Thanks for your review... you ask some good questions! Here's how I looked at it, prior to purchasing my 2022 Model Y Performance.... I purchased it for around $65k, plus tax. Searching the web right now for used 2021 Model Y's, just as a sample, CarGuru has a 2020 Model Y long range, with over 12,000 miles, and they're asking $65,700... a 2021 Model YLR with 3,772 miles, they're asking $68,000... a 2020 Model Y Performance, with 13,125, they're asking $61,950. My point is, if you purchase a Tesla Model Y, keep it for a few years, you're probably going to get back a large portion of your money. Wait times for a new Model Y, LR is October 2022, or, if you upgrade, maybe June 2022. Most people do NOT want to wait that long, so they'll get a clean, used Model Y, pay nearly the same price as a new vehicle, but they'll have it today! Safety is also a major factor for me, and Tesla's have had the highest safety rating from the NHTSA of any car.... Overall Rating 5 Star, Frontal Crash 5 Star, Side Crash 5 Star, Rollover 5 Star! Not only did the Model 3 have all 5 Stars, but Tesla IMPROVED the Model Y which is based on the Model 3, and made it even safer than the Model 3. Alot of factors go into choosing a vehicle, not the least is where you live and the climate! I'm in sunny California, so I don't have to deal with lost range due to freezing weather. I typically don't drive over 50 miles a day, so if I get 300 miles on a full charge, or only 250 miles, or even 220 miles... 90% of the time, I simply don't care! It'll easily give me my 50 miles a day! I charge every night, and have a full (well, 90%) battery in the morning. Thanks again for an informative review! The good news is... if you really HATE your Model Y, you won't have much trouble selling it!

Thanks for your comment, this is a great perspective. Its almost unheard of to have a "car" appreciate in value over time, Dave ramsey would eat his own words right now . I think if I lived in a warmer climate the range issues for sure would not matter to me, but for now I suffer up north lol. I agree with you for quick trips around town and non long distance travel the range is perfectly fine. I wish tesla offered lease buyouts XD Thanks for your comment!

I have a model 3 and just ordered a Model Y. Things I dislike are: the seatbelt cannot be adjusted well enough for short people and goes up against my neck. The steering wheel is too thick for me. Doesn't have a heads up which you would expect with this technology. Should have blind spot indicators in the side mirrors. Things I really like are: feels great to drive, so much power. Non cluttered interior (I hate all the buttons in other cars and have never figured out what they all do). Great voice commands which is really my go-to for making changes. Easy charging at Tesla and non-Tesla chargers. Holds the road well. So easy to use basic functions like cruise control. The most fun car I have ever owned, hence why we have bought another!

I recently was on vacation, driving my Tesla model Y a total of 1200 mi. I spent $110 total at Tesla Superchargers. I have solar panels for charging at home. I would have used about 50 gal of gasoline at $5 per gallon for $250 with my previous ICE compact sport utility. The Tesla superchargers were ubiquitous and convenient. Also at least 8 chargers at the locations and open 24/7. Stops were about 20-30 min which was no big deal since pit stops at restrooms, snacks, coffee, etc. are usual in any vehicle. I'll see in the longer term about lower needs and costs for maintenance?

It always nice to hear what others opinions are, it seems many things you don't like about the model Y were done to bring down costs, overall maintenances, and increase the efficiency at factory level due to a lot less parts. If the vehicle were to have a more fancy interior, better interior lighting, bigger rear mirror (which isn't even not necessary), adjustable moon roof, moon roof cover, an extra screen for your speedometer, you'd be paying a MUCH higher price. The vehicle is price more on the performance and safety components.

Turn it to % the mileage depends solely on how you’re driving-speed and regen dependent. I drove my model 3 350miles on chill mode and backroads, had 30% battery left from a full charge when we left.

driving pleasure is the only factor that somehow justifies the purchase of the Tesla at 65K. if you mute it - a 25K CRV or CX-5 offers a better value-proposition in comparison. you upfront save almost 40+ grand and also get a car with more bells and whistles. the MY has quality issues, no luxury, no premium feel, horrible cabin noise, poor ride quality - but why is someone still ready to pay a hefty price? because of it's driving dynamics, not to buy and drive in chill mode. its like buying a 100K Porsche Macan and driving it in eco mode all the time to save money on gas.

