@morallyconflictedtortoise6494
@morallyconflictedtortoise6494 Жыл бұрын
@@Commielover69 I think the problem is kinda the opposite, they're not political enough. It trivialises fascism, communism, and other extremism into cool aesthetics and different gameplay options for countries without ever really exploring the consequences of what's happening inside those countries. HOI4 is the worst political education you could get, and there's a scary amount of 15 year olds who think that everything they see in HOI4 (mods especially) is applicable to real life. I'd imagine most of them would grow out of being a 'based strasserite national socialist monarchy restorationist' but some will get into the IRL far-right (who are more than aware of Paradox communities as a recruitment tool) and that's a problem.

It's about the USA, so yes our oddities are weird to the rest of the world, just like any country. and yes there is a left right element to our ideas of food and even exercise, with the left being more tied to aerobics and the right more into strength training. Is that not the same elsewhere? Here in Canada there's a small but clear trend that left-voting people tend to be more intentional with self-care and personal health in general. The big factor driving that being that left-leaning tend to be more educated and more financially successful so they can afford the 'acai' and 'kale' over White bread and potatoes. Like its a very apparent trend in my country and I suspect it would be for pretty much all developed economies.

It's bad, but I don't think it's that bad. Whatifalthist's video reads to me like a clumsy pretense for a loser stroking himself in essay format. Like, half his arguments keep getting back to his weird-ass grievances with how young men aren't laying pipe enough, and how you shouldn't mess with right wingers. Take that in conjunction with the fact that he is ironically what he describes leftists to be: out of touch with the nature warfare. He describes it like it's goddamn Fire Emblem or something and not a serious, complex set of affairs due to political circumstances far beyond "women won't fuck me." It feels like he's just trying to convince himself that he'd totally be a badass if/when the need arises, in part because he's a member of the in-group that wins (alienated, young men, right wingers, etc.) It's an idle fantasy that is hilariously uninformed on what a war looks like. TL;DR Homeboy ain't really about it. Maybe encourage him to touch grass and view women as more than a personal conquest, and he might be a bit more normal.

The line “the nation is more polarized than ever” falls apart even if you exclude the Civil War because in the build up to the civil war (the era these people want to claim we’re in) a congressman was beaten half to death by another congressman on the house floor. Armed militias were engaging in Guerilla warfare in Kansas. Military administrators from southern states were clandestinely rerouting military supplies to southern forts. Like we are nowhere close to the level of polarization that the US was at in the prelude to the civil war. If you want a more apt comparison I think it’s fair to say the country is more polarized than it’s been since the Vietnam War which is still significant without being an ahistorical exaggeration

Realistically, if the united states went into a civil war, it wouldn't be this right vs left, red vs blue, rural vs industrial bullshit. We would (potentially) balkanize into hundreds of factions, because there are so many different groups of people looking out for themselves from different geographical regions, with different problems and solutions. Solutions in Louisiana probably won't show up in Washington state because they simply have different problems going on. Geography determines history, and people seem to forget just how massive and diverse the geography of the United States is. We have deserts, mountains, Mediterranean forests, coniferous forests, deciduous forests, great plains, great lakes, fuckin hundreds of rivers, swamps, rolling hills, and the list goes on and on. Everyone who lives in these areas leave different lifestyles. Not to mention the large metropolitan cities and small rural towns. If I'm incorrect, feel completely free to correct me. I want to learn.

I partially agree. here's a comment I made about it before I saw yours. As someone from a military family, the right-left argument isn't a good one for how US Federal troops will side in a civil war. One of the effects of the intense military propaganda is that many servicemembers do believe that their service is for the citizens of America. if one faction is seen as being anti-Constitution or oppressive to the citizenry, large portions of the US military will not side with that faction, regardless of other political or religious ideologies. State militaries (national guard) are much more likely to be ideologically aligned with the state government for various reasons including more members being part time locals. If faced with federal troops though, the NG would almost certainly immediately surrender when faced with the superiorly equipped units who helped train them. A piece of evidence that I believe supports this idea of a hidden fault line in the federal military is two statements made by the Pentagon during the height of the 2020 protests. The first was that they would not send troops to support state police and NG and that their commitment is to defending the Constitution and American citizens, the second was ordering police and Guardsmen to wear identifying unit patches so they would not be mistaken for federal troops. Both of these things are normal positions for the federal military so the significance is that this was stated again publicly. I read it as supporting the protestors more than the cops even if slightly. There is a possibility that a second US civil war has one of the strangest timelines, where factions fight each other up until the federal troops show up at which point both sides just stop fighting.

