentioned in Nashers book.

@@TiefTonMusik Looks like Trevor Horn at the back on the left hand side?
@TiefTonMusik4 жыл бұрын
It does look like him, I’ve got to admit that and that’s why I said „not sure...“. What made me think otherwise was just that I read that Trevor Horn didn’t even want them to tour in the first place and was sort of bashing their rehearsal on the last days or so of the rehearsal, so I thought the story could’ve ended on a kind of like „and then he does end up on stage with us afterall...“ note, know what I mean? I just wasn’t sure ´cause of that.
@EstuaryMists4 жыл бұрын
It looks like Andy Richards on keyboards (Roland Jupiter 8, Yamaha CP Piano and PPG Waveterm by the looks of it), JJ Jeczalik on the Fairlight II at the back and I believe Luis Jardim on percussion.

No antiwar song other Than Maybe Fight Fire With Fire, has music that truly conveys the manic, paranoid Chaos that is war as whole but the cold war specifically, the blistering frantic pace of the drum beat and the unrelenting death march of the Bass line shows two forces methodical yet insane, marching us all to certain and total oblivion of nuclear holocaust faster than they can blink let alone think

Interesting, just goes to show how much production went into thier songs, they didn't stand a chance of being able to replicate it live, hence the reason why thier live performances were known for being very watered down, lukewarm almost amateurish.