You should probably contact Tesla and let them know, because they specfically list on their website that "Chill does not directly improve driving range, but using the increased torque and power available in Insane or Ludicrous mode can reduce range and efficiency"...but you were able to get over 400 miles of range just by using Chill mode even though Chill mode is simply a limiting acceleration function for those who have lower self control and do launches and crazy acceleration. Hmmm...very interesting.

You were probably the most honest Tesla owner I have heard so far on reviewing your Tesla. No question Musk dazzled everyone with this futuristic technology of a vehicle. He really wasn't going the luxury, style or comfort with these since as you mentioned are better options with those features. You mentioned the same complaints I seen in other Tesla videos, the sun roof, minimized interior, horrible riding, collision sensors, actual driving range (where we have a new phrase - "range anxiety"), etc. What about those tires, have you replaced them yet as they wear out pretty fast. Also temperature effects the battery negatively whether it's cold or hot weather. How about waiting time for getting your Tesla charged, you didn't mention that. I've seen some videos where there multiple Tesla's lined up at a Super Charging station. I guess you are leasing so you won't have to worry about after warranty repairs which I have seen many of those and they are not cheap. The really reason folks buy these cars is purely for saving on gas and maintenance, but really if you keep this car for 10 years how much money will you really save including maintenance.

I'm new to Tesla, 2 months into our MYP. It's a 50/50 love/hate relationship. Love the acceleration and brake regen. Love having the cabin preheated and ready to go. Love the way the steering feels. Charging at home and waking up to a full....well 80% battery. I love the button for the door. I hate? The cruise control and autopilot are useless. The car uses AT&T, so if you live or work in a bad reception area, you lose a ton of features, even voice commands stop working. The cameras don't work when it's too dark or they fog up. The safety alerts are obnoxious and not even close to being right(It warned me a car was stopping, after the car had already turned and left). The basic electronics don't seem any better than basic ice cars. My phone as key doesn't work a few times a week. App can't connect multiple times a week to preheat cabin. Spotify doesn't always auto play. Car has issues with phone calls and volume. Heck, last week at lunch it left the car running in my drive way after I parked it(Now I worry about it not shutting off after parking). Auto wipers and Auto Hi Beams are probably worst in class. Frunk is a pain to use. No spare tire. Poor suspension. The Glass! I feel like I'm getting sunburned and it's not even summer yet. Nav is meh. Voice commands is okay but leaves a lot of room for improvement. I don't like the new UI, I feel like it was a step backwards. Auto climate is great for me but my better half hates it and always uses manual. Adjusting heated seats up and down for rear passengers is lame. Cloud of smoke/steam from the front of the car due to the heat pump. Delay engaging drive after pressing the brake pedal when first entering. Lagging cameras.

You don't have to look away from the road to see your speed limit any more than with a front console. .. Upper left hand corner... a nano second glance... easy peezy.... And all the entertainment and climate functions can be controlled by voice command, including windshield wipers, and fan speed. I love the minimalistic design. I'm glad Tesla didn't waste any money on a front console. .... And my wife loves it because she said that the front display lighting, even when on dim, has always bothered her a night. ..... And the moon roof has ultra-violet filtering, meaning you can't get a sunburn. ...... And dang, man. I'm getting 275 miles at highway speed, which is not EPA. ..310 miles driving around town. I even drove 233 miles one day with temp getting as low as 12F. I got an implied range of 245 miles with snow tires, and seat heating and heated steering wheel on, and cabin temp at a toasty 77F. ..... I know how much kWh my Model Y is consuming and it works out to $39 for 1000 miles of range. My wife's similar sized gas SUV costs about $190 to go 1000 miles.