"Realistically", any civil war would be entirely rooted in the particular economic, social and cultural conditions of its time. That said, the idea that the USA would shatter like glass is nonsense. All polities survive by cultivating loyalty in their members. The polity exists because enough people with power want it to continue existing. For as polarized and hostile as US political discourse has become, there are still a whole lot of people who see themselves as "Americans". And those people would rather the USA continued existing as a united polity. Thus, in any outbreak of civil war, you're far more likely to see large blocs of Americans clinging together, out of a desire to maintain the status quo. That's what happened with the Romans. Being considered "Roman" was a civic matter, not an ethnic one. A person was a Roman because the Roman state said they were a Roman citizen. The same way one is an American because the federal government of the USA says they're an American citizen. And the Roman Republic and Empire suffered *multiple* civil wars, that would have brought any other empire to its knees. But the Roman state did well to maintain a citizenry who wore their civic status with pride. A citizenry *that really wanted the empire to keep existing.* That's how the Roman state survived so much turmoil: there were always enough people who wanted it to survive. Right to the bitter end, and even afterwards - that's partly why so many of the post-Roman states in Europe claimed to be Roman successors. It helped the leftover Roman citizenry accept their new overlords. Because that's how states die - when they run out people who want the state to exist. In every state, there are always people who want out. And they will wait, patiently or otherwise, for any sign of weakness. When the state finally falters, they will rise and fight for their freedom. Which will weaken the state even further, and may prompt more rebellions. Maintaining a loyal citizenry is the highest priority of any state. And for all its many, many faults, I believe the USA has done an *incredibly good* job of building a loyal citizenry. If America ever collapses, I firmly believe the Americans will go down biting, kicking and screaming, just like the Romans before them.

Whatifalthist strikes me as that guy who was the smartest kid in his high school history class and spent much of his youth playing strategy games, but never really grew out of his pseudointellectual phase because he hasn't spent much time in the real world, and holds onto a very surface level understanding of politics and the world at large because he's never actually been challenged and forced to think critically about his biases. His politics are akin to a lot of the "classical liberals" you've seen popping up in the online right in recent years, which is really just boomer conservatism rebranded for zoomers, in that it seeks to maintain things at an arbitrary point in time while it lags only a decade or two behind progressivism, and views even incremental social progress as a sign of the end times. I remember he had a debate with Vaush wherein he claimed that civil rights and the abolition of slavery were natural byproducts of (Christian) liberalism, but things like wokness and "trans ideology" were not. I think the biggest handicap for mainstream conservatives in the west is their habit of conspiratorial thinking, where everything they like about society is proof of their ideological superiority, and everything else is the work of shadowy infiltrators (usually in academia, where conservatives usually can't hack it).

Any potential for larger resistance was suppressed from the get-go by nipping the bud, aka. purging the SA leadership or imprisoning the left-wing radicals. The amount of Germans in prison in the 1930's was measured in just tens of thousands, of which most were "rehabilitated" by the time Hitler invaded Poland. Stalin on the other hand purged millions and put a million in gulags, for the sole virtue of being suspected for undermining the communist rule. This, of course, does not account for Holocaust or the genocide of minorities, but they were considered to be the "others" and not part of the German majority. I hate the argument that in a potential civil war the Republicans would win simply because of sheer landmass, a potential civil war would likely end up somewhere close to being like the first war where the South would fight against larger more well equipped forces because most, get this, the US coastline is home to some of the most populated cities with larger ports and industrial sectors while the more republican areas are home to large fields suited for cattle and agriculture. Always remember that when an american talks about "the left" what they mean is "everything left of the extreme far right". The vast majority of people in this country see the modern democratic party as a left wing party, and they advertise themselves as such too- purely because they are left of the modern republican party (which moves further to the right every year). Whenever people want to talk about the _actual_ left they tend to use the word "progressive" or talk about "progressivism" (which exists as a small faction within the democratic party because they have literally nowhere else to go). The words "liberal" and "conservative" have different meanings here as well; specifically, "liberal" means "democrat" and "conservative" means "republican". Here when people want to talk about real liberals they will say "libertarian" (which you will mostly find within the republican party). Be sure to translate these words before attempting to understand wtf an american is talking about, because most of us are using them completely wrong.

From what I recall both parties in the USA is center right, however the republic party trying to keep itself relevant and in power started pushing populist figures to the front to try and attract more and more to keep the moderates in check as they would still wound up voting republican rather than democrat. These populist figures however tended to embrace right and far right ideas thus alienating the republican moderates, hence the talk of the republican party maybe dying/splitting in 2 as the 2 groups inside the republican party are at eachother's throats over the state of the party - all I recall from a professor talking about the American political parties.

