Fred seemed super clear and relatable. He didn’t berate religion or even the bands music. Just that Stapp really wants to act holier than thou - and that is not a Christian teaching. Fred gets it.

To be fair to Fred, he put on a persona for the world to see. He should have displayed a more respectable one, but there are other interviews where he really does appear to be reasonable and laid back. He was also younger back then, and in his prime so it is also understandable why he shows a bit of an ego. Most of the hate for Limp Bizkit and Fred Durst are parts of an edgy trend.

Scott Stapp was not only the nicest most polite thankful celebrity I’ve ever met, but just pure genuine good person. He wouldn’t hurt a fly. Hate the bad rep he gets. Maybe he used to be a jerk but he sure as heck is a great guy in 2022

my friends met him in the early 2000s, in florida where stapp and I am from. from their account, he was not a nice person. they were all like 10 years younger than him, but he just kept tagging along, asking them if they could find any coke, badgering them about it and not in a nice way, all he wanted to do was get effed up. it ended up being pretty sad and pathetic, and it was very bizarre that here is this rock star who is world famous, and he's begging these younger people that don't want him around to get him coke. I guess that was around the time that creed started to go downhill and Scott really needed help. I'm not sure whatever happened to him, except that he recently made a video begging fans for money because he's homeless. it's a shame.

It's amazing to me the public perception of Scott Stapp when Creed's first CD came out. Christian Rock, Jesus freaks, religious fanatic. I get the many references to God and religion in the lyrics but that was how Scott was raised. His father, a Baptist minister was a major influence on him as a child and that stayed with him. I'm not sure about Mark Tremonti or the rest of the band as far as their religious beliefs but they signed off on the lyrics and cashed in on the sales. My point here is that the music industry has had it's share of rock stars with questionable morals, suggestive lyrics about Satanism, wife beaters, drug users, convicted of many crimes. i.e. Vince Neil. Show up drunk at award ceremonies i.e. Scott Weiland, Slash. Huge egos like Axl Rose. And yet Scott Stapp is constantly ridiculed for having a belief that may have gotten out of hand for a short period of time. Honestly as far as rock stars lives go, his has been rather tame.

That's bad but bipolar disorder doesn't make you an arrogant ass or act holier than thou. It may explain certain behaviors, but that's it. That's the problem with health. For years everyone thought I was an asshole, but when you have mental health problems (or in my case chronic physical pain) it's difficult to be at 100% and cheerful and "a good person". People like Durst walk around in perfect health judging everyone but the guy doesn't know what Stapp was going through, just as people don't know the pain I went through for years. Easy to talk shit when you're feeling great all day every day bro. Turns out Scott got hook on opioids (like many U.S. artists due to a corrupt FDA and medical system) then moved to more harmful substances. Opioids are literally heroin derivatives and the biggest gateway drug in existence. He was also suffering bipolar disorder and other stuff, but an ignorant Fred Durst standing there running his mouth. Kind of a hypocrite too...talking shit about someone else he's kind of saying "do as I say not as I do".

It's funny too because their music sucked. I played with a band once that had played with KoRn and the singer made sure everyone knew his band played with KoRn. Eventually I found out, they only played with KoRn because they won it from a UK rock magazine. The singer had a massive ego and thought he was better than everyone else and wouldn't talk to people from the smaller bands. Afterwards, I went to see Selputura and the band that had played with KoRn were supporting them and after the show he was talking to one of my friends and he was upset because Max Cavalera wouldn't talk to him lmao

I have nothing against Fred Durst, but to be honest he would not have gone so far had it not been due to Limp Bizkit's extremely talented instrumentalists - his lyrics and douchey image were always the weak link of the group IMO (although ironically it was also what made them popular). Wes Borland, John Otto, Sam Rivers and DJ Lethal really formed a very, very tight unit that could produce catchy and memorable rhythms and riffs.

Gotta love Fred! I was at the 2000 KROQ Weenie roast. Creed was surprisingly good. I remember seeing Fred cruising around in the audience. Stapp has issues. Saw Limp Bizkit at 1999/2000 weenie roasts and they blew me away. I had never heard of Bizkit and they put on an amazing performance. Say what you will about Fred but he will give you your money's worth and then some. I became an instant fan when I saw them the first time.

So many people don’t realize that Fred Durst created a character for the band that he played on stage and in the music. He wants you to think he’s this wild shit talking dude but in reality he’s super down to earth and actually really intelligent.

Creed had some very deep songs. I get why Fred would say that. Because Scott finally achieved his dream, and he wanted to take advantage of everything, because he had almost nothing. But It was really cringey the way scott acted, like he was gods messenger or whatever. Limp Bizkit and creed had a lot of unnecessary hate, same thing with Nickelback. I feel while they weren't perfect, they weren't evil. All those bands treated their fans with love for the most part. Also, they were so young, like to have all those women, drugs, and the energy. Very few rock bands ever last as long as these guys have, even though Scott Stapp isn't in Creed aka alter bridge, the fact these guys kept going, and found their peace is very rare. Some groups fizzle out after their first album. So things have changed drastically over the years.

I get were Durst is coming from but Stapp also had some problems in his life mentally, not entirly his fault. Durst is no saint either but he makes a good point. He's just looking out for the little guys. (Edit) According to MTV Durst lied about the whole situation. He was actually the one causing problems and accused Creed because it was any easy "Get out of Jail Free Card". F Durst.

Fred clearly cited Creed's management as being the issue, not Stapp himself, and then admitted that he and Stapp never even exchanged words. Fred's callout seems like jealousy at this point. Claiming someone walks around thinking they are this or that is mere speculation and is subjective.

Both frontmen were jerks and both of them hurt their respective bands' credibility. Gotta admit Fred was ultimately right, though, because it is true that Stapp's fame eventually faded and that he ended up with practically nothing and part of that is due to his egoistical personality.
