I think i can talk by the side of all the Italian fans: we're all deeply saddened. If charisma had a face, it should be him. We have lost one of the 4, 5, true legends of the game, and in my opinion, the last one alive. This is a very sad day, rest in peace, kaiser! I can't explain in words how much respect I had for this man. Condolences to Germany from Italy.

Bobby Charlton and Franz Becenbauer both gone in months, two absolutely legends, fantastic players, who cancelled each other out on the pitch, Beckenbauer once said that when they saw Bobby Charlton being substituted (rested for the semi) in the 1970 WC QF with Germany behind, that they thought they now had a good chance. When I was a kid playing football I always had Der Kaiser in my head, one of my favourite players of all time.

The game against Sweden at the 1974 World Cup is one of Beckenbauer's best performances, 4-2 to West Germany in the rain, Sweden had a great side that year, great goalie in Ronnie Hellström who passed away last year. Germany had Sepp Maier and an all-round great side, but Beckenbauer controls that match, it's an amazing performance. Rest in peace, Franz, he was truly one of the greatest to ever play the game.