Also weird thing he glosses over when it comes to why the Left in America tends to lean towards college educated, maybe it's because you meet more people. For many Americans college is the first time that they meet people with differing backgrounds, political views and life experiences than they do, and when they do so they start to make comparisons. It's a lot easier to ignore systemic problems if they don't effect you or anyone you know, but once you get to college you will start to meet people who have been impacted by these systemic issues, and that can cause a worldview shift. like seriously it's really easy to ignore systemic racism when nobody you know has experienced it, but when you go to college and your new roommate is, for example, a black guy who has faced difficulties throughout his life in a way his white peers never has due to racial profiling, well now it's harder to deny.

I'm somewhat surprised and glad that at no point did Whatifalthist not bother pointing out that Mexico a country that's next to America spent it's first century as an independent nation meandering from one disastrous civil war into another before climaxing at the Mexican Revolution of 1910. It had many splintering factions, a genuine split between the urbanites and rurals, a military that for the most part supported the junta during the preamble, and you know how conservative Mexico is along with it's low gun ownership among the civilians. Basically Whatifalthists wet dream. The Junta and conservatives were practically the first factions that both were circle beaten to oblivion before the revolutionary war entered the next phase as the Leftists from the city(Corranzas government) and the Rural peasant revolutionaries couldn't reconcile their differences and dragged the war out for another half a decade. Culminating in a sort of compromise government of leftism and some old guard conservative(PRI). That held power until the mid 1990's. Certainly not the dream scenario of rural conservatives beating down the soyboy city folk because it never worked like that. America got luck that their civil war was relatively organized and the Federal government remained cohesive throughout the war, they shouldn't count on that being the case if a round 2 happens.

None of them would ever think like that. Out of the dozens of guys I’d say I know pretty well that I grew up with, maybe like 5% of the guys seem like they could end up being capable of that. Conservative people aren’t monsters, they’ve just grown up with super entrenched beliefs that giving the government any more power is evil and usually that left wing policies are unrealistic, even though they’re often morally correct. Of course there’s issues like abortion where they would support taking away women’s rights, but it comes from a genuine belief that millions of children are being murdered every year. I think they’re often being manipulated by lobbyists or news networks, but they are almost always genuinely good people. This dude is a disconnected hyper-online pseudoscientist with a gross outlook on humanity that he portrays onto a lot of other people.

I think this comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of the original theory that said womenless men cause political violence. They aren't consciously going "Me horny, you horny, we together go take women for us." The original theory is more like "Disaffected young men without prospects for economic and familial fulfillment project their dissatisfaction onto political and economic arrangements, and become either violent criminals or militants who have no desire to keep the system running and rather typically desire to tear it down." I think this theory actually holds a lot of water. Look at who terrorist groups recruit for suicide bombings. A suicide bomber isn't doing it to get women (except maybe 72 virgins in heaven if you believe the meme), he's doing it because he hates something that wronged him or his family so much he'll give up his life just to help destroy it. So maybe your brothers would never join a roving band of rapists, but they might join a militant group that seeks to overthrow the government and society they see as unjust and corrupt.

because right wing people actually can’t grasp the concept that their views are extreme, and stupid, and that most people in the country actually aren’t on the same page as them. they don’t know that just because someone isn’t a communist doesn’t mean they’d be down for a fascist takeover. and when it comes down to an actual fascist entity attempting or taking power, it’s almost universally hated and galvanizes people to fight against it quite quickly.

But I reckon it should be included because the circumstances of the war The King Phillip's War or Chief Metacomet's War is a war between Colonial New Englanders and Chief Metacomet of the Wampanoag tribe Named King Phillip's War because of Chief Metacomet adopted name was Philip. And his nation was a very close ally to the New England Colonists at the time and the Wampanoags lived and worked together with New Englanders on their Colonies... Until they don't... The usual Natives - Settlers/Colonist Relation shenanigans. The war was considered to be the largest war ever waged in the History of Colonial America, and oversaw the largest Army Mustering ever done in New England's History. If America did go into another civil war it wouldn’t be a simple two side affair like original civil war with states outright succeeding but it would be more like the Russian, Spanish, or Chinese civil war due to the large size of the US a collapse in central order would cause anarchy and something more akin to a warlord period with several factions fighting for control all over the country. The American first American civil war was caused by social and economic factors (slavery and its implications) that made the geographic divisions much more defined than they would be now and makes it not a good reference.

