Hello and welcome to another trip report!
Today we will be travelling aboard a Trenitalia Frecciargento ETR600 trainset from Rome to Florence, Roma Termini to Firenze Santa Maria Novella which is scheduled to take 1 hour & 36 minutes.
The ETR600 is a Pendolino 'tilting trainset' which allows Highspeed services to travel faster on lines which would normally have restricted top speeds due to the curves and allows for a much better passenger experience.
Date of Filming - 4/8/20
Camera - GoPro Hero 7 Black
Operator: Trenitalia Frecciargento
Departure: Rome / Roma Termini, Italy
Arrival: Florence / Firenze Santa Maria Novella, Italy
Cost: €27.00
Check out my review of the Swiss SBB ETR610 version of this train between Milan & Zurich here:

They are good, but could do with better legroom and less rattles 😂

Aesthetically this is my favourite trainset, the front remembers my car (Fiat Grande Punto)... indeed the designer is the same, Italdesign Giugiaro. Excellent job in my opinion!

Just my two cents: the rattling is probably rather caused by the line than by the train. I recently travelled on the same line on Freccia 1000 and it was rattling too. Florence - Rome is the oldest high speed line in Italy (and one of the oldest in Europe, I guess it was opened in 1977 between Chiusi and Rome) and it's also shared with non high speed trains. And I read somewhere that the 3000V system doesn't allow increasing of the speed beyond 250 (not sure whether it's true but anyway).
@NonstopEurotrip
@NonstopEurotrip 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're probably right! These trains do seem to rattle slightly more than others though, I've noticed it with the SBB version too 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@NonstopEurotripsorry for the HUGE delay in this explanation. My brother is a driver on these train sets. He explained me that, due to the tilting mechanism occupying a lot of space on the bogies, the suspensions are smaller and, generally speaking, a little more harder compared to the rest of the ones mounted on the others high speed train sets that we have in Italy

Excellent review. I travel extensively by train in Italy and like other commentators, I find the ride on the Frecciargento trains very uncomfortable at high speeds. Unfortunately this is unavoidable on tilting trains with active suspension systems. Also I find the second class seats very narrow and uncomfortable, so I always prefer to travel on a Frecciarossa (ETR 500) or Italo train if possible.

Thank you for your trip report, Nonstop eurotrip !!! We travel and we love it. However, excuse me for making you a small remark, but this is only my opinion, indeed I find that the subtitles that you put in blue are painful to read. I took one of these from Florence to Bologna via high speed rail. My sit was by the window next to the opposite track. When we met a Frecciarossa in a tunnel at the total speed of 550 kph (250 Frecciargento + 300 Frecciarossa) my eardrums were about to blow up. I admit that my ears are very sensitive to quick pressure changes but i don't have the same problem on other trains. Not to mantion an annoying noise coming from the bogie. The old good etr 485 is way more silent and better isolated from external air preassure.
@NonstopEurotrip
@NonstopEurotrip 3 жыл бұрын
Oh I don't know the 485s are not a great ride either and the pressure change was probably compounded by the tunnel and passing the Frecciarossa. Thanks for the comment 😁🇮🇹

A nice video. Although etr600 looks great, it's suspension is in my view below par. It shakes a lot at high speed... Not really providing one with a smooth ride. The design is however very nice.

The Pendolino that exists in Poland (ETR600) is Italian like the Pendolino that in Italy is called: "Frecciargento". The Frecciargento is the cheapest high-speed train, and does not exceed 250 km per hour. The Frecciarossa 1000, can reach the speed of 400 km per hour, and as a comfort it is the best in Europe, Italo Train, new Frecciargento (ETR700), and Frecciabianca (ETR 460) speed max 200 km per hour.

@@Maloenton-Agency superb! are u happy now? u have to know that Poland is still a developing country. Polish national rail company opened a tender for a new high speed trains. @@anthonycubadugosz109 look you're wrong ... i love poland. I just said that the Italian and the Polish pendolino are the same thing. the fact that in Italy there is also the frecciarossa and italo, it was to say that the best trains, in Italy are these ... poland is not a developing country ... it is like all other countries in Europe . peace & love!

Ah theese trains are so uncomfortable when they reach higher speeds, but they are very much reliable and they do well what they were bought to. Italian train drivers call them “ducks” because of the long nose. Even chinese railways owns them,check them out.