Hope it will be produced in Texas and come with 4680’s. I’m 71 with an incurable blood cancer (multiple myeloma) and have a likely misplaced belief FSD will actually work in the next 12 to 24 months. Have major concerns with vehicle’s fit and finish, ride quality, lack of HUD and range which are at least partially offset by Tesla’s Supercharger network and technology. There’s a chance I’ll give up the $250 deposit and go for something like the Iconix 5. Hey Bill. So sorry to hear about your condition. I took delivery of MY LR 10 days ago with a similar configuration to yours. If you'd like another opinion, I'd say skip the FSD. The cruise control on this car is terrible and FSD only exasperates it. Some things they don't tell you when you order it, in Auto Steer and FSD, you are forced to have the auto high beams on which means when your driving on the highway at night, the car will flash drives in front of you and oncoming traffic very very often. I felt like such a jerk the first time I tried to use it at night and I'm sure every other car on the road hated me as well. This can't be turned off if you use FSD... FSD on the highway is not very reliable. Mine changes lanes randomly even if there isn't another car around. It will also try to cut cars off while they are approaching on the left and doesn't give enough time to get into an exit lane when exiting the highway. Even using just the traffic-aware cruise control, you will get A LOT of phantom breaking. Yesterday on a country two-lane state route, my Y would rapidly decelerate, accompanied by an annoying beeping, more than 10 mph every time an oncoming large truck passed. Thank goodness no one was behind me, but it makes the cruise control close to useless unless you keep your foot on the accelerator. (So much for a relaxing car ride through the country) Save the money on FSD and take a really nice vacation instead.

I think you make some solid points about the frustrations of range not being as advertised. Honestly, I haven't seen an electric car that has ever been close to what is advertised, but I will say the model Y's range is suitable for probably 99% of the population. I live in Arizona and am on an EV electric plan that allows me to pay .06 cents per KW to charge this thing over night. Which has resulted in my electric bill only increasing by a few dollars every month. I do think in a perfect world. 450 miles of range would be ideal to combat all the variables that lead to not getting those EPA estimates. I don't like the small window out the back too, but the technology and safety features of the car are incredible and make up for the lack of visibility. Also, I purchased a sunroof to cover the pano roof during the summer months, and that is a feature I still love about the car. I will add that I think everyone should tint their vehicle the moment they get it to help cut down on the greenhouse effect. Lately, I love your critique about the nuances of doing simple task like opening the glove box or adjusting the A/C. These thing are way more complicated than they need to be, and I really hope in the future they can go back to using manual processes. Thanks for sharing your opinion!

Wow! Nicely done…..after totaling my prius…..i wanted an ev…..i wasnt sure i would like one, so i chose a cheap one to whet my appetite. I bought a little fiat 500e. The car has been fun to drive, however…..my range is much, much less!! I live in south miami…….i have run out of juice just driving to the edge of city! I wish i had a lot more range.. but this was an experiment. I can hardly believe that i have now driven this car for over 4 years with few incidents…. I have to plan my trips carefully. I work for an airline….so there were no road trips…..i just used it basically for little short trips & to work. I have saved a ton of money. I have bought no gas for 4 years! I have had little maintenances except for tires….and for this little car, they were quite cheap! .. i have been learning a lot about teslas over this time……i understand that driving habits and using a/c, heat, etc can affect your range…..however, using the heated seats has no bearing…..when it does get a bit cold….i simply turn on the heated seat & keep my range. I’m sure this car has little suspension….but i tend to buy smaller cars…..( just a preference). I have my order for my LR MY and it is slated for a june delivery. I plan to have all windows tinted as the so fla sun can really heat ! If that doesnt work, i think they have some type of covers…… I’m also getting as much PPF as i can afford…my only thing i would hate would probably be that i love listening to satellite radio.. so i will just have to use my phone. This will probably be the biggest car i have ever owned….& my first SUV>. But i think i will live…,i hope the quality is better…….i guess I’ll have to wait & see on that one….. you threw a lot of hate at your car…..& yet you wear a TESLA hoodie! Lol! I do understand…….i hope that i can deal with these problems !! Right now there are a lot of EV’s coming and many are less expensive…..that Fisker looks awfully good! I’m in it for the long run……i like that Tesla has a network of chargers where i simply won’t have to worry…..and the future just looks better…..since they have been in the game for much longer than most…… i hope your car experiences get better! Good luck!!

