I worked on a film Fred was in where he was amiable with the entire crew but what I'll never forget was after I got chewed out in front of the entire crew one day, he went out of his way the next day to ask how I was feeling after the public berating. I was the lowest man on the totem pole in that production but he took the time to inquire. Mr. Gwynne was a class act.

As a kid growing up in the '70s and early '80s, watching the syndicated 'Munsters' obviously endeared him to me as Herman. But I will say, his role as Jud Crandall really made me appreciate his acting as a 20 year old seeing the film version of the Stephen King novel, 'Pet Sematary'. The way he said that famous line, "Sometimes dead is better" still has me quoting it with how I recall his accented voice from the film.

7:50 I was, indeed surprised to learn about his "privileged" upbringing. Learning this info doesn't alter my appreciation of his talent. As a child growing up in the 1960's, I remember very well sharing many laugh's w/my sister watching The Munster's! However I simply loved him in My Cousin Vinnie!! I'm saddened to learn about his suffering from depression & his feelings over being typecast into certain kinds of rolls. Now, as an adult looking back, I think he was perfectly justified to feel the way he did. Knowing this shine's a light on his gifted acting skills. Although being uncomfortable, he persevered & gave 1 outstanding performance after another! Thank you for shining a light on a very beloved actor! ❤

I really enjoyed everthing I saw him in. I first remember seeing him (and Al Lewis grandpa) as kid in Car 54. I do admit to really loving him as Herman Munster. The show acting, the chemisrty and the writing were fantasic. When they did remakes it just was not the same. Nobody did it better. I still watch today. Munster Go Home I watch several times a year and its a tradition on Halloween. The Munster also had some good lesson such as how to treat people and how to be a good parent. Not to mention its FUNNY. It is a shame he was typecasted he was verry talanted. I did love him in My Cousin Vinny. It was fun seeing him in a different role. But I will never forget Herman Munster. He always brought and brings a smile to my face.

Being born in 1957, I loved the Munsters. The later remakes proved that it takes a LOT more than just makeup to create a great and memorable character. I already know all about Fred, more than most people. This presentation is well done and respectful. The Munsters was not canciled due to lack of ratings! The network did not want to spend the extra money to make the show in color....so they just canciled it. Sheesh. I loved the movie as a 12 year old, but I thought it was crazy not to include Pat Priest in the film.

I thought his role in "The Cotton Club " was excellent. It showed another side of his talents that was overlooked too much.

I know the guy on the left portrayed Herman Munster. Is that his son Eddie on the right?

I read how talented Mr Gwynn was way back in the day. However, I always loved him as Herman Munster. He was unbelievably funny in that role. They all were The goulish yet all American family that you would loved to meet and hang out with 👍 *.Dont forget Pet Semetary and Fatal Attraction

Surprisingly, altho Al Lewis was cast as "Grandpa Sam", born 1367 AD, he was only 3 years older than Gwynne having been born in 1923 to Gwynne's 1926 birth year. I like a lot of people thought him 95 years old at death in 2006, but it was erroneous reporting on the part of the "Newspaper of Record", the New York Times. Something else. Even though Grandpa was made up to look like this cute little old senior citizen, in real life he was quite different. I saw him at length through a friend acquainted with him personally, who introduced us. I was shocked to see how tall he actually was. He had a powerful looking barrel chest like some eastern European acrobat or something. His massive shoulders and upper back seemed intimidating. He only looked diminutive on screen because he was cast next to an actor of Fred Gwynne's size. Michael Gwynne is Fred's brother and they look nothing alike. He is an actor who can be seen in KZbin's The Terminal Man movie of Michael "Jurassic Park" Crichton's 1974 novel about an Elon Musk type brain chip and what it does to one man's life. Michael Gwynne plays an unfeeling doctor.

You are a great KZbin channel, but how can you misspell his last name? It is spelled Gwynne. Just 1 'e'!!! Just 1!!!
