As the youngest in my family my eldest brother used to play “If I was a tower of strength “ by Franky Vaughan. Sadly my brother passed some time ago so this song is very special to me.

Frankie Vaughan, touched my life in the mid 70s when he was a patron of the Phobics Society when I ran the Phobics Society Cleveland Area. He put a tea party on for us at the Dragonara Hotel Middlesbrough and invited the whole group to his show at the Club Fiesta in Stockton on Tees. We met him, Stella his wife and Andrew and Susan, two of his three children. What a genuine loving couple they were and I believe their home was called Fraydell a mixture of types of their names, I seem to remember him passing in Hospital. It's a long time ago RIP FRANK

Kind, generous and a surprisingly powerful build but not as tall as tv made you imagine. I was in the business and was surprised to meet him on the train when he came to Worthing, where I was visiting my family and he, to visit and calm relations between "The West Tarring Boys Club" and the "The Rose Wilmott Youth Center" in Durrington. The former had been a rough-house but his influence lived on after his visit!! I know! I had been a Worthing yobbo before bright lights called.

I remember seeing him perform on shows like The Good Old Days (a music hall revival show on BBC) and although his act wasn't the sort of thing I was into it was very obvious that he was extremely talented and he was a joy to watch. That cemetery is huge! You'd probably need an OS grid reference to find some of the graves. There's a large Jewish cemetery in Warsaw and the most notable grave is that of Zamenhof, the founder of Esperanto. Fortunately his grave is very easy to find. I'm very surprised Frankie Vaughan wasn't bigger in America but it's their loss.