I’ve had my Model Y for two weeks. I have very few issues with my MY. Mine is a 2023 and I was surprised how good the ride quality is after hearing so many complain. I agree with the comments regarding the panoramic glass roof. I hate it! I have a shade on order to take care of that. I drive 90 miles one way, to and from work 7-8 times a month and so range hasn’t been an issue. I agree with Franklin on many of the things he said but not everything. The interior is fine for me, although, I do miss an adjustable headrest. Out of all that I have said, I am very happy with my purchase. I’m even thinking of maybe getting a Model X. I should also say that I used to drive premium Mazda CX5. My wife drives that now 😂. I do miss my HUD though. Tesla needs to get one immediately. Everyone’s mileage varies(no pun intended) but the truth is I enjoy my Model Y. Some won’t.

After having it back for 3 weeks the heater went out . Temperatures here in SW Ohio 10s - 40s. Most relevant though is the amount of power used - I too felt lied to about the "range". Good points on the negative side - small rear window, hot glass roof, real-world range and a few more. I like the minimalistic interior design, however, as it is less distracting and less cluttered compared to a knobs-and-buttons design. I don't check my speed much at all with maybe a glance infrequently. In my ICE car I look at the instrument cluster and think: 'what do I care what RPM I'm hitting?' and do I really need to see the water temperature all the time? The Cruise Control settings like following distance? Meh! In the Tesla there are no gear selections so that's just like an automatic transmission. I do like the voice commands but one problem is if you want to turn the radio volume down while talking to your partner, you have to interrupt that to have a little conversation with Siri or whomever! As for the UI change with V11, I never drove the earlier version UI so it's no disruption at all for me but I do understand it's a bit jarring for many. Probably boils down to personal preferences from what you are used to driving and what you like to do with a car such as down-shifting for power, etc. Thanks for the rundown - well done.

You’re are 1000 percent right, especially regarding the range not being accurate at all, I just got mine, and find myself charging it several times a week and I’m driving no more then 3-4 miles 3 times a week. They need to update the battery life. It’s not much range at all. I’m from the North East as well, surrounded by high rises, our supercharges are in parking garages so you have to pay just to enter the garage on top of the charging fee. A bit misleading. I live in a high rise that doesn’t have EV charges capability, so I need to charge it in a random parking garage. Appreciate the technology aspect but the range is misleading which discourages me from adding the engine booster since it will drain the battery faster.

Thank you for a very honest video. I agree with you that some of the features that are "gimmicky" just so that Tesla can tout their difference from other cars, unfortunately, those are not usability or ergonomic improvement and in fact annoyance if not safety concerns. The other are poorly designed and glitchy features/functions like phantom braking, rolling stops, poor rear visibility, over reliance on software superiority over human control, and over reliance on the main screen to control the simplest things. But the thing that bother me the most is the shoddy quality like fit and finish, cheap plastic and materials for $60K-$125K cars and the fact that it's been 7+ years and Tesla still send shoddy final products to their customers. I mean, what other cars do customers have to do finger testing on the gaps of car panels when they take delivery of their car, what other cars do fellow customer recommend immediate paint coat proofing or coating to protect leather seats from staining, etc. For all of the geniuses and tech wizards and brilliant engineers Tesla have, why don't they have those people work on the quality stuff, it's been 7+ years now and we still see the same problem. I don't see customers do that to $18K subcompact cars and we have Tesla customers thinking these things are the norm? Don't get me wrong, I would be the first person to giving a standing ovation for Tesla's innovation and pushing other car mfrs to offer more EVs but the quality and questionable designs do not belong to cars of this price range. I know the reality is that wealthy people can buy whatever they want and they can live with the final product but since when do luxury products have such deficiencies, be it cars, clothes & shoes, watches, etc?

the recc to charge to only 80-90% is not to get the full range (wonder what he was thinking when he said that lol) it's to preserve long term battery health. If going on a road trip, sometimes charging to 100% is needed. Also short range doesn't mean extra electricity, it's just proportional to your miles driven. And even if using supercharging all the time, it's still cheaper per mile than gas. Cost per mile is the key metric. The shocks seem to be a common point of concern. Hope Tesla hears that and fixes it.