Just anecdotally, there is a really strong left and right wing subculture of "Cascadia" in the PNW, especially in more spicey corners here. For the right, it has origins in the "Northwest Wonderland for the White Race" and for the left it has origins in IWW type left wing labor organizing, and later anti racist movements. Seattle and Eugene have power bases in technology and manufacturing. Highely educated white liberals have strong power bases and economic power in the cities, who also have intense and mutual resentment with disaffected far left individuals. There is a subclass of white conservatives who are intensely religious, either tied to the Mormon or Seventh Day Adventist Church, who still have intense anxieties over Catholics, a sizable conservative minority group in urban areas in Seattle, Tri cities, Salem and Tacoma. Indiginous Nations like the Muckleshoot, Puyallup, Cowlitz, and Nez Perce have made it their political business to steadily purchase back stolen land and have created what is essentially UBI for members via the success of casinos. (There may be more Oregon nations here, but I haven't heard of any that have the same creeping cultural and economic power of the Salish Sea nations that have emulated the Seminole model of survival) Korean, Black and Philippino communities are especially dense and organized in Seattle, Tacoma and North Portland. These groups have been historically antagonized by white liberals via gentrification and outright violence by white protestants. Lastly, there are left and right wing forces named here who advocate for the concept of Cascadia and those who would absolutely be loyalist to broader American politics. There are isolationists, secessionists, and globalists in all of these groups. There are dense and complicated webs of political power here, and nobody could tell you how it would shake out. That's just Oregon and Washington too. Every place is just as complicated.

I’m from the United States and I also have a degree in history, only a Bachelor’s degree but still a degree nonetheless, and these pseudo history channels that make “alt history” content delegitimize our field. When someone says that the first thing they think about incels is that they’d make good “foot soldiers in my war band” then you can tell that this person is a genuine lunatic. That was around 21:20 if you want to hear the lunacy. From this video, what I can clearly say is that WhatIfAltHist does not have an understanding of conservative American values, liberal American values, nor an understanding of left-wing politics. He doesn’t actually understand what these groups want nor how they operate within American or global politics. It’s like his understanding of politics is from Victoria 2. He is also woefully ignorant of German and Japanese persecution of their own citizens for either being ethnic or religious minorities or political minorities. Japanese communists for example were infamously arrested, their party was banned, and were forced to convert to more nationalistic politics or rot in jail (Peace Preservation Law). And this was in the twilight years of the Taisho era, the most tolerant era of pre-war Japanese politics. Around 31:26 I was in intensive pain listening to him speak on what Germany and Japan supposedly didn’t do to their compatriots. How ignorant can someone be? I’ve never watched your content prior to this, but we are in agreement: this guy wrote an incel manifesto and masked it as an “alt-history” video. He not only used history in a completely ignorant fashion, but I’d go as far as saying that his application of political science was profoundly flawed and dangerous. Does he seriously think that billionaires are going to support those who seek to regulate or even redistribute their capital? Billionaires serve their own interests through corporate lobbying and playing the system in this country, and in this hypothetical scenario in the original video, they’d likely fight on their own side to secure their own interests: money and capital. He used wojaks in his video unironically too. The only thing which WIAH even said which I could remotely agree with, granted I was skipping through this video because hearing his points (not yours) was degrading, was that the Marxist view of history was influenced by the idea of survival, and this is something which I’ve seen reflected in Marxist historiography and is self-evident in communist-influenced ideologies like Maoism or Juche; those ideologies and their importance of self-reliance do reflect the Marxism and the theme of survival. Normally I’d cite sources but I’m typing on a phone and I’m bedridden so I do apologize, though I don’t think I’m saying anything ground breaking enough to where I’d need to cite anyways. Speaking of citations though, and history/historiography in general, I seriously wonder if this guy studied it in any academic setting beyond secondary school. Maybe? But if so, I don’t understand how he could study history in a college setting and still come to the conclusions that he comes to in complete absence of critical thought. It’s just silly to me that there’s someone out here like this who is spitting on our degrees and the reputation of historians from my country. Anyways, if you ever read this comment OP, I enjoyed what you had to say. I enjoyed your video, but if I made the video, I would’ve taken a more source-based argumentative approach to disproving WIAH’s claims. Yes, you had sources listed in your description and no, you are not wrong nor am I disagreeing with your conclusions, but I would’ve used more sources and especially secondary sources from academic journals, specifically because of the claims which WIAH made about American academia pushing certain narratives. Your video was more like it was laughing at a lolcow than anything, even though you did excellently argue your points. I just would’ve made a different style of video. Regardless, thanks for publishing this video, and I hope you read my thoughts. Not all Americans are like WhatIfAltHist.

To answer one of your questions, I believe WIAH has stated that he dropped put of college, that “academia is corrupted” (by the liberal elite, or course), and I believe (but can’t remember exactly, so take this with a grain of salt) that he has said something along the lines of not reading modern literature and preferring things from decades ago because, again, academia is corrupt and modern works are an extension of that.

