Buying a car for close to $70k I find it a bit wierd that one of the complaints would be that you have to spend $400 for a proper charging infrastructure. Just for the sake of comparison, I had to pay $2800 for the charging system I have here (Norway), granted it is a 400V system. but still, What's eating up your savings is buying a car for 67k, not paying $400 for an upgraded charging system :P

The model Y costs over 90k in Canada now. The model 3 is around 70k for the standard RWD. These cars are ridiculously priced these days. The cars themselves are not even CLOSE to that cost. The model 3 is closer to a 30 or 40k vehicle. At a 70k budget, I would rather buy an Ionic 5. You get more bang for your buck with that and unlike the Model 3, is a properly well designed vehicle with good quality materials and build. The ride is way better too. You even get more tech than a Tesla, which surprised me.

$70000 US dollars to have sub par paint quality - connectivity issues - low profile tire issues - a small rear window design - charging issues as with every electric car on the market - any problem can only be fixed by Tesla - only Tesla parts can be used - the battery declines with age - rapid declining resale value . Tesla is not only one company have paint issue. Look at BMW Mercedes Toyota Honda, all those have problem with their paint in general. BMW with low profile tires or any car with low profile will have the same loud noises, like my BMW M3. Small rear widow design? Look at BMW X6 Rear view window (comparable - BMW X6 vs Tesla model Y). Charging issues? You can drive a Tesla from LA to New York with no issue. Problem can only be fix by Tesla? BMW isn't the same? Sure you can bring to an unauthorized shop same with Tesla. Battery decline with age? BMW or any other car engine also decline with ages, too. How many old BMW do you still see, not many, unless you really taking good care of it.

Gee what happens if your phone gets lost or stolen or dies. Guess you will be walking home. I would never buy this car as it is too complicated to be reliable regardless of its performance and tech. Plus I would worry about cell phone service dead zones and batteries are fire and explosion hazards as any submariner knows plus they are not environmentally safe to dispose of in land fills. Nothing really green about this vehicle as the batteries are toxic and will pollute ground water. I doubt the battery life is half what Tesla claims it is such that the resale on these things will absolute crap as after 7 to 10 years the batteries will have degraded from cycling and age and will be evermore worthless and pose a real fire and explosion hazard as the interval replacement of the batteries would cost as much as the depreciated value of the Tesla which means these things will be catching fire, exploding, losing capacity or failing littering junk yards in 10 years as no one is going to buy a 7 to 10 year old Tesla and spend $25K to replace the batteries which will damage by calendar aging (cathode/anode degradation and lithium plating) and recurrent recharging (passivation layering and electrolyte oxidation) Would love to know where all of the batteries will be disposed off - perhaps we can dump them into bodies of fresh water where they can explode and burn underwater. Tesla knows that full charging and discharge to maximize range will lead to greater and faster battery life degradation due to depth of discharging. Moreover, even if the batteries are only charged to no more than 80%, the battery capacity will degrade by as much as 20% due to cathode and anode damage and lithium plating over several years. Even if the car sits in the drive way and is hardly ever driven, degradation occurs as a result of calendar aging due to passivation layering and electrolyte oxidation. Plus in extremely hot and cold climates, battery performance degrades faster over time such that these vehicles are good only for leases and definitely not a car you will drive for 10 to 15 years especially given the crap build quality. Moreover the built in touch screens means these cars have a product lifecycle equal to an I-phone and will be functionally obsolete within a few years. I would rather buy a supercharged Jaguar F Pace and pay for the gas. Spending 20 minutes to charge the car is not something I am down with especially since finding a super charger location is usually a 15 mile drive since there are not too many stations. The styling is hideous and the gull wing doors won't open in a parking garage. Plus driving is joyless and about as much fun as riding an electric bicycle. Would much rather have the AWD from JLR which kicks ass in the snow. Can't see paying so much for a car which is just plain ugly like an AMC Pacer. Give me the eye candy Jaguar F Pace SVR or V 6 Supercharged V 6. The Jaguar I Pace is not as advanced but it is a damn sight more stylish inside and out and frankly a lot more fun to drive. Still, I like the F-Pace which beats the Mercedes and Porsches hands down in the snow and off-road. A Tesla is a like a very high priced gaming lap top. For 90% of people, they don't need it and the controls to adjust to seat, mirrors and steering wheel settings are just a total PIA to use especially if more than one person drives the car. As for top speed, again, if you really plan to drive over 100 MPH, I would want a RWD biased AWD system found in the Jaguar F Pace supercharged SVR or S model to the Tesla as the Tesla is not a great handling or an enjoyable driving car by any stretch of the imagination whereas the F Pace drives like a tall XF wagon (sport break) and is almost as fast and much better handling. The Tesla is like a $5500 gaming lap top. It is all fine and good but 95% of people could do just fine without all the cost and tech and be very happy in a more enjoyable to drive Jaguar that you can gas up by driving 2 miles to a petrol station verses looking on your phone for the closest supercharging station 10 to 15 miles distant. Self driving cars are a fool's pipe dream as are self-flying planes that land and take off on their own. Drones require human control especially in high traffic areas full of congestion and animals and pedestrians. Optical sensors and radar can easily be spoofed and result in false braking and uneven performance. When a deer jumps through the windshield, the Tesla is not going to be any safer than a Jaguar F Pace and likely less safe given its windscreen angle and lower ride height. Finally the Tesla is just so damn ugly and so common as to be nothing special which is the antithesis of a high priced luxury vehicle brand. It says about the owner that I have no sense of style and no individuality and would drive a hideous Toyota Prius if they put a Tesla badge on it. Anyone who enjoys looking at their car in their drive way and who values aesthetics would not be caught dead in a Tesla which is about as sexy as a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. Can't wait for hackers to hack the software updates with ransomware which is inevitable. No thanks, I will keep my supercharged Jaguars over the Tesla. The tech in the Tesla is not worth the crappy interior, ugly styling, compromised handling and poor quality control with horrible paint (like GM in the 70s and 80s) and styling like that of the Pontiac Aztek or AMC Pacer.

Greedy UK government trying to eat their cake and have it. They’ve always over relied on excessive fuel taxes from motorists, to shore up the finance coffers. Did you know UK motorists are taxed TWICE for each fuel fill up? They’re heavily taxed on the price of fuel; they pay £0.579 fuel duty per litre of fuel, and then the total amount per litre is taxed again at 20.7p (value added tax). Blatantly shameless rip off. They’ve lost so much income tax on electric vehicles and hybrids, so now they’re trying to claw it back with cynically punitive financial penalties for buying an expensive zero emission vehicle - pure and unbridled stupidity if you ask me!

Hi Cody, Excellent video, well balanced with pros and cons. I own a 2021 model 3 LR . I had to drop it off for service and they lent me a 2020 model Y std. I am very impressed with the extra room and higher ride position, but one thing that put me off is the road noise coming from the tires on the Highway. I seriously thought there was something wrong with it. I don't think i could handle it on a daily basis. It wasn't the Performance model, just std range on 20 in rims. Our M3 on 18 in OEM rides a lot better and is quieter. Hopefully they can improve on this in the next couple years which is when we would like to trade up to a Y.