I test drove a 2022 Model Y and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 this week. I totally agree and am having a very tough time deciding which to go with. The driver experience, features, ride quality, etc is much better on the Hyunadi. It also has 800v fast charging which will charge faster than the MY. The downside is less storage space, much lower towing capacity, I don't like the outside looks as much on the Hyundai, and I don't know what resale value would be like in the future. Tesla with the new Korean EV's def has some serious competition, for anyone who doesn't care about the super techie features of the Tesla, they would be hard pressed to get it over the Hyunadi Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, or soon to be launched Genesis GV60.

I'm in the process just now looking at videos all about EV's because I want one. Your video was great. As far as the glass roof goes IF I got the model Y the first thing I'd do would be to take it to a tint shop. Another thing I've heard talked about are noises (squeaks and rattles), fit and finish and generally lower quality materials that what you might get from other manufactures. Last but not least has to do with the lack of instrument cluster and the smallish text one the video screen (I wear "reading glasses" so I can read text) and it would be very uncomfortable having to put 0n and take off while trying to access functions.I think ALL manufactures over state the range though. As far as 0-60 times when do you actually NEED to go 0-60 in under 4 seconds the Plaid 0-60 under 2 seconds I'd rather have more range and sacrifice lightning fast acceleration. My Alltrack 170hp is plenty fast enough 0-60 around 7 seconds more than enough for "normal driving.

When I got my 2018 Model 3, the voice commands were one of those promises that hadn't bear any fruit at the time. It was worse than useless... at the time. Also, the autopilot actually felt dangerous. The regular updates had transformed the car over a period of time. And, while it's the same car from 2018, it is night and day different with what I have now. The voice commands work like my Android and I've never felt safer. That being said, people need to take a hard look at what they want because, if nothing else, Tesla has changed the paradigm as to how people should be looking at cars now. Much like Apple had changed how people utilize their phones. And you can see other manufacturers picking up the ball. It's a good time to switch to an EV. Tesla or not. This is a good review, but it should be noted that the range data for these cars is determined by the EPA - not by Tesla or other manufacturers. @getreal7217

Your comments on range didn't seem to match the specs for a new Tesla Y nor my own experience. A new Tesla Model Y LR gets 330 miles of range EPA. Tesla increased the battery size in the Y a few months ago and drivers actually get close to the rated range in good weather. Of course cold weather reduces this but with the new heat pump and octovalve this is now also minimized. Also, if you need to keep warm for a prolonged period sitting n cold weather a Tesla has camp mode that you can engage to keep everyone warm with minimal energy usage and no fumes to inhale. I have a new Model Y and absolutely love it. Another thing people need to consider when comparing a gas car with say 400 miles of range to a Tesla Y with 330 miles of range is that if you charge your Tesla every night to 90% (295-300 miles) thats more than enough for daily driving even for a long commute. One way to think of it is that not only on average will your Tesla have 300 miles in the battery in the morning, in fact it will never deviate from this range every single morning. That's an amazing feeling. By contrast your 400 mile BMW ICE car one morning may have 375 miles but other mornings will inevitably have 120 miles or 60 miles. In other words so there's no avoiding having to drive to the gas station and sometimes, as we all know, when we least want to on the way to an appointment. So I would take the Tesla scenario every day of the week all year long. So in my view having a Tesla Model Y is just a better experience. Your concerns here are more valid if you can't plug in at night but for people who can, it really is a great experience. I'm never going back to ICE for this reason and for many others.

