Yesterday I was in a park and two teenage girls were playing hide and seek, but I didn’t know that. One girl was walking around going “Olivia? Olivia? Olivia?!“ It was getting pretty annoying but I thought she must be looking for her pet. I was eating with my dog but finally I thought I might help her look for it so I asked “Who is Olivia?” . The girl said “My friend”. I said “I thought it was your cat” without thinking of Frasier. Her friend popped out of a tree she had climbed. I walked away but then I suddenly thought of Frasier and imagined the first teenager turning and hissing at me “She is not a cat!” hahahahaha

I actually loved this reveal so much. I thought it was so clever and interesting to subvert the typical stereotyping this way. Up till this point I did find Gill a rather uncomfortable cliche. This made him so much funnier and more interesting.

Niles isn’t gay! He’s in love with Daphne and never hints at being attracted to men. Nor does Martin. And Bulldog is an absolute lady-killer; definitely not gay! Part of the humor of Niles’ character comes from the fact that he and Frasier behave in the way that gay people are stereotypically portrayed, when in fact they both are straight. As for Gil, well, he did sneakily enter a gay bar in the credits scene of one of the last season’s episodes, so I think the implication is he isn’t only attracted to women, even though he does have a wife.
