Damn, Frank is being savage today. Good. It's tough to take criticism or suggestions, but honestly, being a Designer myself it's A LOT better than having no feedback in the early stages, then management drastically changing things in the final stage of design. (10x as much work to fix). Get those rough sketches going and work them up to what you want, go into 3D, basic hard surface modelling, then add details. Get feedback at every stage. (I works as an exhibition & events Designer and this makes my blood boil!)

Yes it is a tough world and the sooner one learns that sugar coating does not exist in the industry, the better. When I was studying, projects would always get passed no matter what, and there was a general theme of not being overly harsh (even when it was clearly needed for some people to realize that they weren't doing an adequate job). One year we had a project with a major OEM and also had a new teacher/supervisor brought in, who didn't behave like the school policy would otherwise influence established teachers. Basically at the end he told everyone straight that they would all pass, but also said that in the real world the vast majority of our projects would not be able to meet the lowest industry standards. A passing grade does not mean doing well enough to be considered as a job candidate in the industry. Too bad this happened on last semester of the final year, so Frank giving harsh but true advice and criticism is really what everyone needs. It is NOT an easy industry to get into and stay in. It is one of the most competitive fields that exists.
@alfamonk2 жыл бұрын
@@Real_MisterSir true - but don’t blame the lecturers (I am one) - the university I’m in has a ‘pass first time policy’ where no-one can fail…to try and massage student satisfaction. It’s insane, especially in a discipline so competitive as this. Result is that really poor projects get passed…if not, management blame staff. It’s a slippery slope.
@Real_MisterSir2 жыл бұрын
@@alfamonk I'm blaming half and half (of course also heavily depends on which school is in question). In our case, I believe the school was just hungry for money so by passing everyone easily they ensured steady flow of yearly education fees instead of risking people dropping out after failed years. And a lot of the lecturers were definitely in on this, as some people who literally didn't work for half a year still got free passes. Very bad grades, but still passes. Right until 3rd year where people started failing a lot of courses because now the school didn't stand to gain more course fees, only re-exam fees. Some is of course speculation, but the consistency of this was just way too blatant (and was even called out by certain lecturers who weren't tightly associated with the school and the existing staff). Anyways, is just to say that I agree that it is so valuable to receive honest critique that isn't sugar coated. It is so incredibly valuable to aspiring designers and seniors alike.

If he can recreate the X5 slightly based off the E53, would be amazing. Latest X5 nothing but a rich Karen mobile besides the M. Original had this business, mean, ready to go fast but rugged bottom portion of the car, E70 carried the same principle, F15 you can tell it was starting to blend in with every other suv.
@itisjustacomment Жыл бұрын
@@aidenp5768They sold very well thou, and so did the X3. What needs to change is a modern restoration of the grill. I'm not liking most modern BMWs besides the 2 series or the new 8 series concept. I used to work for BMW car leasing so I've had many many cars from them, company cars. The older 125i with the inline 6 series was one of my favourites. Also, the X3 was fully loaded as most companies' cars were from them, never liked SUVs but its height perspective view was great and the 3 l diesel had enough torque was great. I had a few M's great cars the 3 series and 4 but I had to pay more and the ride /road noise wasn't the best and fuel was not so good. I far prefer the one model done in the 3-line six or even 2-lite turbo in the 1 or 2 series. Funny enough if I were buying one, I would go for the cheaper 2-series as the market it's based in is saturated so prices are good I wouldn't get the M engine but rather the 2-litre turbo at 255 bhp or 240i just under 400bhp x line, not rear-driven, the coups very well proportioned and green and purple look great.

Guy: submits a paper with one straight line from point A to point B. Frank: now this is great but to take it to the next level you need to simplify it. In my opinion, beautiful car design is not limited to super cars. Just look at what Peter Schreyer achieved at Kia motors. He's created some good-looking and sensible cars for this company. Then again, I think that most people just couldn't give a shit which awful looking cars they drive. This is evident when you see how many Nissan Almera's and Chris Bangle era BMW's are on the road.