I am in the market for a new SUV and Tesla was one of my options. I test drove the Model Y and have to say that like everyone, I love the speed and acceleration. But that is where it ends. When you are on the road, there is very little you can adjust due to the lack of buttons. The exterior looks nice from afar, but once you come in close, everything looks cheap. The interior was even worse. Everything on the inside looked like they used extremely cheap quality materials and were cheaply put together. One KZbinr said it best, you paid for a Mercedes but it feel and looks like a Kia.

Good info about UI, moonlight roof etc. Thank you! But the range complaints barely have anything to do with this car since Model Y has one of the best range in this price range. So you're comparing apples to oranges here.

LOL, You feel your range sucks?....I've got a model Y SR unicorn which had a rated range of 244mi. and of course would be lucky to get 200!

My thoughts on my 2022 after 5,000 miles EXACTLY…except I’ve not noticed the windshield wiper issue, I hate all the hard black plastic inside my “WHITE” interior, if there’s a way to hang up a call on the steering wheel without having to take my hand/eyes off the road, I’ve not found it, and WHY ON EARTH wouldn’t the screen automatically come with a 360* rotation option?

Agreed on all your points! Been driving my YLR for a month and have mostly pros about it, but it's far from perfect. The pros outweigh the cons for me tho overall and I'm really curious how the newer models will improve over time. Subbed!

First off thanks for the sub! and yes i'm with you on that its like bad, but at the same time so good. Im looking forward to the new 3/Y refresh, I think the battery update and hopefully some interior updates will make the experience a bit less painful 😅

Is it easier to look at the sky with black seats as compared to the white seats because of more light reflected by white?

I cross-shopped a Tesla Model 3 and BMW 340i for a couple years. It was a tough decision for me, but I ended up going with the BMW recently. Cost was very similar, but that cost seemed to be more justified in the BMW. Do you prefer your BMW or the Y?
@FranklinReid_
@FranklinReid_ 2 жыл бұрын
I 100% prefer my BMW over the Tesla Model Y at least, if we had an X or an S which is higher quality im not sure if that would change my opinion at all. As of right now if we did get a 2nd ICE car it would absolutely be an X3 or X5 though I can tell you that much. Im also interested to check out BMW and Audi's EV's they seem to be the best of both worlds im just afraid of the charging america network. id really rather wait for other manufactures to start using teslas super charger network.

That glass roof needs blinds exterior interior getting boring, for that money for long range, d motor etc it’s looking meh . Waiting for bigger better battery, motors, interior, quality materials etc.

I have a model 3. There is no gear to look down to. And as far as looking at your speed. Even in a "normal " car I never moved my head to look down. My eyes can glance.

I agree with you for everything you mentioned in ur video, I live in the north east , my 2022 y doesn’t match my Previous RX 450h. But I always thought , that it’ll take some time getting used to it. The best advice I got from someone to avoid the panic of running out of range is to keep my old car , I don’t drive much in the snow ,but when I do my mom comes along and I have to keep the car on for warmth. Sadly I have to wait for good weather to be able to explore it more. It has been 2 months and I only have 200 miles on it. Do you think I should charge it every day or if it’s at 80% not hook it up? That’s my biggest question and I got different messages from u tube videos?

Glad you got a chance to check out the video, if your not driving it not need to hook it up, you'll notice the battery drain a bit but that's ok. THe range anxiety wears off after a while, I had both cars before the lease on my BMW ran out and it helped with that but once I gave it back as long as I wasnt traveling too far I felt ok, also the super charging network is super strong and you can always find a charging station at least here in the tristate area [NY/NJ/CT] hope this helps, and congratulations in the acquisition

I have a RX 350 and thinking of trading it in for the Y as well. Do you regret the decision or was it the best decision you have made? I am also in the NY area and have tons of superchargers actually 3 within 1/2 mile from where I live.. would you buy this again over the Lexus?

@@happyhippo1710 Hi , no I don’t regret my decision after I got comfortable with my y( especially with gas prices now) But also , I only have 600 miles on it since end of December . Keeping the Lexus gave me a piece of mind. Good luck 😊