If I remember correctly the jews weren’t so much forced into banking as them seeing an oppertunity. The problem is that banks have a lot of money. When a king wants to go to war he needs a lot of money. So he “lends” some from the bank. Now he has a debt. But the king decides: what if… he doesn’t. So he kicks out the jews to whom he owes a debt. This gets even more fucky when the bankers weren’t allowed to refuse lending money to the crown. So banks were a quick but risky way to get rich exclusively available to those willing to sin or those of other religions. And it was really convenient for any kings

This is such a surface level understanding of sociological, political, and historical concepts it's almost comical lol. Also if a civil war did break out in the US, extremely unlikely in my opinion for a multitude of reasons but i'll humor the idea, it wouldn't be "red vs. blue", there would be dozens if not hundreds of different factions. Just look at the Libyan or Syrian Civil wars. A much more likely doomsday scenario for the US than a second civil war in my opinion would be the establishment of an authoritarian dictatorship propped by the military, centrists politicians and capitalistic powers that be in the name of "stability", a la Germany in the 1930s or Russia in the 1990s.

The right has military generals but the young soldiers that will decide the victor can swing a lot, our generation (gen z and y) are soft and may land in the hands of the left for their ideas on equality if they ease up on their decentors.

It’s laughable pathetic. As a woman I can’t help but be livid more. Maybe it’s because I saw his video first with no opposers and only people echoing in the comments. Trust me, it was pretty disturbing

With all his talk about sexually frustrated men being so dangerous I wonder if he knows that there is a method to release that frustration without a partner. 😂
@pavelandreev4727
@pavelandreev4727 Жыл бұрын
I don't think he even understands where the frustration comes from. It's a pressure from the patriarchal system that tells them that they should get mates or else they're not worth it. The sweet release of ... you know, wouldn't help in their situation, I think. Works for me, I've been alone for 6 years now and not really looking for a partner, therefor no frustration but mas... oops, sorry 😂😂😂

@@2FadeMusic Well, I think so, yes, although I don't think it's a conscious process. (and I wouldn't make assumptions for you or anyone, why would you assume that I would lol). Left or right there are a lot of people that spew insults for no particular reason than to just shout at each other. I've never found that particularly constructive, if at all. But that's the internet for you, shouting seems to be the most common way of communication (if you can call it that).

This is part of the problem, the frustration is not having family or social connections, sexual frustration is volatile but ultimately a lot less dangerous as it doesn't care about political or social change. There have been historically polygamous societies, social strife and violent destabilization by unmarried men was a considerable problem, many of the civil wars in China were fought by this segment of the population, these are some of the bloodiest wars in history.

Scary how much the fake culture war can warp people's perspectives so much. The guy mistakenly blends his subjective cultural ideas into real politics and history. The point about his quasi materialism is great by the way - and very telling. You often hear those on the "political right" in the US (whatever that actually means) talk about the world in terms of materialism but then fail to make the marxist next step and end up believing that our material existence is a result of strange ethnic, cultural, national or gender based phenomena. To then smear their opponents on "the left" as proponents of "identity politics". Honey, modern capitalism is by design atomising the market and turning everything into a consumer product, including "culture" and politics, making us tribal against each other without realising the actual barrier to our material advancement is the system itself.

I see so many in my friends and family who frame leftism as "Identity politics". LGBTQ or black lives matter liberal tailists. Orgs that want "reform" and "social democracy", anarchists and "maoists" that refuse to work together and support imperialism and are imperialism compatible, just like the internationale in WW1 before supporting their own nations imperialist wars and the zimmerwalld anti war split. I am grateful for those few orgs that still support whatever and whoever stands up to US and European hegemony

The fact he put "consent is very important" on leftist's way of life and not on right-winger's way of life should tell you all you need to know. Also his art section is absolute lunacy. He is talking about political art in leftists, and non-political art in right wingers, to purposefully make leftists look more extreme.

Furthermore, the "consent is very important" issue is about consent as it has evolved in modern discourse smh So yes, for conservatives the consent issue is not an issue in the first place because the consent is tacitly secured long before through relationship building before they even get to the point where this "consent" issue even arises.

It's so painful to see how close he was to actually identifying the real issues, over and over again. A lot of men these days are lonely, sexually frustrated, and lacking purpose in life? It couldn't be because they were groomed by our patriarchal culture into having toxic and unrealistic expectations about life and taught almost nothing about how to deal with their feelings and frustrations in healthy ways... it's women's fault for not wanting to be their submissive, sexually available trad wives anymore.
